The mismatching desks would drive me crazy!! Can you organize them in a way where the groups are the same style of desk? Like the lighter colored ones together? It’s looking great so far!!
Love your vibe and decor! I think that big nook/alcove you clean out would be great for all that stuff in the window behind your desk. Like display the student gifts on the top shelf and put your teacher toolbox in the center on the middle shelf! That way your window doesn’t look too cluttered, you get all the natural light, and you have a purpose for the nook. It also looks like there might be some room on top of you cabinets to display signs/gift etc if the space isn’t big enough. Idea for desks: first I would have to get rid of that one dark damaged desk lol 2. I like how you put the larger one as an end cap for a group. Could you organize the desks in sets of 5 (or more) and get enough of the larger desks to have one for each group? I like the idea of that student being the “group captain” or something and being in charge of supplies, collecting papers, etc because they have the extra space in the storage section of the desk.
WOW thank you so much for all of this!! I am afraid of some of the items being broken or stolen or I would put them in that alcove :( I ended up using that area as a place to store my curriculum as we got new curriculum this year and it came with a lot of pieces! Great idea for the desks! I did end up moving the damaged one to a separate area. We unfortunately cannot get rid of them 🥲 LOVE the captain idea!
What about your desk over to the left of where it is, in that corner, but diagonally with the kidney table still across from it. Then you have a view of the whole room and it frees up some space for all the desks to fit in that area.
A hamster on the lower shelf and plants on the upper shelf (in the alcove), would be my suggestion…if you don’t need it for academic items. Or a display of cultural items that go along with your curriculum for them to explore? Looking good! Thanks for sharing your work!
Great ideas!! I would LOVE to have a class pet one day. I literally have no green thumb though so plants are not a good option for me 😂Love the idea of a cultural display!
@@hey.kash__ Please don't do a hamster! That space is not actually large enough for them. They need much larger cages than people assume. The US is extremely behind on how to actually give them adequate care, and the cages sold at pet stores are not at all large enough. They also don't make great class pets because they are crepuscular, which means they're really only active from dusk through dawn. They can have a tendency to bite, depending on what breed you go with, and they don't always love being handled, which might be a bummer for kids who see a tiny, cute, fluffy animal and immediately want to touch them. Just wanted to mention this, as someone who's had several hamsters as personal pets. They're adorable, and I've been lucky with how sweet mine have been, but that is not always the norm!
Hi, love your videos. Try just using the same borders all around that will help with cohesiveness in the classroom. For example, you have the wood bulletin board, black and white stripes border and I think a pink border as well. Try to stick to that all around your room. That's my suggestion. I do like your room and your style.
I'm not sure what you could use for the two shelves you cleaned out behind that brown paper you had hanging but if whatever you put there, if you would like to hide it, you should get something similiar to a shower rod and buy some fabric that is school themed and make some simple curtains. Would look cutier than the brown paper. Maybe put overstock tissues or paper towels there.
I love the dividing wall you have in your room. There's very little visual space between the polka dot border and the polka dot letters, so it looks a little off to me. I'd go for a solid color scallop (probably black) or use bunting with a solid color background. A lot accomplished for Day 1--best of luck to you this school year.
Can you ask your colleagues or custodial staff about swapping out the few mismatching desks? I've done that in the past and was usually lucky to have a colleague agree to a switch or a custodian keeping a lookout in case a change was possible later on.
We unfortunately all have mismatched desks 😅 our class sizes are growing so much and so quick that I don't think any of the teachers have a true "class set" of one desk.
Your teacher desk are is very cluttered and may look better by your black cubby next to window with your kidney table setup, that way you can use your black cubby for the stuff in your window and I think the lighting is better for small group. Just a thought!?
It would make so much more sense if you could use the grey built in shelf as your teacher desk and put the kidney table in front of it. Idk if you have the plugs for the computer there.
Some of the teachers do have it as their teacher desk! Technology told me that the computer cords were actually wired to the far wall so I unfortunately am stuck there!
I agree! I unfortunately am limited to inches with moving my teacher desk. I've had the kidney table in that back corner before and wasn't the biggest fan though I did have some bulky furniture there that I no longer have. Will keep this as a thought for sure!
What if you moved your teacher desk & table to the corner you said was going to be the library AND then move the library where your desk is now? OR Move your desk to the right corner(opposite of the corner I suggested)
I was actually thinking the same thing why would you have your back towards your students I would think that you would want to see them! That's something that needs to be changed and like the student desk they all need to have the color repeated like light on light and not dark and light mix together cuz I don't look right at all!
Great point on having my back to the students!! Don't know why it didn't cross my mind. I am usually at the kidney table or floating around so I am usually not at my desk. I bought my rolling desk which I am hoping will be more of my "home base" than my current teacher desk (really considering getting rid of the desk). I usually only use the computer to pull up slides for the day. I typically have students up front for lessons and they can use flex seating for independent work (while I have students at the kidney table). I agree so much on the desks!! Ugh it looks so weird haha. I am definitely going to fix that the next time I am in. Thank you so much for your help!!
@@hey.kash__ do you have another solution for a place that you can put your computer and your other stuff on your desk currently that way you can switch over and get rid of that big desk because in actuality it does take up a lot of space!?
@@karigruppen1405 good idea! I didn’t have much storage. My problem was that I would leave whatever I was working on on top and when it was time to pull small groups, I’d have to toss everything on the ground lol.
Don't give your back to your students. I was a teacher for 28 years, and we were reminded every year your desk where you can see your students. Just a suggestion.
@seren 8991 I agree! I wouldn't have my back to the students.I would put the desk in the corner by the 12345 bulletin board or get rid of the desk altogether. I would also ask your team teachers to trade desks so that you all can have the same type of desks. That would drive me crazy having different desks.
Great advice!! I am rarely at my desk (usually during prep) and often find myself more at the kidney table or with my laptop floating around. I mainly use my desktop for pulling up slides (which if I am on time, I do before school lol). Such a good point though.
@@MrsSweep I do wish I could move my desk to a corner, I think that would solve 99% of my problems haha! I have considered getting rid of the desk too but not sure where I would put the computer and monitors (just about the only thing holding me back). I have to stick to the area that it's at unfortunately with the cords being wired there. It oddly never crossed my mind to have my back to the students with this which is such a great point. I am rarely at my desk during class and usually walk around or am up front with them. Our whole school pretty much all have mismatched desks. 🥲

Was thinking the same thing. Group like desks.
I like the dots and swirling boarder.

It's looking great! I like all the different variety of borders and desks. It gives the room character and personality.
Thanks so much!!! I did end up switching it out but I kept them in case I wanted to change again which is very likely lol.

I would try to group desks by similarity.
Certainly going to rearrange them to do this!! No clue why I didn't think of that lol.

❤❤❤
What about turning your desk sideways since you’re landlocked to that spot due to technology. You could have it facing the front door the room.

2:55 - 28 students? Goodness! God bless you!! I could not imagine!! What grade do you teach? New subscriber here!
Yay!! Thanks so much! This will be my 4th year in 3rd grade! :) Where I grew up there were only like 18 kids in my class, definitely a big change lol.

Don't get rid of your desk. Your kidney table will become a MESS, lol. Take it from my experience haha!
