- I get asked all the time what are the best motorcycle road trips to go on. Having now ridden a large part of the planet, I continually come back to Spain and the glorious ribbons of tarmac she has to offer the biker, but the hidden gem is the Canary Islands. What this beautiful collection of little islands offer the biker is beyond comprehension unless you've experienced it first hand. Never mind being the best motorcycle roads in Europe, I'd go as far as to say the Canaries offer the biker the very best motorcycle rides full stop.
In this 2nd episode in the Canary Motorcycle Tours series, I join the group again as we explore more of the biggest island, Gran Canaria. Sat aboard a 2019 Honda Africa Twin we experience the fantastic Canary Islands Stelvio Pass, amongst a wealth of amazing biking roads. I've ridden out there with Canary Motorcycle Tours four times now and it is amazing out there. Bruce you've done a great job of capturing the excitement of riding there and the dramatic grandeur of the island interior. Its definitely worth an early start and ferry ride for a days riding on Tenerife, riding through the lava fields towards the top of a volcano is something to behold.

I’m so gutted though as the audio failed on my GoPro for the Tenerife day - I have all this amazing footage but no sound! 🤦♂️
@@teapotone O no! I do like the old Hero 4 for reliable audio before the awful audio block. Hope you can still make something of it with a bit of a voice over and a "Look at THATttttt" once in a while.

I did the same roads on a Yamaha MT09 Tracer in 2018. Now that was a bike for those roads. I booked my own flights, booked a hotel and rented the bike from Maspolomas. Took my own Gear across. 7days. Epic

The sounds an engine/exhaust makes can really make the riding experience way better. Don’t think I’ll ever go back to in-line fours now I’m on a KTM VTwin.
Aye I’m the same, there are very few inline 4’s that get me excited these days - the S1000RR being one of the few exceptions 😍

Totally agree on the Africa Twin. Last time was in the UK I rented one and ran around all over W.Sussex and the South Coast. That engine is a total peach. The grunt coming out of corners is great, just effortless around the lanes. Now you know why Dicky Vegas just bought his...
I’ve ridden the bigger DCT on auk roads and it didn’t feel anything like this slightly smaller engine predecessor. I still don’t think it beats the GS/KTM/Multistrada, but over there on those type of roads, it’s all you need - that engine note is beautiful in the mountains and it’s got just enough grunt to have fun on those tight mountain twisties 👍
I’d still love to try the GS or Superduke there though 😍

It’s easy to get great footage over there as the views and stunning roads are everywhere.
Regarding the editing, it’s just practice and I’m still learning now with every vid I do.
Concentrate on the flow of the story and try to think about that BEFORE you actually film, so you are consciously getting the shots you think may be useful for the final vid.

Love the roads. Takes me back to my trip to Slovenia in 2018. Any advise on a drone?
Personally I’d be very careful about buying a drone at the moment. Regulations in the Uk have changed recently making ‘hobbyist’ drone flying harder in a lot of places.
That aside, it depends what you want the drone for. If you think you’ll be able to have it autonomously track and follow you on the bike, then to be blunt - it won’t. There is a drone in the States which is fantastic at that, but it’s not been cleared to fly in the Uk yet.
The DJI drones are easy to fly and can produce incredibly cinematic footage IF you know what you’re doing.

Outstanding roads Bruce. Just for your info, the 2019 Africa Twin (M) is almost 20 kg lighter than the 2021 1250GS, so that might be why it feels more maneuverable.
