      Hi Jaenie 😍💐 it is a wonderful plan, in my opinion 😃 personally, I have a little spray bottle handy at all times, to stop anything suss I see trying to invade my 'chiddos. Someone coined this mixture 'peace of mind in a bottle' and that is so so true! Especially when it comes to dendrobiums that hate anything pesticide wise on their leaves 🙄 leaf loss is almost inevitable when spraying dendrobium leaves for any sign of pests. Not with this stuff 💪🏼 unfortunately, it is not a one and done for good, but it sure is a good feeling to have the right arsenal close by. 🙌🏼 you will be surprise as to how much it stretches. Especially with a wet paint brush! I appreciate you watching the video, thank you! If you have any questions as you prepare for your weekend playing with the 'chiddos, please feel free, under no matter which video 👍🏼 have a wonderful evening ❤️🌸

    Im useing makeup wipes to clean the orchids. Seems to work. Does not stop fungus knats.
    I think it does work....i used a whole bulb of fresh just picked garlic minced. And a bit over 12 ounces of 70% alcohol.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +5

      Hi Richard 😍💐 fungus gnats are are headache. Even though they don't harm the plants, they are a nuisance, for sure. They only way to eradicate fungus gnats is to treat the media on a regular basis because that is where the eggs are. Once they are adults, the garlic alcohol is not going to do the job. Do you treat the media with anything against fungus gnat eggs? I can't mince my garlic because it would clock up my sprayer 😅 thank you so much for watching, Richard! I hope that your day is going beautifully 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    🦒🌺💐🍀!!! I know Adrian too and have watched his videos since he was a teenager🤩. Many years ago when I started my garden I bought a book called The Roses love garlic and the author explained several ways of using it against rose loving pests like aphids, like burying the garlic in the ground around the base of the plant.
    I hope it works for you, I know you are persisting enough to make it work.

      FFF 😍🙌🏼🙏🏼😊💐 It is great to see Adrian grow up, huh? And getting married 😍 the fact that I saw similar signs already on the new growth... and just because I was filming, or I would have missed it... here we go again! 😡 things have really changed, meine liebe Freundin! No more parties... nothing really to uplift the spirits, traditions are out the window, and probably will never be the same again because now everyone has this 'caution' trigger embedded in them. Me included... I wonder if we will ever see full stadiums again, or if, from now on it will all be such a hassle to go anywhere that people won't be bothered. Not that I could travel, even if I wanted to , but, that is a headache for sure. I saw that UK has designated 5.000 hotel rooms for incoming travellers, they get accompanied from the airport to whichever hotel the travellers booked, and seen to their room, which they cannot leave for 10 days. After which, they can enter the country. Crazy times we live in and quite frankly... I wish I had never been around to experience this! 😓 today... back to the dull day climate. So, vecina down the road there, I sincerely hope that you are enjoying another sunny warm spring day. Aqui.... its meh! 😕 so, not much work to be done with the orchids. I shall focus on indoor chores, which is also meh 😅 much love to you, amiga! Thinking of you and your family, fur babies incl. while I sip your tea 😘 Thank you for being here! So very much appreciated! ❤️🌸

I am soooo glad that I left that country. What they are experiencing in Dallas now, was what I had to deal with at some point during the winters there. Scary stuff, while driving ... all I was thinking was, 'I want to get home safe!' (to Spain) I don't want to die here! 😰

Same kind of weather, dull, windy, some flashes of sun as if it was saying, "don't worry I am still here and will be back when these troublesome clouds go somewhere else" 😂. I have been busy this morning, cleaning orchids in water culture and changing water. I found the heart to throw 4 noID Cattleyas in the compost pile. 4 years as recues was long enough 😳. Very surprised to see that cold over Texas, I thought the Vortex had gone home already 🥶. I hope it does not come back this way again. But we are lucky we live in such a balanced climate, indeed.

    On veggies Ive used a combination of chilli, garlic and a drop of dish washing liquid (to hold the mixture on the plant longer) mixed with water.
    I did have a similar type for mix for fungus too, will have to search that recipe out.
    Whe I first started with clivia plants I was told about using a very diluted molasses and water to help control mealybugs. Now, a caveat, I didn't have mealybugs to begin with, but faithfully watered with this dilute concoction. I didnt see any mealybugs. But when I neglected the plants while we were building the house the plants just got the very basic stuff and I did notice bugs.

      Hi Lynn 🤩💐 I have not added the chilli part, in this concoction and unless something radical happens, I probably won't. I was wondering how applying garlic would affect the smell of the orchid itself, and there are no side effects, chilli, however, I think that would stay on the structures and well, if I were to lick my fingers or wipe my eyes, without remembering that chilli could still be there, then ... yikes! 😅We are still getting some really nice warm days, the nights however are chilly enough to put on a sweat shirt, and slippers... man, to be able to live 6 months / year in N'ern and S'ern hemisphere 😅😅 thank you so much for watching, Lynn!! Hi K P! 🤗💐My Momentum video of today, showed the Dendrobium I was pointing out in this video, and all the new growths this year grew clean! I saw signs of some thrips damage, but with the regular application, they were not around for long and nothing came out after that. This has worked wonders for my complex phals and the scale issues I have every summer. I have not lost a phal to scale this year 🙌🏼I am so glad to have found something that will protect the dendrobiums, who are notorious for not liking anything insecticide wise on them... the other orchids have benefitted as well. No regrets! Thank you so much for going back and watching this video. You will really enjoy pest control from now on... trust me! There is something about the garlic residue that stays on the orchid that the bugs don't like. Not just good for vampires 😅oh wait... bugs suck out the juices of our orchids as well, so... they are vampires 😅

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  8 месяцев назад +5

      😍 Hi Denise 💐 it absolutely is working a treat! I have such peace of mind when I see a pest, any pest because it is super effective 👍🏼 since I have made mistakes with it though, I have to caution the point of overdoing it. I saturated an orchid once, in frustration that there was scale taking out the stem again, and having had years of issues with scale taking out my phals at the stem where I cannot see them, I took it out on my Sogo Vivien. Well, that was too much! Saturating the plant is not a good thing, because the evaporative cooling of the alcohol in that quantity will destroy the cell structure. Also, I have reduced the preventative treatment down to 3 weeks. I dropped the ball with my tolumnias, one summer and have lost almost all of that collection due to scale. The garlic alcohol was super effective, but the structure damage at the base of the tolumnias was already done. So, apart from tolumnias and scale being destructive faster than the orchids can recover, this has been a life saver for me and I am not bothered if I see crawlers. 3 weeks has been a great margin on prevention, painting some of the bases of the orchids, especially phals, with a paint brush, I have never had scale issues since. I have not lost a single phal to hidden scale at the stem since I used garlic infused alcohol! Highly recommend 👍🏼 if you have any questions about application as you consider trying it out, always feel free to ask and I can be more specific 👍🏼 thank you for finding this video and for watching! 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Really waiting to see how this goes. 😊 I've seen it in use for garden to repel snails. At least those were staying off from the plants.

I am soooo sick of the moth larvae! I have gone through the monetization process and it was completed so much quicker than I expected. Within a week of application I was approved. Now I am totally lost as to how that all works. I never researched those settings because I did not want to look into anything that didn't apply to me, and would end up in more confusion. I had to learn so much to even do videos, my brain is fried. Now I need to sit down and figure out what to do on the back end and get it right. HI Andre 🤩💐 well.... booo to the spider mites! But YAY... you are armed and they stand NO chance! 👊🏼 if your issue is really bad, then make sure that you shower the orchid thoroughly, like really thoroughly ... something I touch on in this video ruclips.net/video/jaOTmf5vpL0/видео.html the media needs to have water poured through it vigorously as well. Then, dry the orchid, and then apply the garlic alcohol solution... then you can monitor from a ground zero perspective. Applying the solution without first washing the existing spider mites off, may just cause them to migrate to another orchid, away from the essential oils of the garlic, which acts as a repellent. Check your entire collection, Andre! I hate to tell you, but will tell you... check your whole collection and if the rest of the orchids appear clean, give them the alcohol treatment as well. But, all that is also discussed in the video I linked, so I won't bore you with a novel 🤪 thank you for your kind comment, that warms my heart, Andre!! And thank you for watching. @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +6

      Hi Elaine 🤗💐 I love it when a video is right on time for someone... best feeling!! If you are getting orange residue when wiping the leaves, it is a pest called red spider mites. They are also of the bad spirit world 😑 but... this will take care of the problem as well, but clean all the leaves off first with cotton disk and 70% alcohol, so that the maximum of the infestation is already dealt with, before spraying on the garlic / alcohol ... spider mites like dry conditions. Warm and dry, they love it! You can also take your dens to the shower and really shower them down, while rubbing the leaves under the water stream and the 'dry' off with alcohol sprayed disks. Before drying them off, really flush the pot with your shower head spray as well, this way dome of the critters will not just hang out in the pot. You wont get them all in one go... but it will clean them up good, the alcohol wipe will do the next step and then in 24 hrs when your garlic / alcohol has had time to infuse, that will be the repellant 👍🏼 i hope this helps and will be the solution to our pest issues. HI Denise! 😍💐 it is good to see you again! I hope you are doing well! 🫶🏼 Yes, the store bought minced garlic is just as effective, however, in that case, I would let the garlic infuse the alcohol over night and strain it out the following day just so that the fine particles from the garlic that may dislodge, won't clog up a sprayer. My chunks stay in my spray bottle and on occasions I still get some particles clogging up the nozzle because of the movement of the garlic in the spray as it is being handled. • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +3

      Hi Dallas 😍💐 it is safe for every orchid, yes. It is safe in the crown as well, however, just for a precautionary measure, I use my paint brush on which I spritz the mixture to apply it in areas like that. This just ensures that there is no pooling, there is no excessive evaporative cooling that could take out the tender new cells, and it still gets the job done. Using a paint brush in tight spaces spreads the solution nicely and the alcohol will evaporated much quicker, leaving the essential oils of the garlic behind to to it's thing. If I see scale for example, I treat the orchid and then do it again 3 days later. If I see a mealy bug, then I usually only treat once and keep an eye out for any returning critters. If I do a preventative misting, then I mist the orchid from all sides, as well as the base, using my paint brush in tight spaces, possibly every 4 weeks. (prevention) I have found that scale being the most obnoxious, I am quick to repeat more frequently, if I see any and then just as a reassurance, 3 days later to make sure what I am seeing are in fact dead bodies. I hope this helps out? As you go about trying this out and have any further questions, always feel free to ask, under any video... it does not have to be this one 👍🏼 thank you for taking me up on the link, for watching the video. However, as an update, despite the fact that I have some of these larvae in the past, what the garden centre diagnosed, and I repeated in this video, was wrong. The issues with my Neifert's Alexpoly was thrips, which the garlic alcohol has dealt with. Even though, I do get an outbreak on occasions, if I do the preventative treatment with the garlic alcohol, then I do not have a problem with thrips at all. This dendrobium was recently repotted, and is growing 7 new growths this season, which I am hoping to keep clean and protected from any pests 🤞🏼 it is keeping me really busy 😅 thank you so much for watching, Tran! HI Nina 😍💐 sometimes I spray, but when it comes to new growths, tight spaces, especially with the tight structures as they are new, I prefer to paint, to make sure that I get good coverage without drowning out the new growth risking possible rot before the alcohol has a chance to evaporate. But for a general prevention treatment, I mist the orchid from above, much like diffusing a perfume 😃 every month is perfect! I go to 2 months, but have noticed that I am pushing my luck by leaving it that long. So, yes, indefinitely every month is a great time frame. Unless there are pests present, then I retreat, spot treatments with my paint brush, where the pests are located, every 3 days for at least 2 weeks. If the pests do not return, I stop and go back to the misting 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Nina! I hope that my reply answered all your questions sufficiently. Does the alcohol burn the leaves/plant at all??

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 года назад +6

      Hi Desire 😍💐 only if used in excess and if the leaf is warm, when the alcohol touches the leaf and evaporative cooling starts! I have a video coming out about that, because I had one weaker orchid object to the quantity I was treating it with. I mean, the orchid was really treated with an excessive amount,... it was not misting, I let that stuff sit on the leaves, during the month of June, to evaporate. That was a mistake. Using the misting and then spreading it around the structures with a paint brush causes no problems whatsoever, and soaking the paint brush, to distribute it amongst tight spaces... no problems at all! In one year, only the one (which is in the video airing soon) objected. That was me, very heavy handed 👍🏼 this stuff is safe! In the entire year that I have been using it, only this one rescue phal type orchid has shown anything adverse, again... it was me, not the mixture! Hi Nina, I have made up both of the solutions and am starting to use them today but a thought crossed my mind.... if I already had garlic in alcohol made up, could I not use this for fungi as well or will it dry everything up too much if I paint leaves with it?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 года назад +6

      HI Carole 🥰💐 the alcohol evaporates rather quickly which helps to zap the pests that are being targeted, or get the repellent effect to kick into effect quicker. When it comes to a fungus, you don't want the evaporation so quickly... the water solution will allow for the essential oils and properties of the garlic to soak into the cells of the leaves which is better than the repellent effect of the properties to coat the surface of the leaves. If that makes sense? I hope so! If not, let me know and I will try to explain myself better. Thank you so much for going back to this video and for your comment / question. @@NinjaOrchids Hi again, sorry to be asking questions about an older video again but I've just made up the 2 solutions and more questions popped up 😊.
      Should the water for the fungus solution be warm when it's made, to help the infusion process?
      Should the garlic water be warmed slightly when used if it's been stored in the fridge?
      Is it ok to use a soft paintbrush to coat the leaves top and bottom
      If using it on den phals or cattleya do you coat the ps.bulbs as well as the leaves.
      As it's cold outside it's easier to work inside but messy and quite wasteful to spray indoors.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 года назад +5

      The fungus solution, straight into the fridge so that the garlic does not start to go off, and keep in the fridge if you have any left over. I have used it straight out the fridge as well on my orchids, did not wait for it to warm up....and I did that in the summer, and the leaves did not suffer any shock. The same with the garlic infused alcohol... straight out of the fridge, no problem. I use a soft paintbrush to brush structures if I don't want to risk getting the orchid too damp depending on time of year. I don't know if you have seen me using a paint brush in some of my videos, but that is because it is more targeted and I know the structures are covered. I usually only mist the are of the orchid where the pests congregate. So, if I see them at the base, that is my target and if they are on the leaves, then, I focus on that. The garlic has a repellent characteristic that will help ward off the pests from the rest of the structures. So... I had my phals protected with the garlic alcohol solution, and guess where they pests went, last summer? Up my spikes and covered my blooms. Yep! So... now I am putting a strip of the stuff along all spikes with my paint brush 😏 The paint brush is a little cumbersome at first, but, well worth doing .. it is more targeted, and you know where you are applying it. 👍🏼 I hope this helps? keep asking, because questions do come up as we go along

    I dunno about using garlic. They use it in organic production and it used to be used by home gardeners before modern pesticides but, if it worked as advertised, why would we need synthetic pesticides? Anyhoo, I do hope it works for you. I would use the insecticidal soap and just spray it on in the morning and leave it, it shouldn't matter than the stomata are open, you can spray it on Solenaceae (nightshades, e.g. tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants) and their stomata are open during the day (assuming you are using a solution of water, soap and oil only - no alcohol; or a commercial brand which mixes potassium salts, oil and water)
    I'll admit I wanted to make a joke about adding water to your alcohol but I kept it in. 😉 😂

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +6

      Don Miguel 🥰💐I assumed that orchid stomata are of a different 'breed' than normal plants, seeing as they do everything different as well. Especially when it comes to buds and blooms, unless I am completely paranoid about this now and see everything as a problem, when I could make it so much easier for myself and just be more vigilant... although, more vigilant? That would mean I would have to sleep with the orchids that are the target with this pest! 😅 I used the insecticidal soap that I get from my garden centre which is supposedly organic... and it leaves an oily film on the leaves... not much but I can feel the oil component on the rag that I wipe the leaves with and on my hands afterwards, that is why I concluded that I was clogging up the stomata by applying it during the day. I have stopped just spraying the insecticidal soap, because, clearly that didn't appear to be thorough enough, so I wipe ... maybe the wiping and the oil combo clogged up the stomata 🤷🏼‍♀️ did you delete the rest of your comment 🤪😆😅 I had a pun going in my head when I was filming about diluting alcohol which is a no no in my glass (with the exception of the mixer!) 🤪 Hope you are doing well, Michael!
