When we over emphasize one country as being the ultimate amazement I would have to say there are naive or targeted reasons behind taking that position. Sure China is amazing, just like every country. Planet Earth is amazing and that is what we need to emphasize to live in peace.

I am an international student in Montreal, Quebec. I always receive shit from the local people. I don't even know why westerners look down upon us so much. Yesterday, I went to a teacher's office during his free hours for questions, he was unbelievably rude to me with all different kinds of sarcasms and then he threw my paper of questions on the ground. I even said sorry and gave all the pressure to myself (I speak fluent French and I didn't speak English to irritate him) I genuinely believe that the absolute majority of Chinese people are very welcoming and tolerant to foreigners compared to the way I am treated here in Canada.

You would definitely explore more, because you can eat various types of Chinese food in Shenzhen as well as western food. And I really wanna recommend you to download some Chinese food apps and it will takes you to many awesome restaurants. Beijing has many ancient buildings which probably gives you a strong feeling of ancient Chinese culture, I hope you like it. Since you've mentioned about "hot pot ", I just wanna point out that there are a lot of places to go for "hot pot" in Shenzhen too, so hope you would enjoy both traveling in Shenzhen and Beijing!

The hot pot she tried was actually invented in Chongqing and got popularized all over the country. If she wants, she should tried the original Beijing Mutton Hotpot invented by local Muslins. That's a typical favorite dish of Beijing Cuisine just like the roasted duck.

Hi Poppy, I'm a native Chinese, glad that you love my country. I've just visited the forbidden city/palace museum in August. There's actually a new policy that for a Chinese person , he/ she only needs to pre order the ticket online and go in using ID card. I don't know how exactly passport works but I think you might also be able to pre order the ticket online and go straight in.
It's literally full of people in the forbidden city , but I find that there's fewer people in the areas which requires extra ticket (also online bookable) such as 钟表馆( exhibition of clocks), especially when the museum has just opened ,when most of the people are crowded in the three main halls. Then after you get out of these areas and come back to the three halls, there might be fewer people. Hope that's of some help to you.
