How was the line not a priority? No team has invested more into the O-line than the Giants. The problem is that they suck at drafting O-linemen outside of Thomas.
Since Daniel Jones was drafted (2019), here's how they prioritized OL:
- drafted Andrew Thomas fourth, Matt Peart 99th and Shane Lemieux 150th
- drafted Evan Neal seventh and Josh Ezeudu 67th
- drafted Jon Michael Schmitz 57th
Of those names mentioned, one is a stud, the rest are huge question marks. They prioritized the offensive line, just simply whiffed.

And 2022 DJ was far better than Saquon did Saquon have 22 total TDs and 4,000 total yards? I loved having Saquon on the team, but reality is he had 1 great season for us (rookie season), 2 really good ones, 1 bad one, and missed a whole season from injury. He’s not the same back he was elite, now he’s a slightly above average back.

Giants front office don’t want to admit they made a mistake on the Daniel Jones contract. If they did someone getting fired at the end of the day.
Ownership publicly endorsed DJ and multiple reports said they pushed for the front office to pay him. Its a losing battle for them either way.
He’s paid for 2 years … can’t get out after this. He also has identical stats to Trevor Lawrence through 50 games. Trevor Lawrence is making 55 million a year not to mention Joe Shane was just making a point that it would be tough for anyone to succeed behind an offensive line that’s not very goodcould be a quarterback and our case also running back. Saquon was hurt a lot and struggled to perform behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. He’s a good dude and I hope he has success against us not against us.

Tyrod won 2 games all season - Danny Dimes won 10 and beat a 13 win playoff team in a playoff game the year before when the roster was even worse. Devito barely beat a couple scrub teams when the defense was averaging 5 takeaways a game.

Saquon was NEVER the issue. NYG drafted Jones as the 6th overall pick and paid him 40 mil for nothing. NYG had OBJ, Collins & Saquon at one point and lost them all.

saquan was the reason the offense opened up in the first place because the defense had to play up front with him in the backfield. Giants chose danny pennies over a top 5 rb. They didnt build the oline, over 6 years they had with him. They clutched on to danny because he was affiliated with eli's camp

The media never provides real context in these debates. At the time DJ was given that contract there were no other QB options that were viable for the Giants and he had just won a playoff game. Its clear that the Giants wanted to keep them both and the decision to extend DJ made more sense in the long run. If the Giants would have franchised DJ and signed S.B, that would have been more of a cap hit which would have not allowed them to BUILD THE TEAM in 2023.Then if you factor in the cap increase coming, D.J's contract is going to look even better.Yes, S.B was the best player on the team but this team averaged 5 -6 wins since he had been with the NYGs. Look at these other teams with like 3-4 offensive pro bowler players. Those teams arent only winning solely because of their respective QBs. Pat Mahommes isnt great simply because of his talent. He also has had consistentcy throughout his career. S.B was our only talent and to pay him for the same production that you can get out of a younger player would've been foolish.

Hard Knocks is the best thing for solving ingrained dysfunction. There's no hiding, sweeping problems under the rug. Anyone, including the Giants can see change has to come. Personally it might be a bit embarrassing, but for the organisation it'll speed their recovery.

I don’t get why GMs aren’t evolving with Free Agency. Build both trenches, get good skill players on both sides and every free agent QB will already be looking to go there thinking they’re the missing piece. Some fans may not like the building process but it’s the best way in these times. Ask the cowboys they buy, buy, buy and end up done in the playoffs.
Saquon was arguably a comeback player in the league last year and deserved a new deal! The Giants didn't even pay DJ top 10 money. They were terrible last year and will be terrible this year!

Im in the minority, but I actually agree with Joe Schoen. Joe is thinking with his brain, in my opinion. He's putting the onus on Daniel Jones to perform so he can definitively make a choice about Jones' future with the Giants. While building a team inside out, starting with the O Line.
Yes, definitely watched it and felt that Joe Schoen has the right vision - implementing that will be the hard part obviously. I want him to build the team that can thrive with/without Daniel Jones but they aren't there yet. And, that's what the Jones critics can't seem to grasp - the team isn't in the playoffs with average, above average QB play. They lack the foundation to win but seem to be putting the right pieces together.
They know jones isn’t the guy. The thing is, they might have to survive another Daniel jones disaster to find their QB in a way worse 2025 QB Class.
I'm not so sure about Joe Schoen being a good GM. Look at some of the moves he has made: signing Daniel Jones big contract, letting Saquon go for nothing, Evan Neal is a bust, trading for a Darren Waller who retired. Schoen will be heading into a 3rd year and the Giants are going backwards not forwards. Granted Jones got hurt, but a few team lost starting QB and did not collapse.
That waller trade was a low risk high reward situation. Did you forget everybody else who schoen drafted? Evan neal hasn’t lived up to anything yet but what about everybody else he drafted. $40mil a year is top 15 money so idk why you’re complaining

I don't know any of the speakers on this video, but the second from the right obviously grew up in the participation trophy error. This isn't just a game it's a business. It's an honest assessment of how bad the offensive line was that they are paid to do. He also pointed out the fact that they didn't have chemistry which isn't a slight on them, but a FACT that they are all new playing together. The offensive line was and has been horrible for 6+ years, even the year the Giants went to the playoffs. Daniel made that run happen!
Paying a 5 dollar QB 40 million, doesn't make him an elite QB, it makes you a stupid organization and GM. Barkley was not the running back the Giants needed. They needed a power running back able to run over people, make holes for themself, because their offensive line wasn't run or pass blocking effectively. Maholmes makes things happen, when the pocket collapses, he looks to make plays down field, but Jones NEVER looks to make plays down field. He would throw dinks to Barkley or another receiver 5 yards down field, or run. Also, while Jones runs decently, not great, not very fast, but fast enough, he is not very allusive within the pocket, and has horrible pocket presence, which is hard to teach or train into a QB.
Giants had full editorial control of the show. Joe let these stay in the episode he stands behind everything you hearing.

I'm sure Aiyuk is loved in that locker room, and him not getting a good deal is a bad sign for veterans there, if it is a long term thing it could potentially cause riffs in the locker room, could be a lowkey sign of the ending of Shanahan era in San Fran (all speculation of course)
