- this was probably one of the hardest slugcat specific mods that i've played, so much of the game is based on perception that taking it away makes the game so much scarier.
anyway i had a lot fun doing something like this-

What an interesting way to use monk's unique "overseer light" mechanic!
It really makes encounters feel different
You didn't get all the dream sequences by the way! If you get all of them you'll see that sadly the little pup was left behind as hunter tried to ascend. It didn't just get left either. The guardians smashed its head into the ground, which seemed to cause brain damage that slowly took its eyesight away. When we see a cutscene from after it got left behind and it's still a pup, it's still able to see, which is why I think it was brain damage that it suffered rather than damage to the eyes. But I'm not sure. It's really sad though. Poor little dude just didn't have the karma for it. Glad it got to meet hunter in the end :( Hunter didn't want to leave it behind, either. If you try to keep going forward even after the guardians assault you, you can see hunter holding still waiting for you.
I think it actually shows slug pup being left behind in a dark place. Then he adapts to the darkness but later scavenger throws flashbang at a slug pup damaging his already sensitive eyes. BUT HEY that's just a, theory A comment Theory!

I hate that. If Artificer can use dead scavengers to pass gates, why isn't our karma shared with the pup?

I just realized this is probably what happens to most slugpups when the player decides to ascend :( just left all alone in filtration surrounded by enemies and can't see shit 💔

Yeah, I think that's what this campaign's story is, and it's really sad. It looks like it's showing what happens to slugpups after hunter players ascend (since they can't take their pups to OE for a happy ending instead.) It's so brutal

This made me realize, it'd be cool if there was an exploration game like this, but the first playthrough you do is one with minimal vision so you go through entire areas not realizing just how grand they are... then on the second playthrough you have to retread, this time with good vision, and the big reveal of just how massive and distant the world around you is would hit like a truck
...and of course this second playthrough would also have much harder enemies and such to compensate for the huge boost of having vision
or just the option to backtrack afterwards in the same playthrough so you can still choose to have the experience from before

Would be even better if this mod made the entire map dark except for this holographic circle around you, and a sound caused by something make itself and it's direct environment (the whole part in a straight line to the source up to a distance of 10 meters) "light up" to make both temporarily visible.
Don't give people ideas on how to make this game harder-

@@DaniesHereYou already can barely see, but I think this would make sense and allow you to see more.
The room full of constantly moving spiders, for example, should be brimming with sound at the bottom, telling you EXACTLY what is below.
@@Leekodot15 yes but lizards that are stationary, like white lizards or black ones (blind) would be pain to deal with. Not to mention that mother spiders don't move 24/7 like small spiders, they also are usually stationary.
//Edit: The slugcat would have been overstimulated if one creature was in the water while the other would have been behind it, going off of your logic. The one that would go at it from behind would have much better chance in killing you, as you would only hear the one in the water.//
@@DaniesHere You actually raise several fair points. Though from a gameplay perspective, I think it would make sense if you could see any noise if it's sufficient enough, since we can already see what's in tunnels with no line of sight as a sighted scug. No need for "overstimulation" mechanics.
Also not sure where you're going by "My logic," but also, yeah. Lizards would be a pain to deal with, same with the dropwigs.
Maybe it could work kinda like centipedes, where when you move, your senses are lowered and you can't see anything sneaking up on you?
I was hungry in memory crypts so when I saw the antennae of a delicious baby centipede I immediately ran over and grabbed it. Weirdly enough though the grabbing didn't work.... and then the baby centipede moved and I saw it was actually significantly larger than its antennae led me to believe and was a freaking adult centipede. It was grabbing me already. I died
i hate centipedes so much and if this happened to me i think i'd just close the game and cry

The premise of this scug is sad. I guess the Hunter angst never ends, does it?
It does. The child growsws up and finds their way to meet their mentor again, even though, he was forced to leave, to not succumb to the disease and to not harm anyone with what he would turn into. It's the sad story but it has a peaceful ending

Judging by the dreams of the past, The Darkness actually grew up with the Scavenger tribe in Subterranean. The final sight loss happened when scavengers had to use a flashbang to save them from a predator. I believe that's why you start at like 40 reputation with them - because they raised you and know you well

I have Said It before,but i shall say It again:the ARG possibilities here are rather large in quantity. Perhaps one could search this video by watching It all within an editing program to turn the brightness up to Max,but i Will not be the one to do that.
even though i may not participate in solving the ARG that might be hidden,i Will still watch these videos. The quality and entertainment are both Very high,and i Will not mind waiting for longer between each video because of what the description details. Do not be afraid to take a rest from making these videos, everyone needs one every once in a while.
I've been tempted to play this mod since I saw it while I was looking for some good ones. I'm probably gonna finish my Saint run first though

Arguably better for shaded
Unarguably better than most scugs in Shaded. The radius you see is comparable to the radius of glow from neuron fly or a lantern, and when expanding it, you see MUCH more than any scug even can in Shaded Citadel. Of course having a lantern is still preferable because of spiders, but you can totally live without it
And - who would have thought, a scug that grew up in dark area and adapted to living there, would be most well-suited for surviving another dark area :D

It makes perfect sense if you know the lore. Each karma level represents a vice/sin/whatever and level 2 is lust. Level 1 is violence which is why Artificer is locked there.

this is the darkness mod off of the rain world steam workshop unfortunately you can only mod the steam version of the game
i played the mod myself it was really fun but could definitely be improved a lot
