As a hearing person who was entering a hearing and deaf relationship I have to say that I definitely used your ASL covers as my main way of learning ASL whenever my deaf partner wasnt around. I find it easier to memorize signs when I connect them to my favorite music, like how people memorize song lyrics quickly. Even my deaf partner enjoys watching your covers occasionally. So thanks, I dont think we would be able to communicate like we can now if I hadnt had your videos to get me started.

Same here. I frequently look up ASL covers of songs because not only are you learning the words but you also get some grammar structure as well. One of my favorite ways to practice is to sign along to songs in church.

I miss "The Daily Sign"! So much of the Deaf and HoH community supported you! You helped so many people feel courage to be themselves. You helped parents with deaf/HoH children and so many others. What that small group of people did to you was wrong. They are free to feel what they feel, but you are free to express yourself on here. They took something kind and pure and destroyed it by bullying you into stopping. You may not have been using ASL (American Sign Language), but your Stylized "dance-signing" made for fun videos with great music and sometimes an awesome cosplay. True it was more PSE (Pidgin Sign English) or SEE (Signed Exact English), but that doesn't invalidate your videos! Those are legitimate methods of communication that MANY people use for various reasons. Some people in the Deaf/HoH community think that if you aren't Deaf/HoH, then you have no right to teach others the language, or use it in a manner that people may use as a tool of learning. This is something that is pretty split in the community. Some think it is a language belonging to the Deaf/HoH and should only be taught by those within that category. Others feel we should let as many people as possible use and teach this language so it's more accessible and widely known. It feels like hindered progress when someone like you is censored because you aren't Deaf/HoH. You should share sign with the world in song and dance if you enjoy it. I'm not, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, but I have a different disability and need ASL to communicate and I have to say it feels isolating to be in a store or anywhere outside my home without my husband (he learned ASL to communicate with me). Your videos were little rays of light and those people attacking you snuffed out that light. It's horrible. I'm sorry for the rant, I just miss the videos and feel terribly for how you were treated. You didn't deserve it, but I have to say, thank you for being strong and helping so many with your videos! *BIG HUGS*

i'd also recommend the channel Sign Duo to know a little bit about deaf culture and get familiar with everyday signing .

Libbey, I know you've gotten a lot of negative criticism from the Deaf community so I want to share a little of my story with you because it's all because of you. I saw your "Heathens" PSE cover when I was a junior in high school, and thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I became obsessed with watching your videos and trying to mimic them to learn vocab too. I watched really carefully and actually tried to figure out what all of the signs were and how they fit together. Turns out, I had a real, undiscovered talent for ASL. I ended up majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences and Linguistics at IU because I fell in love with sign language and knew these majors would allow me to continue using it. Now, I'm about to graduate and am starting grad school for audiology in the fall, and was offered a full scholarship to be a Sign Language Graduate Assistant. Because I have a full scholarship, I'll be able to afford going back to school after I get my doctorate so that I can get my interpreting license. You fully set me on this path, because I had no idea of the Deaf world before I saw your videos. So- there was a lot of good that came from you doing your videos. And I owe you a million thank you's. So much love for you and your channel.

I like Bill's videos. Sarah Tubert has a podcast called "What the Deaf" which is cool. My favorite books to learn from are by Mickey Flodin. They use signs in sentences which helps to immerse the reader in the language. There are also several channels that make PSE covers of songs. I find them helpful in recognizing signs and fingerspelling. You are my inspiration to learn signs as well as the patron saint of my mental health! You rock on many levels!

I learned a few signs here and there as a kid in elementary school because my best friend had an adult older brother who was HOH and autistic, I really liked him and learning how to communicate with him to make him smile and laugh because my like thing in life is that I like to take care of people and make them happy, especially the elderly/children and disabled people. As I got older I found out that I'm also autistic and have trouble expressing myself at times and signing helps a lot. I have found places online and friends and their family membersbers who are HOH and deaf. I still can't sign very well but I've been able to help a few individuals in public so I guess I'm not the worst ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think the method of signing to a song is fun. I think it’s only way I could memorise the movements. To have a native/teacher to do that and we can emulate probably is hard to find such so you are our best bet. What I don’t understand is that why in a song, you don’t sign word for word and that it would change the meaning? I am still new in this so thank you if you could explain. I would love to sign a song, so I wish to learn as much and not offending the community.

Gallaudet does free ASL courses I’ve heard but I’m not sure, I took my courses online through Gallaudet but I paid and had them transferred to my college for my foreign language. The teachers I had provided feedback on video signs and they linked mostly to lifeprint and hand speak for examples/corrections for signs I got wrong. One of them specifically warned against signing savvy because they aren’t always accurate.

I know that many people do not know proper English, yet, they still open their mouth and make auditory noise based upon their best, but limited idea of their vocabulary. 2:00 if you point out a better way to say something, it helps further our collective communication. Perhaps the biggest tragedy is the loss of your choreography to do sign lyrics, demonstrating to the world that sign is not exclusive for the deaf, but the hearing also, can use the silent language ... perhaps because it covert and cool and fools the ever present, always active ear of big brother ... or maybe we could all get along and somebody then would offer you a better, more accurate, choreographed musical interpretation of a song like "Heathens" ... school you and all of us, if we can all be one of us too LOL ... you should not be silenced, and your fingers, your body, all part of your expression, like your voice ...
