Actually, I heard those units were part of a conspiracy to join the zerg hivemind. It might not have seemed relevant, but they were up to no good and needed to be punished. Flo plays 12D chess.

I disagree with your assessment of Protoss. See, you described them the way they *want* to be described - sophisticated and proper - but the lore and their behavior doesn't seem to support that.
They're partially-uplifted psychic chimpanzees. They respond to any challenge with homicidal rage, and the only reason they were able to forge a society in the first place was because their Khala meant that they couldn't hurt each other without hurting themselves.
In the lore, they not only turned on the Xel'naga the moment they realized they were real, they also annihilated the first race they made contact with. They felt really bad about it after it, and they may be working on it, but throughout the campaign their first act in almost every situation is to issue orders, then go berserk on anyone who questions them.
