    Very nice job, brother. SWEET BB too. I'm a retired Master Harley Davidson Tech that's gotten rid of all my project cars and truck and bikes, and now I'm bored. I do believe my next project is build a monster BB Chev AND a run stand. But just to add, and I know this comment is coming 7 years late, but this is still one of the nicest home built engine test stands on youtube... nice job.

      Thank you. I'm not quite retired yet. Soon. I still have my bike and my project cars. I have an old 454 setting in the corner waiting to be rebuilt. It will be one of my retirement projects. Maybe to put in a car for my grandson. But then again, maybe not. I remember when I was 16 and got my first Chevelle. I drove crazy fast all the time.

    I used standard 2" Sunpro gauges. I connected them the same as if they were in a car - oil pressure to the oil port near the oil filter, temp to the temp sending port in the side of the head, voltmeter a positive battery connection. and the tach to the tach connection on the HEI distributer.

    good looking stand and sounding engine for some strange reason what came to my mind was something i had read many years ago about a article on flying the old Spitfire Airplanes the pilots said the engine had so much tourque to them that over revving them on take off could cause the plane to flip upside down before you started the motor that thought came to mind ? very nice fabrication on the stand and the welds ive been thinking of making one for Marine Inboard engines as boating is one of my hobbies i would like the stand to be capable of being able to roll a motor around a shop floor for storage purposes as well although many Marine motors with all the accessories can weigh over 800 lbs ive found that in the past a small block Chevy motor will straddle the bucks of a jet ski trailer quite well and thats how ive moved a few of those in the past

    • @roscoe445
      @roscoe445  4 года назад

      Craig, when I first designed this stand, I was worried about engines with huge torque flipping the stand over. So I designed the stand with wheels that extended 12" out each side for a wider base. Turns out it was unnecessary. As well balanced engine runs smooth. I never extend the wheels when running an engine on the stand.

Having a little trouble following the blueprints versus if you had a step by step build of the stand on video instead of pic by pic. I'm capable of the build by learn better by example. Getting ready to start assembly but wondered if you have any other instructional vids on this build. I bought this mainly because it's easily stored after disassembly. Thanks

    Roscoe, do you have a standard engine hoist and if so did it clear under your stand? I've seen a lot of builds and people forget that very important measurement. The height of the legs on the engine hoist, they have to slide under the stand. I like yours and am starting mine this week.

    • @roscoe445
      @roscoe445  4 года назад +1

      Yes, I have a standard engine hoist. My plans call for a 5" shop wheel, which will give you a 6" clearance from floor to bottom of frame, which is enough for a standard engine crane to roll under.

    Thanks.

    • @russgreen3624
      @russgreen3624 4 года назад +1

      No. Break-in can be done on the stand. That is exactly what this stand is build for. So you can break the engine in and tune it before putting it in your car. I have broke in all of my engines on this stand. Fire it up, set the timing and bring it up to 2000 rpm for twenty or so minutes to break in the cam and seat the rings. After the break-in, you can fine tune the timing and carb adjustments. Breaking the engine in on the stand is much easier and you don't have to pull it back out of the car if something is not right. I've never broke in a freshly rebuilt engine in my vehicle.

    Im interested in buying the plans, but i would like to know what tools do you need to build it?

    • @roscoe445
      @roscoe445  5 лет назад

      You will need the following tools:
      either a reciprocating saw or a chop saw to cut the steel (unless you have your steel supplier cut it for you).
      drill, preferably a drill press capable of drilling 3/8" holes in steel
      welder - The first stand I built was with my Lincoln 110v welder with flux-core wire. A MIG set-up on your welder will produce much cleaner welds. welding clamps and basic welding tools
      hand grinder or files to clean up sharp edges of cut steel
      a basic set of wrenches and hand tools
      This stand can be built in one weekend. The most recent stand I built, I ordered the steel pre-cut (expensive!). It took me one Saturday to drill the required holes and weld it up. Took the parts to be powder coated. When I got them back, it only took me a couple hours to assemble it.
