That music from the party line commercial reminded me of music in a commercial for some kind of kids product. That Freddy's Nightmares episode was a rare instance of Freddy actually being involved.
Hershey’s Chocolate- Seeing Betty Boop in a chocolate commercial like this one adds to the charm of it, I believe. Jiffy Pop- I remember buying a stovetop version of this popcorn product. True, it was more work than microwave popcorn, but it definitely was better and it was fun watching the foil wrapping inflate as the popcorn popped.
I bet when they made the original Children of the Corn, they had no idea it would become an unwanted franchise that somehow has managed to run for 40 years, with movies still being made today.
I literally love tales from the Darkside! I remember watching it every Saturday nights at 10:30 PM on WXON channel 20 in Detroit Michigan. It came on right after MONSTERS to which it came on at 10 PM And after tales from the Darkside, they showed Friday the 13th: the series at 11 PM. That was really good television back then!
I miss horror anthology shows of the 80s! Tales from the Darkside was one of the best (on Saturday nights on WPIX-11 New York) as well as Freddy's Nightmares!
@03:12 I liked Stephen King's idea of having the children of the corn face off vs the Predator! It also lends itself to other matchups like Jason, M.Myers, and Freddy vs Children of the 🌽
Children Of The Corn-that recent"reboot" was unnecesssary 1-976-BEST-the best party line for catfishers 😆 Freddy's Nightmares-the disclaimer that one of my state's old local stations did when it aired this was scary:"Freddy's Nightmares contains scenes which may be TOO intense for younger viewers.Viewer discretion...IS advised." Followed by Freddy stepping into the frame saying"Sleep tight!!!" Tales From The Darkside End Credits-best announcer sign-off ever
First episode was a (very lame) attempt at telling the origin of Freddy (where he’s released from prison and burned alive). It leaves out all the characters from the films and creates a new and less effective police officer leading the vengeful mob. In fact, the episode advertised here is a follow-up to that pilot; these twins are the daughters of the officer Freddy killed in that episode.
As a kid i couldn't help calling these (800)-(900) numbers,,like the muppet babies and others,,,i would get into so much trouble when the phone bill came,,,i remember my mom hiding the phone at night😂
Wow, Freddy’s Nightmares looks like such 80s cheese, it’s unbelievable. But, it’s not surprising. This is the time period when Freddy was rapping with the Fat Boys and being merchandised to kids.
@optigrabbingit I have a recording of the Rankin-Bass special "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" recorded in late November/early December of 1990 on CBS that I'll be posting in a few weeks and I haven't been able to date what day it aired that year. Could you help me?
@@80sCommercialVault I found an LA Times article from Dec 1990 stating that due to low ratings, the special may have been "forced into syndication or cable channels". I did find several syndicated airings (listed as "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"). Do you know what station aired it?
It seems to have aired on WJBK Channel 2 in Detroit, it was a CBS affiliate back then. There is a station ID prior to the special so I can only assume it aired on Channel 2. There were no network promos aired during it so syndication does seem likely.
The Tales From The Darkside intro is God level status for nostalgic television.🏆
The opening to Tales from the Darkside was the greatest as a kid!
Tales from the Darkside was pretty decent, but Tales from the Crypt was always my favorite horror anthology show.
I remember being sick and catching the episode of tales from the Darkside called “levitation” back when I was a kid… scared me to absolute death
Brought to you by the man himself, George Romero.

The era of commercials and films from 88-93 has this tone that I love. Damn good era.
I watched The 7th Sign at the theater and it became one of my favorite apocalyptic movies ever.
Props to you after all these years doing it! Been with ya since 2018. No filler all beef

The seventh sign stars Demi Moore btw! I remember party lines were there before chat rooms or social media. Good times.
lol I never seen the Elm Street tv show but it makes Freddy look like someone's boyfriend in a teen drama.

Tales From The Darkside is peak creepy. I don't think it has been surpassed.
Never knew there was a Nightmare on Elm Street TV series.

The Aziza eye art girl is adorable. I wonder what she's up to these days?
I'm the sort of person who notices that the music in the 1-976-BEST commericial is the same used in that Flexi-Blox (I think I misspelled that?) ad.

This "Tales from the Darkside" episode, "Black Widows," aired on KPDX at midnight on Monday, 11/14/88 (late night Sunday).
Thanks
For some reason on Kcop in Los Angeles we always saw it during the day on sundays. So creepy but I loved it.
