  • Jody Jazz DV Platinum 20th Anniversary vs. The Theo Wanne Durga for tenor saxophone.
Jody Jazz DV Platinum 20th Anniversary
According to the Joddy Jazz web site, this mouthpiece was made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Joddy Espina’s company. Production was strictly limited to 100 units. The one Im using for this video is number 20 out of 100. The main difference between this model and the regular DV is the platinum plating finish vs. the gold plated. ALSO, the bite plate one the platinum mouthpiece is a special emerald green instead of the traditional black plate. This version has the same secondary window design as the DV. In terms of size it's only available on 7* which equals to .108. The regular DV comes with a Rico ligature while the platinum version includes a Rovner Platinum ligature. The mouthpiece comes in a nice leather pouch and a bamboo canister and a certificate of authenticity signed by Jody Espina.
    Theo Wanne Durga model 3
According to the Theo Wanne web site the Durga produces a powerful and fat-sounding as well as a unique designed baffle and deep rounded inner sidewalls with a large chamber. This mouthpiece has a built-in ligature with a two-point contact system that can be moved back and forth with an included hex-driver in order to adjust the tone. In FACT, in the Theo Wanne web site there are some ligature pressure plates available in different materials that are supposed to affect the sound. It also comes with a very cool reed replacer cap to protect the mouthpiece.

Thank you for this thoughtful and well-done video. We have people calling us to buy the Anniversary Model. We never sold them directly and are not aware of any more stores that have them. If you want to sell yours someday give us a call and we can send people your way. All the best, Jody

Durga sounds better suited for old school r&b thick sound. The Jody has a more nasal sound which I think is better suited for smooth jazz. You sounded great on both.

Both of them sound great...however I liked more the way that the DV sound on you. Obviously it depends on the sound that you have in mind versus the comfort and wich one helps you more to obtain what you want. You play so well! Killer sound.

DV is bright but sweet like syrup.. It's radiant, like warm light. Reminds me of Christmas by the fire, everything's just right.
The Durga is a little more textured, kinda like a cake. It's just a hint raspy or whispery. It's spooky and haunting. Kinda like Halloween.
At first I liked the Theo more, but the more I listen it's the Jody hands down for me. There's something special about the tone that makes it simultaneously warm and bright. There's a tenderness in the sound. the Theo is close and a damn good piece, but the sound is a little plainer in my opinion. Just go between 1:31 and 4:17 and you hear it.

You said the Durga 3 was an 8 tip opening and then said it's a 0.105" opening. An 8 tip opening for TW is a 0.110" tip opening, 0.105" would be a 7*
