  • Some verbs are used in different contexts in English. For example, the verb “make” can be used in many contexts, such as when you create something, when you choose something or come to a decision, and even when you kiss someone! With all these usages, it may be confusing for you to understand when and when not to use the verb “make”. In this lesson, I will teach you exactly when you can and cannot use the verb “make”, so that you get it right every time. After watching, solidify your knowledge by doing the quiz at www.engvid.com... Yes, solidify!

It's funny, though, that in English there are some expressions with "to do" which are uncommon in Portuguese, my native language, like, "to do the dishes" (lavar a louça), "to do the laundry" (lavar a roupa), "to do the ironing" (passar a roupa), "to do the cooking" (cozinhar), etc., when it comes to household chores, for example. It implies you're in charge of doing that part of the work. You make food, but you do the cooking... lol. Anyway, I love the English language.

‘Is dinner ready?’ ‘No, not yet.’
The British use 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 and 𝐲𝐞𝐭 with the present perfect tense while Americans use them both in the present perfect and in the simple past.

American : 'What time is he leaving?' 'He has already left' or 'He already left.'
British : Have you finished your work yet?
American : Have you finished your work yet or Did you finish your work yet?
British : He has not returned yet.

Ronnie, when you talk about making the bed, this cleared up something that I was trying to explain to the class yesterday, because I just realised that the bed is not the piece of furniture that you arrange the sheets and covers on, but rather better defined as the arrangement of sheets and covers and pillows that you sleep in, whether you make this arrangement on a bedframe, or on the floor. What, btw, is the difference beteen lying on the bed, and being in bed?
