This song was sang to me as a child, I was convinced that it was written for me as my name is Eileen. Still love to hear it.

Top class work. They were mighty women, to sing this one. It is great to hear an old Irish song, dug up and revived. Their voices blended in well.
This is the true heart of Irish people. A bunch of people sharing their talents in routine. Effortless harmony.
Pure beauty by all means!!!
Isn't it similar to ''The star of the county down''?
Greetings from Hellas!
The upshot of the ruction....

We call them Hups here
Eileen Og and that the darling's name is.
And through the Barony her features the were famous,
If we loved her then who was there to blame us,
For wasn't she the pride of Petravore.
But her beauty made us all look so shy,
Not a man could look her in the eye
Boys, O boys, sure that's the reason why,
We're in mourning for the pride of Petravore.
Eileen Og my heart is growin grey,
Ever since the day you wandered far away
Eileen Og there's good fish in the sea,
But htere's none of them like the pride of Petravore.
Friday at the fair of Ballintubber,
Eileen met McGrath the cattle jobber
I'd like to set me mark upon the robber
For he stole away the pride of Petravore
He never seemed to see the girl at all
Even when she ogled him from underneath her shawl
Looking big and masterfull when she was looking small
Most provoking for the pride of Petravore
Eileen Og my heart is growin grey,
Ever since the day you wandered far away
Eileen Og there's good fish in the sea,
But there's none of them like the pride of Petravore.
So it went as it was in the beginning,
Eileen Og was bent upon the winning
Big McGrath contentedly was grinning,
Being courted by the pride of Petravore
Says he I know a girl thet could knock you into fits
As that Eileen nearly lost her wits,
The upshot of the ruction was that now the robber sits
With his arm around the pride of Petravore
Eileen Og my heart is growin grey,
Ever since the day you wandered far away
Eileen Og there's good fish in the sea,
But there's none of them like the pride of Petravore.
Boys, Oh boys! With faith is hard to grapple
Of my eye 'tis eileen was the apple,
Now to see her walking to the chapel
With the hardest featured man in Petravore
Now boys this is all I have to say,
When you do your courting make no display
If you want them to run after you just walk the other way
For they're mostly like the pride of Petravore.
Eileen Og my heart is growin grey,
Ever since the day you wandered far away
Eileen Og there's good fish in the sea,
But there's none of them like the pride of Petravore.

brilliant
Wish I had been in that pub that day ,,,,,,braw,,,,,
Fab job.
We had an old 78rpm disc of this song back in the 50s. I used to play it and play it. It was an Irish gentleman, with piano accompaniment. Haven't found him on youtube so far but on the B-side was a whistful ditty called 'Sing Sweet Nightingale'. Gorgeous. I loved Jordan and Shanley's treatment nonetheless. They had a verse that I didn't previously know from the old recording. Mind you it was a 78.
I might br wrong about the piano accompaniment - possibly small orchestra.
Fabtastic song
great fair play from derry
WOW!
Nice One
Fuck man,it is pure hapiness!! that's my fav' version with Liz Knowles acoustic!!! Cheers!!
Whow!
Very amazing ! Which key is that ? I know the Dubliners version in D-Minor but I think this is different ?
brawo dziewczyny :)
are you fucking kidding me? These two Celtic women are beyond the Pale.
This is such a good song and so wonderfully performed in what looks like an ideal setting that I went off to find the lyrics and chord-tabs. Now I'm strumming too, although mine is a more an anti-musical version. Thanks for posting the video.

Το ακούω από το πρωΐ και δεν το χορταίνω το τραγούδι,if someone can help me from when this song start to hearing?
15-16-17 century?
Cant beat that ..can you ! the best girls for that number... great rendition of a great song.
Worum geht's i diesem Lied?
The pride of inchicore 😂😂😂
Cathy Jordan though
My bf wants me to try and learn this song. And I love it.. Is there anyway to see it with onscreen lyrics(I don't have a real computer)
*Mags* my mum used to sing that song to me many years ago john

That's not the same Shane McGowan of Pogues /Popes fame is it? It sure doesn't look like any other pictures I've seen of him. How old is this performance anyway? Great music tho!
+VoVids No, he isn't the Pouges' singer, of course! Anyway, this McGowan is a great guitar player!
Lol. Not the same. David Munnelly, spectacular accordion player did a lot with the non-pogues Shane McGowan. He's a great guitar player
If it was Shane from the Pogues their would be 5 empty bottles on the table and he would be under the table...
Unavoidable song
I am afraid Eleanor had to play second fiddle here, good on ya Cathy.
No. It was a celebration. At that day was Cathy's birthday.
Ok
No words. I have no words to explain the sorrow I feel watching these two lassies sing thus knowing the fate their offspring will suffer in modern day Irealnd.
Ah get up the yard outta that.
OH SHOOT that Shane
Two legendary Irish folk singers belting out Eileen Og in a pub some place is great to watch, but they don't really do it justice. Brendan O'Dowda recorded the definitive version of this Percy French song. It's a pity the girls didn't follow his version more closely; they sing it way too fast and without feeling; but then it's probably much better coming from a guy than a gal, it's not really a song for women to sing.
This is called Pride of Petravore
