Could you explain how the album changed your life? With exception of Seek And Destroy, The Four Horsemen, and I guess a toss up of Whiplash and Jump In The Fire……. I’m not a big fan of this album. I’m not arguing, I’m just trying to understand what I must be missing. Tons of Metallica fans view this album as one of the best, but to me it’s the absolute worst. And in all fairness it should have been their worst seeing how it was their first!!!!

    • @timbeatty8411

@@MrSlowpoke-jn9lv that would be easy to explain. I never said it was even remotely close to their best album. I was 13 years old and didn't really know thrash music and it introduced me to a whole new genre. Hence this album literally changed my life since I started playing guitar joined metal bands and played thrash music for the last 35 years but cheers bro didn't mean to offend you have a good time listening to music.

Mine too, that is when I became a Metallica fan, Whiplash is my favorite song, and considering how much I love Sanitarium (welcome home), Damage Inc. Blackened, and pretty much every song before The Load album, that is saying something.

I'm actually amazed by the quality considering it's from 1983. This is early, young, raw Metallica. They were still wet behind the ears here. You can tell that James hadn't found his voice yet. Still a great song from an epic album though.

I believe this was filmed on the "Kill 'em all" tour in late 1983, just as the 1st album came out on their then-manager Johnny Zazula's Megaforce Records. The band members were around 20 -21 years of age and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett had joined Metallica a few months earlier... Meanwhile, somewhere in L.A, former lead guitarist Dave Mustaine was putting Megadeth together...
It was a very pivotal time for metal - bands were getting faster and more aggressive w/ UK bands like Motorhead, Venom, Raven... Canadian bands like Anvil, Exciter... Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, were breaking big commercially... Accept from W. Germany was rising fast...
Then u had the American bands that took it to the next level - Anthrax and Manowar were signed to Megaforce w/ Metallica by Johnny Z, who also signed Overkill ... Brian Slagel (who had released Metallica's first demo) Metal Blade Records on the West Coast signed Slayer ... Exodus (Kirk Hammett's former band) signed to Torrid Records, but their debut album 'Bonded by blood' was delayed until 1985... Metal Church from Seattle debuted in 1984... same year as Voivod from Canada. Exciting times for metal! 🤘🤘

I like their performance of Whiplash in Seattle 1989 better, even though I really love Cliff and his playing James clearly lost his voice here and I really loved when Jason sang a verse of whiplash, so Seattle wins. For whatever reason they had even more energy in Seattle than here although they were older and Whiplash at Seattle was their last song they played. This is still cool but Seattles version is better.

In my opinion it is best to check out official videos or straight album tracks/lyric videos as your intro to this stuff... then when you go to a show you can just bang your head and sing along while the energy takes over.
