    This was the video I subscribed for. Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!! I'm using the B frame 3HP model and the same brake for a CNC spindle; this helps a TON.

    Great can you show me in video how to wiring the VFD 2,2 kw at :
    + fuse
    + safety relay
    + filter
    + braking resistor
    + contactor
    + e-stop
    + reset button
    + switch main power

      Ho Papi,
      Each of those subjects is covered in a separate video. You can find all of the WEG VFD videos here:

    Does Automation direct still carry the external braking resistors for CFW300A04P2S1NB20, The smaller A frame?

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the feedback! Yes, AutomationDirect does sell braking resistors, BUT beware that the A Frame drives don't have Dynamic Braking built in (see 4:00 in the video). So if you need dynamic braking with the A Frame drives you will also need an external Dynamic Braking Unit (DBU). Automation Direct sells those too, of course ... www.automationdirect.com/adc/search/search?fctype=adc.falcon.search.SearchFormCtrl&cmd=Search&searchquery=dynamic+braking+unit&categoryId=0&TxnNumber=-1&searchqty=10

    dose we need a breaking resistor when we switch off the motor and drive. braking resistors are used when we have to decelerate the motor right ???

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  3 года назад

      Correct - Braking Resistor will help when you try to decelerate the motor faster than it would spin down by itself. The Braking resistor is needed to absorb the excess energy created by decelerating the motor. Whether you need a braking resistor depends on how fast your are trying to decelerate and the size of the load. The drive can handle some of it by itself.
      If you decelerate and get an overvoltage fault, then yes, you probably need a braking resistor.

    This is the best video i have been seen. So if i have vfd and i want to add DR but i want to calculte the resistor required for the drive, how to calculate that? If the deceleration time 5 sec and the drive power 11 kw, 400 volt?
    Another question, the power supply is not some times stable, some times 380 some time 370, so the dc bus is not stable and the that changes overoltage threshold and maybe exceeding resistor power, is not right?

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  3 года назад +1

      Resistor size:
      ----------------------
      If you need to sink 11KW of power at 400V then you need to sink 11,000/400 = 27A of current. And we know I^2 x R = 11K -> so
      R = 11K/I^2 = 15ohm 11KW resistor in a ideal world at 100% duty cycle.
      You said your decel time was 5 sec, but didn't tell us the duty cycle. You will need that to derate the resistor size.
      See 04:18 in the video for more on this.
      Here is another video that discusses Dynamic Braking: ruclips.net/video/87EwaBzd7Dk/видео.html
      Unstable Supply
      ------------------------
      You are correct, so plan based on the worst case line voltage.
      The over voltage videos covers this.

      @@automationdirect Thank you so much for helping.
      I have the drive that i told you, 11kw and from the catalog i found the brake resustor required and that was 60 ohm but the installed on the drive about 65 ohm /1500 w, but that one burned so i wanted to buy new one but i found 70 ohm, my question is if i use a higher ohm resistor than the rated in catalog and higher power it will be good or bad to the drive? I mean if the catalog says 60 ohm and power resistor i use more than 1500 watts for example 3000 watts. And 80 or 70 ohm. Is it right?

    • @wadib3eed7
      @wadib3eed7 3 года назад +1

      If i use duty cycle 20 %. Do you mean duty cycle 20 % as example the the time resistor will be on and off? Means in 20 % the resistor will be on and off at 80 %?

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  3 года назад +1

      @@wadib3eed7 Right, if you only use the resistor 20% of the time you can reduce the wattage accordingly. Note that the braking resistors in the manual assume a 10% braking duty cycle (you are only braking 10% of the time) which is very typical for these kinds of things.

    • @wadib3eed7
      @wadib3eed7 3 года назад +1

      @@automationdirect so, as the exampke 11kw drive neans 11kw resistor at 100% duty cycle but at 10% duty cylce it will be 1.1kw power of the resistor, right?

    Hallo,
    I have a cheap chinese Vfd with DB built in. Now i bought an Brake resistor, to stop my motor more quickly, but i cant activate the DB. I changed every parameter i found but nothing works… can you tell me wich parameters you changed to get the DB activated?

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  5 лет назад

      Hi Luk, The video shows you the parameter we used at time 2:41. It was parameter 153. But that is for this drive. Look for something similar in your drive.

    Dynamic braking no need resistor brake, it put DC voltage into stato in order to make a braking Force

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  3 года назад

      DC Braking is intended to hold things like fans still once the motor is stopped and should not be used to actually stop the motor.
      Braking resistor is used to stop a motor with a lot of inertia quickly without overvoltage errors.

    • @ttautomation7088
      @ttautomation7088 3 года назад +1

      @@automationdirect If we need to stop motor with a lot of inertia immediately, can stopping with the Braking resistor do?

    • @automationdirect
      @automationdirect  3 года назад +1

      @@ttautomation7088 Yes, Braking Resistor will make a HUGE difference, as you can see in the examples in this video.
