Ideally our wardrobe should be such that we aren't thinking so much about our clothes, so we can get on with our lives! I had an epiphany when, years ago, my daughter gifted me with a financial gift with specific instructions to splurge on myself. I logged onto Eileen Fisher, bought myself a summer capsule and haven't looked back. You are so right about quality, comfort, and authentic style. EF happens to check all the boxes for me. I buy mostly from them now, and second hand stores. Liberation! I always have something to wear, need very little, and rarely think little about my clothes except the joy I get in wearing them.
Yes, such a good point. Getting to a default mode that still allows for inspiration.
I haven't watched yet, but a month ago I lost my curated wardrobe of 50ish years to a forest fire. To rebuild it is daunting. And many items are no longer replaceable. So I am re-starting my wardrobe while mourning the favorite items I'll never see again. I know this community understands.
Ahhhh that is horrible! I'm so sorry to hear that! Then you are truly "starting" from scratch. Well hopefully this video, my past videos and videos coming up will help you. Let us know how it goes and if you have any questions.
So sorry u r going through this time of loss, hope you find new pieces for your new wardrobe that work better for u than what u had
@@EmilyWheatley Thank you. I had really honed my style in the past few years so I think that is helping. I've watched your videos for a couple of years now and have gotten value from them. I'll check in with my journey as it goes.
@@rosemarymaxson7739 Thank you, your sentiment is very kind. I did have some things I was on the fence about. Decision made.
I am so sorry you are going through that! I was once evacuated for a forest fire for 3 weeks - plenty of time to do all of the mental gymnastics - ugh. Our house did not burn down (our property and surroundings did). I got to the place that I was learning to embrace the place of a clean slate, that I was undefined. I was lucky enough to return to my house and belongings, but I will tell you after that I did a severe declutter to GET TO that place of fresh start. But I certainly have so much sympathy for what you are going through. It is a sudden, violent, out of control, heartbreak in so many ways. Sending tons of good energy that you will recover stronger and will reap silver linings as you move forward. I feel for you. I really, really do. A unique experience that very, very few people (including me) can fully empathize with.
The music here is a great touch!
Thank you :-)
I’m retired and thought I was too old to follow your styling. Yet, your videos kept popping up on my feed and I kept watching them, admiring your style, loving some of the pieces for myself, and enjoying the "entertainment" factor of your videos. That’s a lot of hard work on your part!
After viewing this video and hearing your timeless, wise advice, I’m hitting the subscribe button. Oh, and that Quince sweater just might be showing up on my doorstep. Thanks so much!
I love that! Welcome to the channel. And thank you for noting the hard work. I'm excited for you and your Quince sweater to meet ;-)
Oh my goodness. I just love LOVE your video quality. The music, the creativity, the style. Enjoying these new videos so much! And, great lessons learned.
Thank you so much!
Your new approach to filming and telling stories is amazingly creative and appealing - most importantly, you look like you’re enjoying it! Good for you! I look forward to your content and inspiration!
Thank you so much! I really am enjoying it and having a blast!
Love the soundtrack and the drama. Wonderful production.
Thank you so much!
I absolutely loved the classical background music and the artistic editing of this video!
Thank you so much!
In embracing that discipline, I have found freedom." Gold💖
It's inspired by Philosopher Dietrich Bonhoeffer. So can't take full credit :-)
You did your big one with this one. As much as I want to yell “Ride with me slide with me if you feel that!!!” this is epic and gorgeous.
Ahhhh I do miss that intro!! 😘
Ballet with clothes, great music -- the styling of this episode is just stunning, and it totally supports your message.
Thanks so much!!
Style stories as a theme keeps getting better and better! Been fascinating learning new angles and depths to the idea in various vids.
Glad you like them!
Absolutely love your edgy style!! 😊 Please do not change. Your style advice is spot on. Have to say… I really like the sleeveless turtleneck you’re wearing!
Thank you so much for your supportive comment! :-)
I agree, and love that sweater too!
@@EmilyWheatley Can you please share the details of the sleeveless tneck? It's a must-have!
The videography & music - splendid. And the idea of a classic base & adding on one’s own style… hmmm! & fluidity …yes! Great video - interested now in the To Be Continued … Best, Lynne
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are getting pretty fancy with your videos these days...nice! Also noticing your beautiful eyes with the very short hair!
Thank you so much! 😄
Agree, patience is so important. Thanks for that key reminder!
Absolutely!
Classics and classical music! A change from when I first subscribed to your channel. Love all your tips. I need to start over with retirement and weight gain.😢 Love blazers but sometimes too formal. Looking for a non-frumpy sweater alternative.
Blazers are too formal for my lifestyle as well. I have found a structured "sweater jacket" fit the feel without being as formal. JCrew has some gorgeous ones. I usually thrift, but they have a few options out right now in stores
Great advice there. I’m really culling so many of my clothes. I’ve always shopped just buying what I like and as usual have nothing to wear. Your ideas are brilliant at bringing everything together making like much easier. I have only just found my style at almost 65 yrs old. Basically a crisp shirt and jeans mainly. Oh and I do love a black merino wool polo neck. Thanks Emily for showing. X
Wow another great Emily style video BIS BIS BIS 👏❤️
Yay, thank you!
I absolutely love your haircut!
Thank you so much!
Love the single black button on the white shirt.
ugh patience! YES, I have struggled with that for so long. I've ended up replacing many basics that I got in a hurry. Doing better now, but have to stop myself regularly and remind myself that none of this is urgent or "necessary" to survive. I managed to live without the perfect T-shirt until now, I can survive another however long it takes.
I totally get it. The struggle is real!
wow amazing Emily.....I am rediscovering my certain style after many years!!!(never too late!)...great advice patience is a big plus I agree...
Love your new haircut!!!!..you have such delicate facial features to be able to wear such an amazing liberating hairstyle!!!!..Love your videos...thank you so much....from Margaret in South Australia ....across the Pond!!!!!!
Hello to South Australia!! Thanks so much for your lovely comment!
obsessing over that sweater you're wearing! Great video, too!!
It's an old Everlane one.
This is a video full of great advice. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I love this idea. I just wish I could get it to work with my boho style. I like edgy, rock'n'roll looks but tend to be very dress oriented. So I'm trying to glean your ideas into my own style.
You definitely can. Boho has a lot of freedom in it. So have fun!
Boho can also be cleaner and more minimal ( no patterns ) and therefore a bridge to edgy and rock n roll. Either boho dress plus edgy accessories or edgy outfit with more boho style accessories. The colour choices will also help you bridge the 2 styles.
I am a total bohemian in the hot months in Portugal. I get tired of it after a full summer and now I want simpler look. It’s fun to change it up through the seasons. It’s too hot for layers most of the year, so I look forward to the chance to wear my separates instead of the summery dresses. I add more solid colors, a little more structure, but still wear my fun prints in smaller pieces or my print dresses with a solid shirt or sweater over it to tone it down and pull it a little closer to my body.
Everytime I get inspirations THANKS!🥰
Yay! Love that!
I find that I add more color in the summer months. I love jewel tones in the winter but I always find my way back to neutrals. In particular charcoal, navy, black and camel. Because I have a seated body type, as much as I love blazers, they just don't work well on my body type. In the past year I've found that cropped sweaters work really well for me. I'm in love with the Quince boyfriend crewneck neck. It's shorter in the front and a bit longer in the back. Perfect! I have it in black, navy, and the agave. I'll be ordering their cropped cardigans next. The cotton and the cashmere.
Yea I feel like I change up my colors seasonally too. Thanks for sharing your favorites with us!
wow i loved the style of the video!!
I think the feminine with edge is a great style. You are very stylish 🙂
Thanks so much!
Yes this video advice was fantastic! I am currently searching for a pair of fierce boots to wear for fall and winter. 😊😊😊
One of the best videos I have ever watched. On any subject. The music is epic and the content is right on.

A gorgeous video thank you so much! I I was thinking about you yesterday wearing my COH Charlotte jeans which are just about as great as it gets. I bought them in blue and black and truthfully nothing looks better. Many thanks for the pro tip !
The Charlotte jeans are still one of my go to jeans. So good! Glad you agree!
Hey Emily ......♥️love your special effects, really engaging and enjoyable x
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video, I need to get over having to have everything ironed 🤷🏻♀️
No you don't, if that's what you do that's amazing. I'm just lazy! If I can't get it out with my steamer, I leave it ;-)
This was excellent work. Brava!
Glad you liked it!

I love your Videos more and more! Your style is so effortlessly chic! I was a Visual Merchandiser back in the day! I think you were as well? Anyway, your videos have a sleek cinematography vibe. I just want you to keep it up!! ❤😊Bravo!! Thank you for inspiring and entertaining us. I just might buy a Carhartt hat this fall.
Thank you so much!! And yes, I was a visual merchandiser. Loved it! Only reason I stopped was to be a freelance videographer. I really appreciate your supportive message :-)
Love this!
So glad!
I like It a lot! These points are important ! I love your videos, yr information and the music 😅

Hi Emily, Great advice. Hoping to get your take on casual, practical winter footwear to wear with crop and flare and wide-leg style pants. Thanks!
Will definitely get to that soon!
Love your “new” vibe ( vlog wise ) .. Very cool 👌🏻🌸
Thanks so much!
Nicely done. New subscriber
So cool! Love this! ❤
Yay, thank you!
Thanks!
Oh wow!! Thank you so much!! That is so generous of you! I really appreciate your extra support!!
Hi Emily! Loved this! How did you come to decide your color palette? What are your thoughts on dressing for your " season"? Is this a consideration for you?
I chose black, white, gray and denim as my color palette because it's what I always felt best in. I never felt comfortable with a lot of color. I think dressing for you season is a great concept and can real help inspire a lot of people. For me, I sort of work on the belief that you should wear what 'you' feel best in. Technically I don't think my color tone is suppose to wear black, but it my absolute favorite color to wear. I may have to do a video on this because I get this question a lot. Thanks so much for your comment!!!
This music in this episode reminded me of ‘The Village’ M.Night Shymilan
Hmmmm I'm going to take that as a compliment because I think M. Night is brilliant. :-)
Thank you for the great video, love the music! Could you please identify the composer?
Thank you! Here is the song link www.musicbed.com/songs/adelie/58307

You are my hero. What brand is your high neck turtle black sleeveless that you are wearing here?
It's an old Everlane one.
I’ve always hated button down shirts because of their stiffness. I decided to listen to you and just bought one from Djerf Avenue that looks perfectly slouchy - the On the Go shirt. I’ll report back if I regret listening to you or not. 😂
Let me know! I think you’ll love it 😊
@@EmilyWheatley ok you were right I love it. I’ve had it for two days and I’ve worn it twice. I’m thinking about getting the silver one.
I drink too much coffee for white though. 😂
What’s the brand on the sweater and other shirts that you wear that have that little black circle on the left chest?
Your videos are on point. A few modern edits could expand their reach and increase audience engagement.
Nice - but I miss your Wear vs. Style. Will that be coming back?
Hopefully someday. I was trying to do too much at once. So currently just streamlining a bit. But it is definitely in my scalable plans.
I am just figuring out that it's ok to have a changing style. My family, not so much.
❤
Tell us how you specifically find and research just the right piece. It's your full time job and passion We want good clothes but how
I can definitely do a video on that!
I can definitely do a video on that!!
😁
How can I email you?
I recently lost 40 lbs. due to illness. The clothes that me last year are huge. Currently, I don’t have a budget to buy new. Luckily, I have not listened to those who don’t want me to keep clothes I haven’t worn. My house has plenty of closets including a cedar closet, I have had the luxury to keep clothes. Because I have always bought quality & classic clothes, my wardrobe is up to date but out of my existing closet. My color palette has mostly been black, white, gray, dark red, teal and denim. The thing that is most important is the leather, suedes, and fabrics are superior to what is affordable right now. I am filling in by buying second hand. Vote Democratic. Vote Harris-Walz
My weight fluctuates. Any thoughts…
Relaxed and Oversized fits are a great choice for that and look for contemporary as well.
Keep doing what you're doing...except, grow your hair! Previous style was edgy but feminine.
I didnt dare to tell... 😊.
Can't get more edgy than your cut right now in my humble opinion. You do you, and I for one, love it ! ❤ ❤ You are an inspiration ❤
This is the SECOND time you’ve made that remark, and I couldn’t disagree more. What could be more
feminine than revealing her bone structure? Also, she has three small children to care for and recently suffered a tragic loss, a wash-and-go haircut she can maintain herself is smart!
❤
