Your Phil stories are the best! Unfortunately kids these days don't have or won't have stories like this since all they seem to do is sit in the house and play video games
I love how calm and relaxed your videos are... helps me to remember that I also need to slow down and relax. I love that. Thanks. Phil sounds like a real trouble-maker. Guess he got his reward... haha Too funny. Wonder if he still has issues from that. :) Beach balls... crying. I will have to smoke a few bowls of fine tobacco just to get rid of that image... :) Cheers.
This is why I like watching everyones vids. I am not feeling to good tonight and listening to your story just made me laugh and think about my childhood friend and some of the crazy things we used to get into. Thanks for sharing. --Kyle
Memory can work in mysterious ways. To me, this sounded to me like a Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn adventure set in the 60's. Thanks for sharing, I truly enjoy these nostalgic videos.
Oh they certainly do seem magical, especially if you can remember the kind of imagination you had back then. Anything seemed possible, and we had fun trying to reach totally unobtainable goals.
Ha, ha! Loved this! Laughed so hard. We all have these memories. Reminds me of the time my neighbor DeWitt and I...well that's another story. It really would be grand to see these fellows from so long ago and see if they remember the stories the way we do. Thanks.
Hello John. Great video, a classic Matches vid, love it. That pipe is a beauty, always been fond of Bing Crosby. His legend lives on in the music and pipe. Great stories, funny, I have had some of the same experiences. Had a girl pull down my pants and smack my ass for calling her names. LOL Cheers Mark
OMG that was funny...I remember the milk man as well...and my mom saying go out and play...you just dont see that today...Great story about Phil and the girls hehehe Thx for sharing Bob
As soon as you said Phil was going to get on the milk truck, I knew it was going to end in a different way then he had planned! As for the girls, I was laughing so hard I had to stop the vid at boxer shorts, I was just dieing! Good times good times with Phil!
John I enjoy so many of your stories and can relate to many of them. Hands down my favorite RUclips Pipe smoker. I hope you make videos for a long time!
Jeeze Vinnie, you must be on a Matches Marathon LOL. I have limited snippets left of Phil besides what I told already, but nothing to weave into a story.
@pipeheadOR The Bings come with the usual balsa filters. I've tried smoking with and without and I don't find enough of a difference to be bothered with them.
@backcountrypipe LOL, yeah, I didn't want to get into it, but there's a slight thrill at age 7 being mauled by a ten year old girl. Regarding the pipe (still laughing), I liked the first smooth Bings Favorite so much, I went back to the shop and got a rusticated one.
You know, I've never thought about this before, but I believe my teen years could have been trouble had he been around. Jeeze, thanks for the nightmarish thought LOL.
Wow! Phil just didnt learn! hahahahaha I loved those stories John! Thanks for sharing hahahahahaha Great looking Sav Bing. My favorite pipe is my Sav Qandale, but I'd like to have a Bing one day. Does it take the 6mm filter???
@Matches860 I remember when I was a kid...pro wrestling was really big with all of us neighborhood kids...so we used to pretend to be wrestlers and pound the crap out of each other in an empty lot near where we lived....lol good times Cheers Bob
Just now seeing this vid... I'm laughing so loud my two teenage daughters came running in from the other room. I can't even explain to them why I was laughing. I had a knuckle head friend like that named Eric and he caused my mom to come up to the middle school I attended and spank me in front of my peers. The girl I had a crush on just said forvet about it and I was humbled all fhe way until I went off to college...
@raindog951 Hmmmm, one of them moved about the same time he did. The other one became a babysitter in the neighborhood...I still avoided her years later.
By the time you're fifty and telling your stories, younger people will be telling you the same thing I'm sure. It was interesting though, to find things to keep yourself busy back then...two kids and a wheel barrel for example, that could be all day fun, with some trouble thrown in.
@smokingpipeliner I've been lucky enough to link up with a few after all these years. One reminded me of many fun times...the other won't have anything to do with me LOL.
John.. I have to tell you not only did I absolutely laugh my ass off on all those videos but certainly it brings one back to one's childhood and I guess we all had a friend like Phil I certainly did I made the connection and I laughed my ass off thanks I needed it have a good week I'll be looking for you on Friday by the way if you get a chance to go to my RUclips page I made a video about restoring an old pipe was seeing if you had any advice if you can see it and I was curious the Friday Savinelli is one good-looking pump what kind is it
"They were using him like a jackhammer .." LOL!
Just hearing "hey RUclips, Matches 860" still gives me a warm feeling. RIP John you meant a lot to a lot of people.
It’s like listening to a true-to-life Mark Twain story.
👍
Your Phil stories are the best! Unfortunately kids these days don't have or won't have stories like this since all they seem to do is sit in the house and play video games
I think about that often, and I guess each generation grows up different and believes their way was best. They are fond memories however.
hahahahahaa. phil sounds like the life of a movie. there's one in every crew. ahha. awesome. thanks for telling. hope you had a great weekend.
Dave

Nice Story - after listening to it I started to think about my younger days as a kid..thanks for that Martyn
I'm guessing Phil had a rough life LOL. Thanks for watching Phil!

That story was so funny. I loved it. keep those stories and vids coming.... Keep the pipes smoking.
James
Hello John.
Great video, a classic Matches vid, love it.

Thanks for sharing those stories, very much enjoyed that. I often wonder about a couple of childhood friends myself that moved away.
Tade

Yup. Tomorrow I'm breaking out the boxers with the tigers on them. =)
Listening to your wonderful stories and sharing a pipe with you always makes for an enjoyable evening. Thank you.
sweet memorys - lol - very nice story, john. gives me a huge smile in the morning.
Thanks for sharing. Childhood adventures, even the ones where you end up crying, set in the 50's and 60's seem magical nowadays.
Great story! Good thing old Phil moved. Sounds like he liked getting into trouble! lol
Awesome story, you were hiding in the bushes like a "yellow belly" lol! I would have done the same thing! lol
Matches, you wonderful story teller!
Thanks for the entertainment as always.
Many thanks! That was another great one. RIP
Awe, the good old days! Great Stories, John!
John, even though you're no longer around you still bust me up! 🤣
Very entertaining story. My name is Phil, just kidding. I bet Phil has at least a couple of stories about you. Lol.. Jay
My friend, beautiful pipe tobaccos; smoking.
The friend, of Argentine
Phil sounds like quite the ladies man LOL Thanks for sharing
Another great story John.
I have a couple more "Phil" stories to tell some time. He certainly was a character!
John I enjoy so many of your stories and can relate to many of them. Hands down my favorite RUclips Pipe smoker. I hope you make videos for a long time!
+Greg smith Thank you Greg! I'm hoping to keep going for a while to come!
@Knightdor Late 50's, early 60's we were influenced by cowboys & WWII, so it was stick horses one day, and cap guns the next LOL.
@vrich3733 I pretty much figured out that Phil didn't have both oars in the water, so I kinda stayed in the background when the crap hit the fan.
@GAbriarman I wasn't able to upload normally till I found a work around, YT has some issues.
Great vid, great story Matches. Thanks.
I know you were really young when Phil moved, but, you GOTTA try and remember some more Phil stories!!!
Jeeze Vinnie, you must be on a Matches Marathon LOL. I have limited snippets left of Phil besides what I told already, but nothing to weave into a story.
Well, Padre', not everyday was good...but everyday was interesting!
@paul10115 Thanks for watching Paul!
@pipeheadOR The Bings come with the usual balsa filters. I've tried smoking with and without and I don't find enough of a difference to be bothered with them.
@Thunderbirdpipes Many thanks, it was fun to relive it also.
Phil was a bad influence....lol They are life lessons at that age and you didn't even know it. Your a great story teller.
@SMOKERSOFCIGARSPIPES Thanks for dropping by my friend!
@JogiExperience Thanks Jogi! Have a great week!
@patrickthepipe Now thats the smartest remark I've heard in quite a while!
you inspire 860 matches and it inspires me to read books but not necessarily smoking a pipe but thank you for your storys
Great stories. Maybe Phil is on facebook?
LOL, Phils mouth was always open, he drooled, and had a lisp. Parents in the neighborhood hated him LOL. John-John sounds just like him!
Fub stories those memories make. Dramatic at the time I bet.
You know, I've never thought about this before, but I believe my teen years could have been trouble had he been around. Jeeze, thanks for the nightmarish thought LOL.
@TheEltopian This is very true Dale, perhaps a CEO of a large corporation!
@Sm0kinMo My pleasure! Hope all is well Mo!
Wow! Phil just didnt learn! hahahahaha I loved those stories John! Thanks for sharing hahahahahaha Great looking Sav Bing. My favorite pipe is my Sav Qandale, but I'd like to have a Bing one day. Does it take the 6mm filter???
@Zappano23Pipe Nothing like starting the day with a smile! Take care my friend!
@NW7US I may need to do a follow up video. Phils home life was pretty messed up...I'm sure I only knew a part of that whole scene.
Who knows, Phil might be in the Diplomatic Corps now. LOL
That was funny I got a kick out of that . Thanks.
Dan P Thanks for watching Dan!
@BriarFiend Thanks man! :-)
Hahahaha great story.
I think you need to put these stories in an Audio Book.
This is the audio book LOL (audio & visual).
@Matches860 I remember when I was a kid...pro wrestling was really big with all of us neighborhood kids...so we used to pretend to be wrestlers and pound the crap out of each other in an empty lot near where we lived....lol good times
Cheers
Bob
You remind me so much of my uncle.
@astroman2112 Yep, that was me...always part of the problem but usually not a recipient of the outcome. Thanks for watching James!
I'll hope that is a good thing!
There was a "Phil" in everyone's life I think!
I love it...beat up by a couple of teenage girls!!! Hilarious. I hope Phil learned not to mess with tough women! LOL
Phil
@raindog951 Hmmmm, one of them moved about the same time he did. The other one became a babysitter in the neighborhood...I still avoided her years later.
My goodness, Matches. You were a rascal.
@kb1nyd Everything with Phil ended in disaster. Luckily, I was able to avoid the high risk stuff.
@SignoreGiacomo So glad you were able to join me! Hope all is well!
@OTooleRules Weren't we all at that age?
@NorwegianFellah LOL, I better tell these stories while I can remember them!
@soulmirrors Yes Dave, Phil was Dennis the Menace of my neighborhood...but, you have to play with who's available at the time! Take it easy!
@pipesmoker1969 Wow! Phil and I only dreamed of pinching their behinds! You devil you! LOL
@MrSmokeGuy Finding out your best friend wears boxer shorts is pretty shocking indeed!
@GhostlySmoker It's equally soothing to tell the stories Kyle!
Phil isn’t on Facebook? He could be a guest on Friday Night Live if you could find him.
Phil faded away.
@dieseldragontamer LOL, both these girls were tomboys, I was no fool!
lmao!! Good stories.
@DailyPuffer We were more like the "Our Gang" kids. Lots of trouble and crying, but good times just the same.
By the time you're fifty and telling your stories, younger people will be telling you the same thing I'm sure. It was interesting though, to find things to keep yourself busy back then...two kids and a wheel barrel for example, that could be all day fun, with some trouble thrown in.
@LightYerPipe It's a wonder we made it through alive 'eh Mate?
The earth will take care of itself I'm sure. Meanwhile, we all to need enjoy life as much as possible. Have a great rest of the week!
@smokingpipeliner I've been lucky enough to link up with a few after all these years. One reminded me of many fun times...the other won't have anything to do with me LOL.
@Matches860 Never had a stick horse but I remember the cap guns
I CRIED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THAT VIDEO.
Oh it is! Most definitely
@Knightdor Entertainment back then was totally outside the house, and you had to create it usually...good times!
@emile3363 That makes it worthwhile then...I tried to imagine someone sitting with me, enjoying a smoke!
I put in the names of lost friends a couple times a year, but haven't had any luck as yet. Even tried his two sisters!
@dafarce I've done a number of searches and Phil is nowhere to be found...could be in prison for stealing a milk truck or something.
@Matches860
My friend, thank you; by reply my message.
The friend, of Argentine.
Yes, Phil has some dirt on me for sure!
I knew I would pay if I watched this one .....
+Pipes And kayaks These are my favorite recollections of Phil...nothing good ever came out of his shenanigans.
John.. I have to tell you not only did I absolutely laugh my ass off on all those videos but certainly it brings one back to one's childhood and I guess we all had a friend like Phil I certainly did I made the connection and I laughed my ass off thanks I needed it have a good week I'll be looking for you on Friday by the way if you get a chance to go to my RUclips page I made a video about restoring an old pipe was seeing if you had any advice if you can see it and I was curious the Friday Savinelli is one good-looking pump what kind is it
+Pipes And kayaks Will check out your vid for sure!
Thanks brother
Do you still speak to phill today
No, Phil moved away around 1963 or 4. That was the end of that.
@@Matches860 oh we all have that friend that moves away
@@tommillard4193 Yeah, it was weird, I knew he was leaving but the date wasn't really set. Next thing I knew, he was gone.
Don't you ever see phil now ?
Phil moved around 1963 or 4. Never heard from him after and have searched him online...he's gone.
It's a shame you cant find him and have a catch up.
I meant Fun not fub
