Bridge made up of flatbed trailers keeps NC, TN supply chain alive

  • The winding and damaged roads on the mountain near Elk Park have made travel by regular cars and trucks almost impossible.
That’s why neighbors are using ATVs, or side-by-sides, to get from their homes to their community aid station that sits on top of the mountain.
They’re also using them to deliver supplies to those who need help in the neighboring towns of Butler and Elk Mills in Tennessee, about 15 minutes away by ATV.

They have made these for years where I live.. folks buy property need a bridge, buy old cheap flatbed..drop it in place with some anchorage and presto. I have also seen flatbed train cars, but those folks were kinda snooty :)

Creativity. Git 'er done!!!! This is the America I love. Get through...no matter what it takes. we're right on the virginia side of 64.; absolutely blocked for the foreseeable future. We're three hours north. Spoke to two groups of people in town here yesterday and they are driving down with carloads taking alternate routes. Those are 4 wheel drive /off roading vehicles because issues are expected. Strong, young people. Our neighborhood here is not so unlike those affected...... but at a higher elevation. Retired people, disabled, trailers, old wooden houses on a mountainside with few routes in, or out. Creeks that are usually stable, until you dump a billion gallons of water into them. People are raising animals and growing crops out of necessity; and don't easily abandon their property. what people aren't heavily affected are scraping together what they can spare. Primary stuff; water and food(including produce); and secondary stuff...blankets, clothing, kitchen items, lumber for rebuilding. Everyone has one or two things they can add; though many are on social security and disability. we need to get some kind of vehicular "bucket brigade" to move goods coming from farther away. Can't wait for the government to set it up, wE have to get in there! NO ONE can afford to pay "administrative costs" to agencies. They're going to need more than $750 to come BACK from this. Loose cattle/horses/etc. can be fostered until a return is possible; but they need to be moved from the site if there is no farm to return TO. Once it's stabilized a bit.....livestock. At LEAST chickens and goats. They will produce food the fastest. Spring: they're going to need seeds, saplings....we're not there yet but we have to have an ONGOING plan to get them back to function. The people who relied on crops and livestock are destitute for the winter. That kind of stuff is on us now. Come on now, we have always prided ourself on our "team spirit" Let's put that to USE.

@brad238899 yeah, there to tell locals they'll get arrested if they help and then funneling the money to illegal immigrants. The government doesn't do 1/10th of what it should do when a disaster like this happens. Sorry you're so entrenched in politics you refuse to call out your government overlords when they turn their back on the American people. Not sure if it's because they haven't had a disaster for awhile but things take time, people forget that theyre supposed to have a few weeks of supplies stocked up for storms ir other emergencies. My brother has a month's worth of food and enough weapons and ammo for a small army for six months. That is more particularly my point. ABSOLUTELY prep for disasters that are common for your region. Probaby A (one) gun. Store things that will be useful in a emergency. Yes, gun-approving, prep approving democrat. we are NOT divided by a single line. We have so MUCH in common it's ridiculous. I am so proud to see people out helping people REGARDLESS of whose sign is on the lawn. we can deal with the political discussion AFTER everyone is helped. Right now? Just be a good human being. Wow, what stupidity. In the first place no matter how prepared you are there are still things out of your control. Water flowing down mountain side, landslides, 20 inches of rain are just a few.
Why have silly cat fights over ignorant petty stuff. Are you children or grownups……………makes me wonder.
