Excellent little video
Thanks Robert. I’m glad you enjoyed it. This one was fun to make. Thanks for watching.
Outstanding documentary! I found it quite amusing seeing the locals of Menindee place a car on the tracks protesting against the Comet’s replacement, and when did Ivanhoe and Menindee regain their rail service as there is currently one today?
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah that scene with the car had me sad for the car as I've owned a white Austin 1800, poor car 😪 Thanks so much for watching.
Love the different format, looking forward to the next one.
I’m looking at doing this style more regularly if it’s popular, highlighting different rail services that have past.
As kid I used to travel on the comet lots of times between Orange to Dubbo when I use to visit my Grandparents. My Dad was an engine driver in Dubbo. My parents move to Sydney. So trips to Dubbo were often lucky enough my trip with my father found that he knew the driver of the comet and he invited my dad and I up to the cab that was the high lite of my trip I Evan got to blow the horn.
Hi Mark, what a great memory to have, something that is shared with your father too, that's pretty much what this channel is about. Thanks for commenting
A NSW Rail friend [ RIP Lex ] was a traveling fitter attached to Parkes Loco depot where the Comet was based ............. he told me numerous stories about riding on/fixing the Comet over the years .
Hi Terry. The older stories are always great to hear. I want to do a video telling the stories one day soon. Thanks for watching.
I worked on them back in the 60's
One driver described The Silver City Comet as The XPT of The Thirties. Putting an XPT alongside an SCC set was like comparing an Model-T Ford to a Rolls-Royce even.
It certainly was ahead of its time but couldn't compete with progress and the bus system. Thanks for watching
Travelled on Comet 1960 to Roto then railmotor to Hillston
That must of been a trip to remember. Thanks for watching.
Man, I really wish an operational Comet was still around today. It sure was a beauty.
It would be nice if NSW Trainlink were to paint an Xplorer in those colours as an ode to this railway legend.
What a great idea, the Comet had so much character, there’s nothing modern around like that now. I’ll never forget my trip on her in 89.
This was a very informative and enjoyable video, I cannot wait for more videos like this!
Thanks so much. This one took a while. I appreciate the feed back as I really enjoyed making this one. I plan on doing more if they are popular, so please share it. Thanks again for your support.
I wonder if the first batch V sets would be a good train to make a documentary type video on.
Great idea. I’ll look into what footage I have.
@@trainspottingwithbarrie Have you managed to find any footage of them? I am very curious to know what they sounded like 😋
@@Specific_XPT hi. I'm still compiling my V set special, I did find some vintage footage for that. It will be out soon. I did catch V21 pulling out of Central on a video short coming out on Wednesday 21/9, keep an eye out. It's short but the traction motor wind up noise is great.
Excellent record! I travelled on this train once: great cars and enjoyable journey. I'd forgotten it lasted until 1989.
Thank you for the informative commentary.
Thanks Edmund so much for the feed back, I plan on doing more of this style but they do take quite a bit longer. I just finished the southern aurora video, you might enjoy it. Thanks for watching.
I really enjoyed the video, now we are back to a once per week in each direction from Parkes to Broken Hill, pathetic really, Comet gone, XPT replaced by Explorer set and they will soon to be replaced in 2023 by CAF Spain built sets. Silo's closed, signalboxes closed, my we have changed since 1989 out in western NSW.
Hey thanks Diesel Dave, it was a real shame when they cancelled that service. I could only imagine how declined the rail services are now compared to the heyday. It not the same in the city either, very hard to find anything of interest nowadays. Thanks for watching.
@@trainspottingwithbarrie The votes are in the city Barrie, hence new trains and frequent services, they don't give a continental about us those losers in Macquarie Street...
Does that power car still out there
There is one in Broken hill and one in Thirlmere rail museum, but I'm not sure what level of operation they are in. Both preserved. Thanks for watching.
Is that power unit still out there.
Hi James, 3 are in preservation one in Broken Hill and one at Thirlmere and Dorago. If you go to 18:22 I mention where they are now. Thanks for watching
I was working at Chullora working on them
