The very first video game I ever played was Space Invaders, in the "pink store", which was our local booze/grocery store that was painted pink. It was a black and white display with colored strips of plastic taped across it to give the different ranks of aliens colors as they moved down. It was amazing how you'd move the joysticks and the things on the screen responded instantly, as up until then TV screens only showed you things and didn't respond to anything you did.
The thing about Makoto... he's a blank slate. He's into whatever girls you would be into, because he's intentionally written to be a passive personality so you can choose whatever actions you want and not feel like it's out of character. I hated the anime series for P3, because it gave him a different slant on his personality than I had already gotten used to (more apathetic than stoic). So, date whomever you like, and play the character however you want to feel consistent with it. Or date everyone and enjoy the "consequences". :)
The monad doors are also the best way to get crafting resources, and each time you get to a new block of Tartar Sauce, you get the next higher tier of equipment. Never good to skip them on your first time through that area.... if you're grinding later, it's fine.
Oh, you mentioned the fortune teller letting you boost your social links in P5. In P3, you use the "draw a fortune" box at the shrine during the day to do that. It becomes more useful when you have days where nobody is available or are maxxed out, so you can catch up on the others.
Remember... when you're checking your list of abilities, in this game it's not "physical". Slash, Pierce, and Strike are different stats, and you want to have a persona with each. Your character has slash as their auto-attack, but you may need the other two even if you can't use another party member.
If you want to strengthen up a persona you don't use... that's what skill cards are for. Invest in the Growth skill cards and give them to people who are benched. Unlike Junpei, they will gain XP even if you don't use them. ;)
