I used to get bored of Anubias because of how slowly it grows, but I'm starting to realize that it's really an amazing plant as long as you don't expect it to really "grow in" to a space like most other plants will. I've found that if I just buy enough of it to fill in the space that I want it to take up, it is great. It looks beautiful, needs no real maintenance, and just stays pretty much the way you planted it. And if the CO2 runs out and you don't notice immediately, it is one of the few plants that won't be fazed at all (something I learned the hard way a couple months ago).
CO2 is like a serious drug habit for most plants. You need to wind down the dose slowly and some can't handle that either. Anubias can quit cold turkey. Only problem can be too much light.
To Jacob, I just wanted to write a small message saying thank you. I have had non planted tanks for the best part of two years and have only just got into the deep crazy world of planted tanks, your information has been beyond inspirational and easy to digest. I speak for myself but trust me there are many who will agree with me on how much of an impact you have made on the planted tank community. So from me and many others, Keep up the great work we'll continue to support you. thank you. - Connor
hey jacob i just want to say thanks for helping me move from fake plants to java fern, moss balls, and Anubis plants. your videos helped my tank look more natural and beautiful. keep up the vids bro!!!
Anubias is a great plant to start with....and I have been keeping a planted aquarium for a long time and I still have my first anubias in it. Around 3 years now :) Great video Jacob!
I have one of these in my goldfish tank and his waste along with the mystery snail's help, it's been prompted to flower. Really great plant, no special lighting and all it's planted in is an old jam jar with some marbles weighting the roots.
fairly warm, I know goldies can deal with cooler, but I aim for 18c min with 20c preferable in summer. unfortunately my local water table spiked to 9.0ph during an unseasonably warm winter and killed John Cena the apple snail before I even knew there had been a spike. The Anubias has bloomed twice in my set up so it's ok at those temps as well.
hi Jacob, I have two anubias plants that aren't very old and I just got a fancy new led light this week. I'm concerned about my plants since this light is surely overkill for my plants and tank size. I'm running the lights at 30% until I see what's going on. I was wondering if when you talked about anubias doing poorly under too much light, how long of a photo period would you suggest? thanks!!
Hey . Great video. I love anubias plants. I have a few in my 30 gallon. I seen the first shot of the ones in your tank and seen a flower growing on it.? Do all anubias species let off a flower or is it certain ones? Thanks again and keep these cool videos coming.
It’s unfortunate you don’t ship to Canada but I fully understand why! I’d love to be able to support you and your business. I’ve learned so much from you after just two days of finding your channel! As a fishkeeper ready to try live plants again, I am fully confident going into this with everything I’ve learned from you.
When my ancistrus spawned and overrun the tank they munched it down. That was before the days of youtube and now I would just offer free fish to other hobbyists, but back then there were few options for re-homing them, and I gave a lot to my LFS.
I attempted to grow anubias nana in my 90 gallon community tank. Halogen bulb(plant growing version) and i dosed flourish according to bottle it really struggled the whole time i had it. I think maybe the flow was inadequate? This time im going to have a tupperware with aquarium soil.
i once have a anubias, i tied it to a river rock(pebble?) using a cotton string it doesn't seem to anchor, but the plant get barely any light because the ambient lighting isn't strong enough, but it lasted for 3 years in that condition while retaining the same size since i bought it.. back then 1 was a novice aquarist.. Now i'm planning a low tech set up with proper equipment. No more gravel for me given i take a liking to ADA aqua soil look..
Just wondering if it needs to be submerged in water. Im thinking of using my Anubis plant in a terrarium. Will it survive if its constantly watered? or partially submerged?
Hi there, that is an interesting plant with large size leaf like regular house plant used for decor. I want if that type of plant can grow above water? I like water plant that doesn't require soil to survive, one that branch off outside of water base. Yes I'm planing on investing some nice plants for my ten gallon. It currently house two cichlids and glad it was mention this plant is safe with cichlids fish. New subscribe and btw i admired your calmness/soft spoken tone of voice that makes it easier to listen. Thank you for not screaming/shouting at your audience like other presentation lol.
Hi Jacob, i recently bought an Anubias barteri nana and just left it to float in my tank as was waiting to do a water change before attaching it to some bogwood. This morning i took it out and all the leaves fell off! The Rhizone and roots still look fine so ive attached it to some bogwood...will it still grow without having any leaves? It did have 10 healthy leaves when i first put it in 5 days ago. Im abit confused beacause its a hardy plant and all my other plants grow well so not sure why this has happened after only a few days of floating in my tank. Great video keep up the good work!
Great video. I just purchased my first anubias plants today. Two anubias "frazeri" and an anubias "congesis" and they are very pretty. Was just wondering if it's possible to grow them in a claypot in the water? I don't have any substrate in my 60 gallon tank at the moment and think it would be pretty to have them grow in pots inside the tank :D
I've seen lots of people do that. I personally never have, so I can't recommend a good method. But yeah give it a try, I think they should grow just fine. Thanks for watching.
Hy jacob. I have been trying to grow this plant for last 2 months but have lost almost 2 mother plants. Everytime i introduce the plant to my tank their rhizome starts melting. I have a lowtech tank with no supply of CO2 i use tropica premium growth liquid fertilizer with 10w led floodlight. Can you please help me understand why does the rhizome melt away am i doing anything wrong?
What are those patches of plant in the aquarium on the right...those little mats...what are those? I wanna add a few mats of Dwarf Baby Tears to my Betta's tank. And also what is the floating plant in that tank?
Anyone use Black Diamond Blasting Sand from Tractor Supply as a substrate in a planted tank? I'm in the process of putting together my first community tank with a black substrate and would like it to be lightly planted with some "beginner" plants. A few people suggested BDBS for the substrate. Your opinions?
Hi, i recently had anubias on my tank, they were great and healthy on first 3wks. I attached them on a manzanita wood, but they started having black spots which some come off, im afraid its gonna kill the plant. Do have any advise? Thanks.
I have had eco complete with an inert gravel cap for 6 years. would you recommend switching to sand? I like the look of sand but I am not sure which sand I would use or how to start over with that. I was thinking of removing some gravel and adding sand. any suggestions?
I keep discus on a bare bottom 125 gal. I want to add a drift wood and a couple of anubias in a tank. I use seachem discus buffer and some water conditioner every time I do water change. Will it kill the pant?
Unfortunately this plant didn’t last with my 4 inches silver dollar fish. I noticed the fish nibble on it and over time I’ve noticed the leaves are getting eaten up. I fed the fish regularly and tried offering lettuce. It took the lettuce just fine but didn’t stop it from eating Anubias plant. It was the only new life plant I’ve added into the tank so the fish saw it as food. The 2nd day I had to remove the plant and let grow on its own from a separate jar. I like your tank and good thing works out with the fish kept in there.
I want to put 2 anubias nana plants in my 5 gallon fish tank I have silk plants currently will I get green water or algae bloom ? also it’s already an established cycled tank with supernaturals sand
Really happy that your doing well ^^ Its great to see a channel with so many useful tips and real information that has been tried and tested :) Thank you :)
Ay man so I just got some anubias at Petco it didn't tell me what plant exactly it just said "anubias on wood" and the leaves are dying some have holes in them and the plant it's like bending down. What's the reason for that?
hello. i have chihiros a series light and i am trying to make better lightning for anubias without other plants. the light is direct. have i to dimmer to low power the chihiros light? i hope an answer. thanks
Good vid ! Why do they melt ? My tank is healthy and i dose with iron and liquid carbon .. but my Anubis are turning brown ( they are tied to hardscape )
my anubias nana leaves have turned yellow while some are light green and dark green .......sholud i take off the yellow leaves ....altough new leaves are still coming out of the rizhomes
hi bro I have anubias Nana in 37 gallon tank with 36 watts pll light in it....I dose ei dosing and co2 1 bubble per 2-3 second but recently it has got green dust algae and bba algae and new growth is slightly red and leaf is lightly bent downwards on sides.....plz help me on this
Omg thanks so much. I had mines buried in and I was starting to get a leaf that was starting to turn brown on the tip so that’s probably why. I’m pretty sure you just saved me 12.99$
Have you thought of doing some sort of collaboration or interview with Cory McElroy of Aquarium Co-op? I've been watching his videos and I think his subscribers/customers would be very interested in your knowledge base and products, as I know I am.
Im almost returning my orange rosy barbs to the lfs....lets see if an anubia lanceolata will resist to those destroyers...they simply ate java fern leaves, ceratopteris, eleocharis, bacopa, higrofila corymbosa....and so on...argh!
would any one recomend this plant in a 10gallon betta tank? While reaserching anout bettas it said this was the top or second (losing 1st by amazin sord) to live with siam fighting fish would any of tou reccomed if you have a betta in with it right now or had

... Anubias is the only plant that doesn't die in my aquarium.
You have made me feel so encouraged that I'm going to try some live plants, again. Thank you!
Anubias is a great plant to start with....and I have been keeping a planted aquarium for a long time and I still have my first anubias in it. Around 3 years now :) Great video Jacob!
Keith's Planted Aquariums do you have to have lighting?????
I have one of these in my goldfish tank and his waste along with the mystery snail's help, it's been prompted to flower. Really great plant, no special lighting and all it's planted in is an old jam jar with some marbles weighting the roots.
Suzanne what temperature is your aquarium?

You've come a long way, man! Great to see a Aquarium hobbyist flourishing- in this electronic age.
Yep. It just got Hi-tech
I super glued my anubias to rocks, lol.
Ain't nothing wrong with that my friend
I miss your video's Jacob! I've learned soo much from you!

Excellent video! I appreciate the information on the Anubias Nana.
I have some Long Stem Anubias and the regular on driftwood, and yes, the root should only EVER be anchored by the substratum.
Acquired an anubias and water wisteria today thanks to your informative videos! My betta is beyond pleased, thanks.
Cryptocoryne plants can survive snails! So can java moss!

Thank you so much :)
Can we plant Anubiyas in gravel or Sand...?
How long does it take for the roots to attach on the bogwood till you can remove elastic bands? Low tech
Great video. You do a nice job explaining without getting boring!

I love anubias, my anubias nana has been with me for years
Thanks for showing me how to propagate my Anubias! Well done.
Pea Puffs + Anubias = Cute hinding space
Looks awesome with sand

Jacob, what plants go good with this as far as looks go and maintenance for betta tanks?
Hi Jacob... Can Anubias be harmed by aquarium salt? I wonder why my anubias keep rotten .. I suspect the salt was the reason.. thanks!
Great video, I love Anubis and grow it in all of my tanks. (Even with my oscar)
Hey Jacob, I just wanna ask whether this plant is suitable for the cichlid tanks with calcium carbonate sand or not. Thanks in advance.
What are those patches of plant in the aquarium on the right...those little mats...what are those? I wanna add a few mats of Dwarf Baby Tears to my Betta's tank. And also what is the floating plant in that tank?

Thank you for the video and all the information of how to propagate the Anubias plants , i like small plants .. i am going for Anubia Nana . Tks.
Hi. I have plants in the aquarium that have lot of roots hanging out of stem. Is there a way to avoid that
I have had eco complete with an inert gravel cap for 6 years. would you recommend switching to sand? I like the look of sand but I am not sure which sand I would use or how to start over with that. I was thinking of removing some gravel and adding sand. any suggestions?
Pool filter sand is pretty cool and keep all extra food and fish waste on top of it.
Hi Jacob, my Anubias have lots of air roots. Do I keep them on, or I can trim them? Thank you, Alexiy
How does trimming go? Do you just cut the left off, or do you have to cut up close to the rhizome?
Better to tear the stem of at the rhizome by bending it backwards so it snaps off completely.
If one of the leafs has green algae on it and you can't rub it off should I just cut the leaf off?
First try rubbing it off if it doesn't come off just cut it

Looking into getting anubias for my tanks. Can it just be placed in, not planted, but not anchored? Just kinda floating?
Love your channel. Thanks for the advise.
I want to put 2 anubias nana plants in my 5 gallon fish tank I have silk plants currently will I get green water or algae bloom ? also it’s already an established cycled tank with supernaturals sand
If its established, more plants definitely won’t hurt it. Have fun! Thanks for watching.
Really happy that your doing well ^^
Its great to see a channel with so many useful tips and real information that has been tried and tested :)
Thank you :)
i have anubias with 24w light , liquid co2 and fertlizers. but still they fade and looks ugly
Ay man so I just got some anubias at Petco it didn't tell me what plant exactly it just said "anubias on wood" and the leaves are dying some have holes in them and the plant it's like bending down. What's the reason for that?
my giant gouramis love the anubias leaf when i give them the trimmed leaf lol
My Anubias has a bud!!! I think it is reproducing. What do you think? Also my Anubias has black spots on it... Any advise??? Thanks for the vid!
hello. i have chihiros a series light and i am trying to make better lightning for anubias without other plants. the light is direct. have i to dimmer to low power the chihiros light? i hope an answer. thanks
Good vid ! Why do they melt ? My tank is healthy and i dose with iron and liquid carbon .. but my Anubis are turning brown ( they are tied to hardscape )
Its hard to say as there are so many variables. However I'll try to help. Whats your water like? Hardness? PH? ect.
Ph 7 ... our gh is mid to high . The temp is 28.c .. good natural light and a fluval freshwater aquasky led .. my lighting times are a bit erratic
Low calcium is the cause for me. Try dosing it
So can you grow a plant without substrate???
Anubias yes. But not all plants. Thanks for watching.
I've seen all most all ur videos, find it very helpful!
love the video, just got the plant and i can see why you love it
My buenos aires tetras are absolutely demolishing my anubias...
I love Anubias to grow it on a spong filter
dude what if i have naughty lobsters!? well they're terrible they really nipping on my driftwood piece by piece
Cool. Thanks My anubias is a bit big so I'm going to do like you said and split it up.

can i grow it immersed? outside aquarium in a pot open air?
What about those people who tell you that this being a big rhyme plant is really good about just simply floating it?
Is there a "rule of thumb" for how many leaves you should keep on each individual rhizome section?? Great videos brother.
3 healthy leaves :) More is allways better
Can you do a video about explaining the difference between the roots and rhizomes :D
Omg thanks so much. I had mines buried in and I was starting to get a leaf that was starting to turn brown on the tip so that’s probably why. I’m pretty sure you just saved me 12.99$
what plants can grow in low to med light brackisj water
My Anubis is melting because my aquarium light is too strong
whaha have fun with the baracuda xD
Have you thought of doing some sort of collaboration or interview with Cory McElroy of Aquarium Co-op? I've been watching his videos and I think his subscribers/customers would be very interested in your knowledge base and products, as I know I am.
Crawfish will fuck up anubis as well just in case you were wondering 😂
Wow so cool! I got anubias nana in my tank and they’re doin’ very well! ;)
