  • I have been using the separating or layering colors (分层色) from SuperVision Watercolors (视爵水彩) for close to a year and now it is time to do a proper review.
I really love the colours but I wouldn't recommend them. Watch the video to find out why.

Thank you for sharing this information with everyone. I wish I had known about all the problems last year before investing in so many Super Vision colors. I just took my 1 year lightfast test down and 8 of 10 of these tube colors are all badly faded. Really poor lightfastness in the dye additives, especially rose ash and golden green. So many undisclosed ingredients are a real bummer. I'll give you a shout out in my report video, I'd love for more people to see this video so I'll link to it in my next post. I hated how these paints dry in a pan too, making them much less convenient than most pro grade watercolors.

wow one year lightfastness test? was it done on all the supervision colours like the non-separating colours? I recently bought samples of their High Grade Grey watercolour sets and The Great Artists Series watercolour sets.... 😅

@@eurekawanders My full year tests were for the same 20 colors you did here, but I also have secondary tests running that are only a few months in for the 24+2 half pan tin and just started the 24 x8ml tube study as well. I bought way too much of this brand before realizing problems. A lot of their standard watercolors seem aimed at designers, with no real interest in lightfastness. A little like ShinHan with all the fugitive and brightly colored options. I just hope that the 24 tubes re-wet better in pans for convenience and don't fall out in little rock hard chunks or change colors during storage. I am hopeful because they shouldn't have as many of the unusual animal/plant dyes.

@@eurekawanders Posted a link to your video in my community post and in today's video review for SuperVision, as well as a picture telling everyone to check out your video while I was swatching that nasty color change in the Rose Ash tube. Thanks again for bringing much needed honesty and problem awareness to your reviews - I've seen so many misleading reviews from people who only do initial testing/first impressions and I really value your long term studies!

This is kind of mind-blowing. I feel bad for people who purchase these through Amazon and pay a premium. Not worth it at all. So easy to mix with other paints. Thank you for the video, very informative!

Poor lightfastness isn't surprising. They obviously contain dyes, as the named pigments just don't behave the way the paints do. They're mostly very easy to mix with a decent palette though, and with higher lightfastness.

It’s too bad a lot of the bright ones aren’t lightfast. I mainly ended up using Sky Ink and the browns. I am in love with Cathedral Glass and managed to recreate it with Shminke French Ultramarine Blue (pb29), Hansa Yellow Medium (py97) and Hansa Yellow Deep (py65).
