Pung is a drum from Manipur, northeast corner state of India, Dance with drum is called pung cholom. in this tour we start traveling from India (Manipur, Delhi) to Peru, Colombia and Venezuela
.About Pung ( Manipuri drum).
Pung is a drum from northeast India corner state of Manipur. This association is so strong that it has come to be known as Manipuri Mridang, it is held in very high esteem and is very much use in the Manipuri style of dance, there are even a whole dance form based upon it known as Pung Cholom ( drum with dance).
No one knows how long this drum has been inexistence it is said that it was introduced in to the area by king Khuwai Tompok in the year of 154 A D.
Introduced the Pung having only one beating face since then it has developed to the present form of Meitei Pung with two beating face. This Pung has become a part and parcel of Natasankritan which is an importance part of Manipuri cultural.

Its two side are two eyes of Krsna. Two rings (Khudop) are bangles of krsna -right side of considered to be Parvati and left side is Siva. The black colour (khe) applied on the wood is the dark complexion of krsna, the red strap (Thangnmari) is Navagunjama.
