If I had a nickel for every time a woman named satine died in the arms of a character famously played by Ewan McGregor I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
It's the WAY he cries, I've never seen another actor do it similarly. He just... sobs. It's so realistic and heartbreaking, he does it every time he cries in movies. It's the mix of childlike blabbering and helplessness which just crosses the line of what feels like acting and what feels like reality. It's so beautiful but so crushing to watch, it gets me every time

The most beautiful tragedy to ever exist. They were to together a short time but they loved as if it was a lifetime. Well done Baz Luhrmann on creating such a spectacular spectacular masterpiece ♥
My girlfriend Rosey and I made this our movie. We loved this movie as intimately as we loved each other and just as passionately as Christian and Satine loved. When we broke up I couldn't watch this movie for years, it ripped open my heart, and when I finally did watch Moulin Rouge again I was blinded by my tears. The love was so passionate between us that this movie is a joyfully painful reminder. I can't watch this movie without smiling and crying for Christian and Satine, as well as for me and Rosey. They say it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. That's True, but it hurts so very much.
I don't know the situation with you and Rosey but if you can please reach out to her. Yes it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, but it's best to stay in that love. Your feelings towards Rosey are still there, tell her what you just wrote here! You only live once, live life with the people you love most. Best wishes.

Then, when I asked her to commit to me, she told her husband about us, bragged to her friends and family about the affair, she tried to make her husband jealous, which made him love her more, which was her plan all along, her husband begged her to stay, then she dumped me and stayed with her husband. I should have resisted harder, I should have said no. We've never spoken since and that was 2007. I'm a fool who loved and lost someone who just wanted to have an affair. you know, the funny thing about tuberculosis is that if your dying from it your not gonna die onstage singing and dancing...you wouldnt even be able to get out of bed. and as much as obi-wan has been fooling around with her he probably has it to and then goes off into that galaxy far far away to spread it around. no wonder darth vader cant breathe. regardless of that minor nitpick this was a BEAUTIFUL movie! its by far my favorite musical. in my own opinion Baz Luhrmann will never top this one.
Me laughing at the Star Wars reference aside, you're absolutely right about terminal TB, but TB has a LOOONG history of being romanticized. In the Victorian era (when MR is set) it was even seen as a glamorous way of dying, at least for women. It was seen as so glamorous that it inspired beauty trends, plays, operas, and fashion. The effects of long term TB were drastic weight-loss, extremely pale skin and weakness, with the sparkling eyes, flushed cheeks and rosy lips that came from constant low-grade fever. Victorians adored this, and fashion and makeup trends did their best to mimic a "consumption-chic" aesthetic. Coupled with Bohemian Europe's love of tragic romance (tuberculosis related deaths inspired multiple popular operas of the time that are still performed today, La Triviata being one of the more famous ones.) In many ways, Satine's death in Moulin Rouge (and looking so tragically beautiful at the same time) is THE MOST Bohemian ending that could have happened.
Ewan Mcgregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Nicole Kidman as Satine Kryze Satine death had to have been a reference to *Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 05 Episode 16 The Lawless*
