Near Dark (1987) is another vampire classic. Highly recommended!
Yes it is!!!
I was amazed no one had that. Excellent and evil
@@ronbartkowiak3459 I hate it when they ain't been shaved.
Mainly overlooked due to the (IHMO) inferior Lost Boys being out at the same time.
Despite the twee ending probably my favourite Vampire movie.
Pete's face during Chris's explanation of Vampyres is priceless and Rich commenting he's "SOLD" on hot chics, boobs, and blood was hilarious! Great fun guys. Thank you.
All this stuff Chris has is just over the top in the best way possible. You just never know what in the hell he's gonna bring out! Insane Masks. Black Sabbath Jackets. Laser Discs. I love it!
Fright Night holds a special place in my heart when it comes to modern vampire films. The actors are excellent and the plot is terrific. Also Barnabas Collins was pretty damn creepy on Dark Shadows and always gave me the Willy's as a kid. Come to think of it he still does. 😁👹
The Swedish film Let the Right On In.
If you need to get to sleep fast. Could be the most overrated vampire film ever. I've tried to watch it multiple times but just can't get through it.
Not horrifying but very watchable. I liked that one vs. the American counterpart.
@@xaspirate8060 I thought it was brilliant and very original. The remake was Let Me In made by the revived Hammer.
From dusk till dawn, Near dark are two of my favorites
Pete, Rich and Chris you guys make the blasted pandemic somewhat tolerable, keep up the great work!
I love a couple of 'vampire-adjacent" movies, Romero's Martin and Ferrara's The Addiction.
Also Near Dark, Let the Right One In and going back quite a while, Carl Dreyer's classic Vampyr.
There was a TV movie back in the late 70s that terrified me when I was a kid which I think was just called Vampire. Anyway it starred token evil guy of the 70s/80s, Richard Lynch, who creeped me out in many a straight-to-video 'classic' in my early movie-discovery life.
Also, eye-opening for me in that sort of time period, for some reason, Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce, if space vampires count. Which they do in my house.
Great show as always.
1 Twins of evil 1971
2 The hunger 1983
3 Salems lot. 1979.
Loved Gary Oldman's Dracula (so suave and handsome) which also had Winona Ryder as Mina.
Salem's Lot scared the crap out of me when it came out. Even the remake was alright. Vampire's Kiss with Nicolas Cage and his massively over the top performance.
@Peter May Salem's Lot vampire always scared me as a kid. It was an eerie tale too with James at 15 starring and Starsky!
@Peter May I was in high school...nobody was talking about anything else!! 🤣
My favorite non Dracula vampire movie would be the original “Night Stalker “ TV movie with Darren McGavin. The Vampire in it gave me nightmares when I was a kid. lol
I could watch monsters den every day with these 3 guys. Awesome.
I watched Vampyres again not two nights ago.......it’s a great bad film...cool atmosphere as two cloaked hot women run through graveyards and get naked when their back at the castle....🤟
And indeed Pete 30 days of night is bleak and the vampires are seriously fucking scary......great film.....cool show as usual....🤟
Some great vampire films here. "The Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires" is one of my all time favourites
and it was the first Hammer Film I saw on the big screen,on a martial arts double bill. Hammer and Shaw Brothers made two films together, this and a hitman/martial arts film called "Shatter" (1974) Unfortunately, these were Peter Cushing's final two films for Hammer.
Three of the best non Dracula vampire films I've seen are:-
1. "Daughters Of Darkness" (1971) starring the stylish Delphine Seyrig.
2. "The Hunger" (1983) starring the even more stylish Catherine Deneuve along with David Bowie, Susan
Sarandon and Willem Dafoe.
3. "Let The Right One In" (2008), later remade by the resurrected Hammer Films as "Let Me in" (2010).
30 days of night one of my favourites
Buckets of blood in that movie!! 🎃
The second Chris Alo plugged BLACULA, I hit the thumbs up. I’m watching that and the sequel tonight. You guys rule.
Favorites:
Nosferatu (1922)
The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)
Salems Lot (1979)
Fright Night (1985) - The remake was starring Colin Farrell, not Ryan Reynolds
The Lost Boys (1987)
Interview With the Vampire (1994)
Blade 2 (2002)
Give me alcohol, pork scratchings, and a good horror movie. Fucking heaven.
Finally watched Vampyres (1974), thanks to mr. Alo, and it was great. Thanks!
Chris loves Blacula...
Posters, action figures....that's awesome dude
Oh God don't tell Chris there's an unobtainable box set of Subspecies! He'll go crazy trying to find it now! 😜
Great show!
Only flaw with this episode..it was to short!! Need a part 2 🙂
I remember when Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat to replace the deceased River Phoenix and it caused an uproar similar to when Heath Ledger was cast as Joker. Both knocked it out of the park.
Chris Alo !! dudes a riot ! i want to go out for a beer with the guy.
thanks my man! as soon as this apocalypse is over, anytime!
I would recommend Count Yorga and The Return of Count Yorga with Robert Quarry as Count Yorga. Quarry is excellent, both suave and demonic. And there are creepy vampire women.
Chris, Rich and you, Pete, make a great trio for the Monster's Den episodes and this show once again shows why. Great selections, good discussions and laughs all around. The time watching this show just flew by. Ah, the blaxploitation films and Blacula at the drive-in. Great times and good memories. And, as always, now there are some new movies to add to the watch list. No doubt you three could do another episode of this so hopes are that will remain on the agenda. But anxiously awaiting the upcoming show you mentioned on the holidays. Thanks, gents, for the entertainment.
The Lost Boys, Near Dark and Salem's Lot for me.
Yeah, The Lost Boys helped change the trajectory of vampire movies in the late 80s.
Great episode! May I suggest maybe doing your 10 or 15 favorite Twilight Zone episodes?
I got to check out the Hammer films and Vampyres.
David Prouse also played the writer's strongman companion at the end of the Kubrick film of "A Clockwork Orange"
I loved the Blacula films. That scene in the morgue scared the shit out of me!
Of the more recent ones I'd pick, Priest, Daybreakers, Blade and Underworld. Love Salems Lot and Near Dark plus From dusk till dawn.
House of Dark Shadows , The Night Stalker, and Near Dark
The Lost Boys
From Dusk till Dawn
Scream Blacula Scream
Blacula rules!
I've probably got my nostalgia goggles on, but I always loved Vamp.
1. Kiss of the Vampire
2. Vampire Circus
3. Fearless Vampire Killers
4. Fright Night (original)
5. Twins of Evil
Here's 3 of my deeper cuts:
1. Martin (1978) by George Romero. This was the first vampire film to treat vampirism as an addiction rather than a supernatural / fantasy related theme. It's cagey, disturbing and much scarier/unsettling too.
2. Near Dark (1987).
Again, a movie doing things a bit differently and with Kathryn Bigalow at the reigns this deserves a mention.
3. For a non English language pick- why not watch 'A girl walks home alone at night' (2014). It's an Iranian take on the vampire lore and it is a wonderful piece of cinema.
You do realize that we only discussed 3 picks each, right? And these were to be some of our favorite films where there are vampires, not called Dracula? And that there are HUNDREDS of films to choose from? While we all like Martin and Near Dark, with only 3 films to choose, you can't discuss all of them. As for 'non Engish' Vampire films...sure, there are some good ones, but again, we are discussing some of our favorites, they won't be your favorites obviously, regardless of what language they are spoken. To call it 'narrow' just because it doesn't fit your narrative is pretty silly.
@Sea of Tranquility Ah sorry Pete, I will re word that. 😉 No offence meant; I guess 🤷 I was hoping for some 'deeper cuts' - tis all!
Shadow of the Vampire
Let the Right One In
Interview with a Vampire
Fright Night
Lost Boys
Blade 1 & 2 (forget the 3rd, it's crap)
...and...
although not technically a film, the miniseries from the 70s, Salem's Lot.
Nice list. 🧛♂️
Near Dark...foil covered cars, beams of light blowing holes through vampires with half the cast of Aliens.
Night Stalker, the original tv movie.
Black Sabbath with Boris Karloff (and they provided the name of one of my favorite bands).
30 Days of Night
Vampyres is badass. Definitely need a sofa cushion handy during a viewing!
Anton Yelchin is in an awesome survival/siege horror thriller called Green Room. Highly recommended 🤟
Yes!! Green Room was awesome!!!
Chris needs to start his own Monstervision style show at some point. Good choices all around.
I am a big fan of 2009 vampire film "Daybreakers" which has such an interesting premise; what would happen if vampires experienced a massive blood shortage. Very cool stuff and I wish that it would have done well enough to warrant a sequel.
thanks Kevin! Yep, I really like Daybreakers!!
Two I enjoyed were 'Salem's Lot and Fright Night. Near Dark and Lost Boys were pretty big but I'd never actually seen them.
Love The Night Stalker TV movie, Salems Lot (original), Let the right one in, Fright Night (original) & 30 Days of Night.
Hey Pete, just read the director from fright night wants to do a part 2 called Resurrection with everyone he can get from the first one.
Now THAT would be cool! 😎
I remember seeing Children of the Night back in the day. It’s never been released on blu ray. I remember I liked it a lot but I’m not sure it it stands the test of time. Lol I saw Fright Night and the sequel in the theater back in the 80’s.
You guys are great. Cheers!
fright night will forever be one of my faves
Pete,I am a huge fan of monsters den.would you consider doing a killer animal movies?not jaws, grizzly, day of the animals, the pack, wolfen, etc.robp
Subspecies is great!
1. Near Dark
2. Let Me In (I saw this one before the original)
3. From Dusk Till Dawn (I wanted to go with Fright Night, but since it was the thumbnail...I went with Salma Hayek)
HM - Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, The Night Flier, Salem's Lot
Buddy is right about "Blackula" . The "Blackula " guy was also in an episode of the original Star Trek series .
One of my favourite of all time is nosferatu, does that count as a Dracula film, he is technically called count Orlock.
Chris I watched Scream for Help based upon your recommendation and loved it! Batsh@t crazy like you said and a few scenes and behaviors of the main characters I couldn't believe! Lol
Awesome, glad you liked it!!!!!!!!!!
great topic choice
Another great Monster Den episode Pete, you have really upped your game on the MD eps adding guests and hitting the genres nuances by not focusing in on just one movie.
Tom Cruise's Lestat is Ann Rice's primary character throughout her incredibly long vampire book series. In the second book, Lestat becomes a famous rock star. Rice's Mayfair Witches series (3 books) is even better. She's a very talented writer. I've read 'em all.
My Romanian grandparents' initial reaction after viewing "Dracula" (1931) -- "Slow-paced and a bit amusing."
The two Count Yorga, Vampire! movies from the early 70's are worth a look at; and the Blade trilogy franchise isn't half bad. Cheers, love the show!
Vampire exploitation films are my thing, my vote goes to Vampyros Lesbos (1971) by Jess Franco, Tender Dracula, or Confessions of a Blood Drinker (1974) - no idea how Peter Cushing ended up in that awful flick; or Fascination (1979) by Jean Rollin, among others.
Great vampire movies: Near Dark, Interview, Fright Night, Salem's Lot, The Hunger, Vampire's Kiss (with Nick Cage). Garbage ones: From Dusk Till Dawn, John Carpenter's Vampires, Fright Night 2, Vamp.
Salems Lot is a classic the window scene is genius.
Awesome vid guys, great choice with Blackula Chris! It is a great movie! Everyone picked some good ones!
1. The Night Flier - based on the Stephen King short story. Some really creepy scenes in that one.
2. Vampires - with James Woods & Thomas Ian Griffith, who looked really creepy & evil as the vampire.
3. From Dusk Til Dawn
4. Salem's Lot - It's a classic, gotta have it on my list, first Vampire movie I ever saw, it scared the shit out of me as a young kid. lol
I gotta give shout out for Barnabas Collins 😆
Hells to the YEAH! 🤘 🤘 As much cheesy campiness as Dark Shadows had, it had some great stories. The soap opera is such a terrible storytelling format tho.
@@ScottyKirk1 House of Dark Shadows the movie they did just before the end of the show is a fantastic horror movie with genuinely scary moments without the cheese of the soap.
@@XA351GT Agreed. The 2nd movie Night Of... Was just more of a ghost/possession story but it still had its charm. And one last time to see some of the actors on film as (mostly) their original characters. I actually saw that one as a kid not knowing it was sort of connected to a TV show.
John Carpenter's Vampires.
The Forsaken (2001)
Blade & Blade 2
Buffy The Vampire Slayer(The TV show)
Are those Hammer films Pete mentioned looking so good from a particular company?
No particular order, I loved them all. Christopher Lee -Hammer Films. Ingrid Pitt - Hammer Films. Jonathon Frid in House of Dark Shadows, Robert Quarry in Count Yorga, William Marshall in Blacula, Chris Sarandon in Fright Night, Kiefer Sutherland in Lost Boys, Stephen Dorff, Udo Kier, and Traci Lords in Blade.
How about a mention for Blade? That's a great twist on the usual vampire movie tropes, with Wesley Snipes being totally awesome in the title role, or the very sexy Razor Blade Smile, with enough blood and nudity (including a lesbian scene) to keep Chris interested, and speaking of lesbian scenes in vampire movies, you have The Hunger, which although somewhat slow and ponderous, it does have some mild nudity in a classy lesbian scene where the ever-gorgeous Susan Sarandon is deliciously seduced by the equally glamorous Catherine Deneuve. The latter is hardly up there with the classics, (iirc, Roger Ebert once described it as "an agonizingly bad vampire movie, circling around an exquisitely effective sex scene", but it is very stylish and features the classic Bauhaus song "Bela Lugosi's Dead" in its opening titles, which automatically makes it awesome :)
salem's lot!
Vampyres is excellent, also the film Daughters of Darkness (1971) by Harry Kuemel, with Delphine Seyrig as a Marlene Dietrich-like Countess Bathory is great.
The Spanish vampire film The Vampire Night's Orgy (1970) about a group of tourists trapped in a creepy dilapidated East European Village where the villagers are vampires. Directed by Leon Klimovsky, who did several films with the Spanish Lon Chaney Jr, Paul Naschy.
The next monster's den film should be about classic alien films such as War of the Worlds.
Great idea!
Lost Boys, Brides of Dracula (Hammer film that did not include Dracula), and From Dusk Till Dawn.
Let the Right One In. (2008) Thirst. (2009) 30 Days of Night. (2007)
Another show that's left me with a big "to watch" list, cheers 😊
My top three would be:
Near Dark
30 Days Of Night
The Lost Boys
Honourable mention for Only Lovers Left Alive. Not a lot of gore but great performances and atmosphere as Tom (Loki) Hiddleston's rock star vampire hangs out in rundown Detroit.
If you like comics you MUST check out Scott Snyder's American Vampire. Top notch!!
Polanski’s 1967 Fearless Vampire Killers is great as well. Plus, the Count totally flashes the horns🤘in it.
I love blacula very funny movie. and it is scary and I love the 70s look and music to it it's a classic.
Interesting trivia; Wilbur Stark, the Producer of VAMPIRE CIRCUS, was one of the producers of John Carpenters THE THING because he owned the remake rights.
The Fearless Vampire Killers
Nosferatu
The Brides of Dracula
Salem’s Lot
Vampyr
Fright Night
The Night Stalker
The Lost Boys
Twins of Evil
Count Yorga, Vampire
My top 3.
Near Dark
30 Days of Night
He Never Died
what about Count Yorga Vampire. Vicious vampire played by Robert Quarry, also the sequel The Return of Count Yorga
Fright night 2 is very good and funny.
Near Dark for me
I have one for each decade 1960s Boris karloff's vampire in the movie Black Sabbath..... 1970s low budget Equinox with a park ranger vampire..... 1980s Lifeforce British space vampire movie...... 1990s innocent blood female vampire fights the mob!
@Chris Alo, The star of Blackula played the King Of Cartoons on Pee Wee's Playhouse.
Thanks!! Sorry, I couldn't remember!
FYI get the Blu-ray of Vampyres at eBay. Amazon wants big bucks
Vampyres is the perfect erotic male fantasy vampire film. It's so dreamlike.
My picks
The Hunger(miss ya David Bowie
Thirst (Bakjwl) Korean movie
John Carpenter's Vampires
Daybreakers
Martin
Cronos
Really interesting and cool episode!! Love vampire movies 🎥 🙂 Thank you guys 🙂
The hunger is a great pick.
@@ukrocksounds3419 Thank you

Count Gorga
The velvet vampire
Zoltan devil dog
The Fright Night remakes are absolute abominations.
Vampyros Lesbos
Is it just me or does Rich look like Meatloaf?
Lol good one he does hahah
Pete, I love your channel, but these hour+ segments are too much, hard for me to keep up
We can’t rush through these conversations!
Then watch some of it, pause it and then watch the rest later.
I agree,watch,half,save then cont.rp
@@sotdude7 no you can't! It's great fun and we love it, Pete.
