When my kid's father came around to pick them up for "his weekend." If he did show, they went to McDonald's and the park; were gone for no more than an hour; returned home promptly. I always had them pack clothes in their backpacks and another bag to hold their schoolwork. They would come home completely defeated; heads down in disappointment. My suggestion was for them to call a couple buddies for the weekend; to come over to stay and play games; be outdoors and do their homework together. Those boys all traveled hundreds of miles to be at my youngest son's wedding. Those boys all live within a few miles of each other in Florida. We're from Ohio. Family. It's who shows up.
