Part of the tuning issues may be due to the bridge saddle screws backing out/moving. A drop of Loc-Tite on each will help with that. Great demo of a really cool guitar, thank you.
Hey I have a really rare guitar and I was wondering if you could maybe try to do a deep dive about it to maybe educate me and others about it. I have a 1996 Jackson Surfcaster SC4. I don't feel comfortable sending it (because there are only about 5 that I know of in the world right now and the one I have I only know of 1 in the finish it in [its a red tiger stripe flame top]) but I can maybe send you pictures if you tell me where to send them to.
Davie is fun to watch. He's always got some curse or schtick going. Between him and TheDooo... only reason I picked up trying to play and buying guitars.
@@xX_Franklin_T_Turtle_Xxa cult following means a small but fervent group of fans. The dude has almost 9m subscribers, so not really a cult following he’s legitimately popular.
Davie's fame is weird to me - I don't get it. I personally think he's grossly overrated* but I'd never knock him his success. Maybe his fans just get something I don't. *Charles B is leaps and bounds ahead of Davie504 both in terms of technical and compositional ability
I've always wanted to try a Jaguar style, I really like the look of this. I didn't really think much of it when I saw Davie's latest video, but seeing it up close was really cool. Also, I appreciate hearing how you pronounce "Jaguar", I cringe whenever I hear people say "Jag-wire".
Fuck yes Trogly! Davie rules, I’m a bass player and I watch your videos all the time. I sure wish you’d do more bass stuff but I know it doesn’t really do well for ya. We are out here, we are watching.
Since you have been reviewing Fender's I have way more respect for your Channel, not the biggest Gibby Fan, but you have helped me gain an appreciation for them, very cool...
Thanks for the review of this model! I have been looking at these for a while now, and there aren't many reviews of it. I will definitely keep it on my list. It seems like a versatile guitar and I like the offset shape.
To keep the trem in tune try the trem training technique. It worked for me. You pull all the way up on the trem arm until it hits the stops. Then tune the strings. Then play and whammy lightishly on the trem bar followed by pulling up again to the stops. Check tuning and adjust. Whammy lightly again and pull up. Retune. Repeat until it is in tune after pulling up. At this point l am able to do a lot more whammying than I was able to do before using the trem training method, before the guitar goes out of tune. Trem training works pretty good for sure.
Got the same exact model and color and are in the process of converting it to what a traditional Jaguar should be. The pickups sound decent for rock but for the clean stuff we were rather unimpressed so going third party for those. May post a video once the upgrades are performed and might link to your video which has good examples of what the guitar does out of the box. Oh, and the switch tip fell off on ours too. :-P keep up the great work.
The switch knob falls off on my MIM tele all the time. I wrapped a tiny amount of duck tape around the switch itself, then slid the knob over it. Works like a charm!
Called it !! LOL His was fretting out a little though...needed a setup. He needs his basses back before he does something drastic to himself with shotgun LOL
11:53 The bridges on Jaguars and Jazzmasters are notorious for their design issues. They tend to sink and lower themselves into the body ruining the action, even on newer models. But I have never seen what Trogly is showing here, so I guess that’s yet another design problem. This is why I’m only interested in Jaguar and Jazzmaster models with stoptail bridges or Strat style tremolo bridges (like the American Performer Jazzmaster).
A lot of people have had problems keeping those Jazzmaster trems in tune over the years and according to some who have played them way more than i ; its because Leo designed it to be strung with 13s on the high E and the lower string tension of modern light gauge sets throws off the balance of the bridge. (i prefer hardtails myself) If you want to check out a dual humbucker version check out the Lee Renaldo & Thurston Moore signature models.
Bought this guitar in august (a limited shell pink edition) and it's funny that some people consider this cheap. I have saved up for months to buy it and am still excited to finally own a real Fender. Guitar sounds great by the way, especially the neck pickup! Though I had to upgrade it a bit. Installed a Staytrem bridge and got a real bone nut fitted.
When you compare the price to a 2,000 American Pro Jaguar, it is a lot cheaper. When you compare it to a Squire it's not cheap. It's all relative Jeff.
Part of the problem with the Jazzmaster/Jaguar tremolo system is that because the Jazzmaster was originally intended to be a jazz guitar, it was designed for use with jazz gauge 12's and 13's, and if those are used it will apparently stay in tune better.
The switch tip like that always fall off on the MIM. Put a tiny drop of super glue. It’ll break free if u need to take it off. Idk if I missed it but Jaguars have a 24” scale also
I think Balky should take cousin Larry and run on back to Mepose while they still can. It doesnt stay in tune, but I mean come on, what do you want? Everything?
The saddle screw thing seems to be a QA issue they have been having lately. I have two 2019-production Player-series basses, and both have now suffered a collapsed saddle. One did it almost right out of the box - the screw holes were more or less stripped out from the factory. The second failed after nearly a year. Simple swap with a replacement at least.
Had this model earlier this year for a couple of weeks. I like Mexican Fenders and I also like their offset models but this Jag felt just cheap, more like an average Squier than a Fender. The pickuard was super noisy, no matter where you touched it, the static noise just wouldn't go away, even after I had shielded and grounded everything. The neck had sharp fret ends and the tremolo system was a cheaper version of the original, with no spring lock. Like I said - Fender Mexico makes good stuff, that's why I was disappointed. What liked about this Jag were pickups, which sounded good, even the split humbucker.
trolgy just saying the reason you might be having trouble with offset guitars like that one is that many of need shims in the neck at about .5-1.0 inches to make it play the best
@@thehowlingjoker i know they did that on some models but i’m not 100% if they do that on player models. the stuff he was saying about the trem usually comes with not having enough angle but i could be wrong
Lubricating the saddles is 100% the wrong thing to do on offsets with the rocking bridge. That will make the tuning LESS stable. Look to the nut slots, neck angle and sufficient bridge height for tuning stability.
I have this guitar in black and it's awesome, but I had the same issue with the barrel switch tip, except mine didn't even come with the switch tip. Fender completely forgot it at the factory. And when I tried to put one on from a telecaster, it doesn't stay on, so it seems like there's just an issue with the sizing of the little metal part of the switch where the tip goes on. I'm going to try some loctite. It's strange though, because I think it's just a standard size telecaster 3-way switch, right? So why don't the plastic tips fit?
To me, it sort of just looks like a jazzmaster with some different pickups. Because the jaguar is the jaguar due to the pickups and all the switch choices. Because the body shape is the same on both guitars. Still looks like a nice guitar though. I just bought a player plus in Olympic pearl. It's freaking awesome
I don't know if this was mentioned, I didn't hear it, but the scale length is 24", so it good for people with small hands, not so desirably for regular guys.
Can you/have you done the vinter road worn teles ? Im pretty sure the wear is uniformed but would be kool to see a video of the daphne blue and white tele
Sweet licks, Trogly! I like the sound of that guitar much more than I thought I would. Ditch the hot pickups for some Lindy Fralin pickups with low output, and it will REALLY sing....
I was so confused......cool collab! I’m surprised you didn’t mention the huge chip of paint missing which you can clearly see at 4:09. I get 99% of them won’t have this but you mentioned all the other issues....

I find it very hard to believe Trogly didn't know what the "Davie504 guitar" was before looking it up online.
Nice to hear your chops, Trogs! Cool split screen jam!
Two of my faves. Trogly, and Dave. Cool job.
People commenting "Woah cant believe he did a collab with davie " not realizing trogly spliced in davie

All the foam, all of it!
... breaks out a spray foam can

Fantastic intro Trogly! Absolutely awesome!!!!
They took away my favorite part of the jaguar, The weird metal panels.
I feel the exact opposite way. I didn't really like them and I'd rather get this because it doesn't have them
Exactly, that’s the one thing stopping me from loving it.
there is a guy online who makes them.I ordered them and had them put on by a pro.

That Jag is beautiful!! And you actually pronounce it Jaguar instead of Jagwire or Jagwar which I have heard so many (american) people do, kudos!!
I love my jaguar HH special. I agree, taking it apart and putting it back together is very tedious.
Hot damn! Nice solo, Trog!
Fun seeing Davie504 on your Channel. The neck looked like a toothpick with his long fingers on it. Thanks
That was some great sentence mixing at the start

This is like that Power Rangers/TMNT Episode.
I wasn't expecting this, but thank you.
If you’re gonna steal, steal from the best! Nice little Stevie T joint in there
The allen bridge screws on the saddles are vibrating and need to be set at equal pressure. I think. Maybe someone in the comments section knows more
No you got it right, one might be “floating” a bit above the bridge plate, it’s an easy fix.
