    Thank you for your video it was truly amazing. I'm happy you got your life back in order. I'm 49 years old and I think I might have this condition. I noticed it started about two months ago. I went to a rock concert with my son. I actually did have ear so thought I was ok. Few days later I noticed my ears felt plugged and little hissing in my left ear. Didn't think nothing of it but has the weeks went on it never got better. Ears felt so full even driving around it was like I was in a plane with pressure and so on. I also noticed clanging of dishes would hurt sirens beeping of horns large groups even someone talking loud would hurt my ears. Went to see my doctor he said could possibly have eustachian tube disfunction. Now its November and seems like I can sort of tolerate a few things but can tell its still definitely there. Recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and starting with cpap machine because snoring is very loud. But still have yet to see ENT specialist. Doctor said snoring probably doesn't help either. So long story short I'm hoping to get better. Never heard of pink noise I will do whatever it takes because of course anxiety kicks in alot. Trying to stay positive your story really helped ❤️🙏

    This is appreciated. I wish I could seem to keep mine at bay. I constantly am surrounding my self with white noise, but as a single mom to a baby every time i feel like it's starting to not effect me so bad, or when I think I've fixed it, he'll reach a new screeching or squeeling faze where thats the most delightful thing to do and it starts the whole process over. But each time it's getting worse and worse. It's become so unbearable that any high pitches noices send me into an immediate aggressive panic. Even the cat meowing or the dog scratching or the baby swing just is too much. I had just gotten to the point where I didnt have to where ear plugs 24/7 or even mind the baby crying when it hit me again. Its back and worse now. I'd be careful of rerriggering it for sure! Be on the alert for any sensitivity because I'm not joking it is much worse the second time

    Adam, your voice made my ears buzz and hum. Yes, mine came on suddenly, and I live a silent lifestyle. Started living with family lately and they're elderly, and they literally blast the TV and today I was wakened by a wood chipper . I am starting to wonder if that's whats contributed to it. I too have nasty anxiety. This hyperacusis started tonight for me. I went from being normal and a few hours later, everything is loud and underlined by a "humming buzz" including water running, toilet running, etc. The sound of your voice being quiet and then getting loud is messing with my head.

      I'm afraid I am in the same boat. How are doing now if I may ask? It just started a month ago for me and before I had no problems with my ears, aside from some swimmer's ear when I was 12, I'm 32 now

      @@Beanie-Sandals I had ear problems as a child also. Honestly, Beanie, I'm not sure what this hyperacusis thing was or why it chose me. I experienced it one absolutely terrible time (which was when I wrote that original comment), one very bad time, and 1 not so bad time, all within about a month. Each time was easier. I haven't had it again since. It was TERRIBLE. Let me tell you, that was the creepiest phenomenon I've ever dealt with. How are you doing? Did you have a trigger you can recall that may have played a part in setting this off?

    • @Beanie-Sandals
      @Beanie-Sandals 4 года назад +1

      @@faithafterdark7801 almost two months ago I tried cleaning out my ears with q-tips and as soon as I did I had muffled hearing in my right ear for a week. So I went to see my doctor which knows nothing about hyperacusis or tinnitus and suggested I use debrox so she used it on me once, and I did it a few times at home, it was very uncomfortable because I don't like anything in my ears especially some oily liquid and a waterpik to squirt in the ear and clean out. I did ever so gently but noticed a day later I started hearing ringing and weird noises like my tinnitus was getting louder and everything else was turned up to 11 even my own clicking of my eustachian tube when it would open and close when swallowing would make my tinnitus react almost like a feedback loop echo. So for the 3 weeks trying to figure out what was going on I read about hyperacusis, and went to see an ENT who said "there's nothing physically wrong with your ears it could be TMJ blah blah" like I just wasted his time. Well I refused his diagnosis (or lack thereof) and went to see an audiologist who knows about hyperacusis, and she says it's mostly mental (an anxiety reaction in the brain) paired with an external catalyst such as me having no ear wax in my ears at all, which she says it could have been a sort of ear plug or a cushion buffer zone between the sounds in the world and my eardrums. It got so bad that a motorcycle miles down the highway would send my ears screaming, I live pretty close to the highway. I couldn't play guitar even electric unplugged finger picking, I couldn't even listen to music on low volume or play video games, I even took away my dog's squeak toys and covered up my windows, my life was just closing in on itself and I was living in an induced deaf world. I was reaching out everywhere, I was almost on the brink of insanity contemplating suicide because I couldn't escape, I watched the hockey movie Miracle about US vs RUSSIA during the Olympics in 1980, I normally would have cried but because it was only subtitles I felt nothing, and then I just cried about that... Anyways, I'm probably babbling on, but the audiologist told me the number one thing to do was to stop wearing earplugs and get outside in fresh air and start tinnitus retraining therapy which I've been doing tabletop via MyNoise app for the past week and holy crap the lady was right. I'm going back next week to get some hearing aid sound generators to really kick this tinnitus retraining therapy into high gear

    • @faithafterdark7801
      @faithafterdark7801 4 года назад +1

      @@Beanie-Sandals I'm glad you have a game plan to address this. Like you I absolutely despise having anything liquid in my ears. To the point I panic. I also have high anxiety. I did consult with an audiologist as well via email, as he wasn't doing appts due to covid and he said it could be Mennier's. But as I said, mine ended up going away. My ears are very sensitive and I'm hyper aware of any "baffling" noise.
      I once (before hyperacusis) had ear debris stuck and tried debrox, and it failed miserably as I couldn't squirt it in there well. Too skiddish. Finally went to a great doc and let him do an ear cleaning. He squirted a syringe with peroxide and warm water in my ear and the wax dislodged and suddenly everything sounded so loud, but NOTHING like the hell I experienced with hyperacusis. Yes, I felt the vibrating of motorcycles. And if a car was coming from half mile away I could tell how big the tire treads were, just by the sound/ feeling of the vibration on the pavement.
      I guess I was very fortunate that this was a fluke, though I bet it isn't impossible that it may happen again someday. May you get relief quick. Now, I have teeth issues to deal with. If it's not one thing, it's another, right?

    • @faithafterdark7801
      @faithafterdark7801 4 года назад +1

      @@Beanie-Sandals Incidentally, I was using earbuds one night, listening to a pastor scream over a megaphone, and I believe it was the day after that when the hyperacusis started. After it went away the first time, an extremely loud car backfired in front of me, which sound and felt like an explosion, and then the hyperacusis came back after that. Maybe your audiologist is right and this has something to do with hearing sensitivity? Maybe too much electric guitar, high frequencies affecting you.

      Yusuf Ali I have recovered by trying these things : 1) install a sound level meter app on your phone . Measure the sound in your environment whenever you “fear” loudness , if it’s below 85db - just remind yourself this cannot destroy your hearing! Over time your mind will stop fearing sound . 2) in my house I’ve setup/deployed sound absorbing material wherever possible. For examples : thick curtains , paintings made on 2 to 4 inch thick foam, wall to wall carpet , etc. cutting down sound reflectiions in your home reduces the pressure on your brain that the ambient volume is loud( research room acoustics - multiple reflections from parallel walls in the typical living room create destructive sound interference - adds more stress to your brain that is already in fear mode coz of hyperacuisis ). These 2 steps got rid of my hyperacuisis. In short the solution is mostly psychological ( don’t fear anything under 85db ) and partly physical ( reduce ambient noises in your living environment). This resolved my issues in 6 months. Hope it works for you , good luck !

I developed an ear infection days later, I know that made it permanently worse, im not sure if the pressure from the infection caused it or the antibiotics but the sound of Tinnitus got a lot louder. I think the Hyperacusus has always stayed the same. Dishes clanking, dogs barking, horns honking, everyday sounds hurt. Toilet flushing is annoying but not pain. Hi Adam,
    Thank you for the video and the details of your event. I'm glad you prevailed. Did you have to wear ear protection to run water, like the kitchen faucet or to take a shower? Hey there, it was almost that bad in the beginning, more so louder stuff like dishes, traffic, vacuums, etc but it slowly improved with time even before I fully recovered...I did wear ear plugs in the very beginning and for sounds that significantly bothered my ears...if sounds bother you so much that they cause symptoms, its okay to wear ear plugs for relief, but you dont' want to depend on it in the long run, as it will only make your sensitivity worse - at some point, you have to decide for yourself to allow your ears to hurt a bit from the sound - it is part of building tolerance.

    Maybe I missed something, but I don't understand how you went from: Wearing earplugs outside to wearing headphones with pink noise that is barely audible outside. If I go outside without earplugs, I will get burning pain for weeks or up to a month, maybe longer. Headphones won't protect against that and will leave me instantly exposed. You said you had burning pain and all the other symptoms and were wearing earplugs, so I'm looking for help on how you actually bridged from not being able to handle car rides or outside without earplugs to just going out with headphones which offer no protection.

      Hey Chad, you definitely don't want to use earbuds or "closed" headphones that go over the ear, you want "on-ear" headphones that rest next to your ears so you can listen to the pink noise while still being able to hear the sounds in your environment. Blocking out all other noise is just as bad as wearing ear plugs all of the time, which could worsen your sensitivity if you over-do it.

    Levels (85 DB+) to normal conversational volume? Also, were you able to figure out which levels were harmful and which were not in musical environments? Or did you have to step away completely from all of that for a while? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Look man, I want to be as respectful as possible but I really do believe scientific data suggest you got it all wrong and your hyperacusis recovering from sound therapy. I believe pain hyperacusis goes away because of the natural healing that peripheral nerves posses and sound therapy has no significant benefit.
    TRT and sound therapy may be treat one subtype of hyperacusis such as "noises sounding too loud" but "noise induced pain" is something related to nerve damage and in some cases sound therapy makes pain hyperacusis worse.
    If you listen to the researchers and scientist studying hyperacusis with pain they do mention the ears are more fragile then healthy ears. That's just the reality when nerves are damaged. The audiologist are clueless when it comes to hyperacusis and you were one of the fortunate ones that healed naturally.
    I'd really appreciate if we could have discussion about the disagreements, hyperacusis can be a life in death scenario for some and it's important they here both sides of the story.
