I remember hearing Orinoco Flow in so many malls and department stores as a kid in the 90s, and being unable to determine what the song was. It wasn't until about 10 years later, when I could google "Sail away sail away lyrics" that I found out the name of the song that had been stuck inside my head for so many years. Enya is one of a kind.
I did the same! I remembered a few bars of Orinoco Flow but nothing else, just knew there was some mystical group or person that sounded like a brand of shower gel (Ananya). That was it from the mid-eighties until she released The Memory of Trees when I was 15. Totally hooked ever since & I got my hands on Orinoco Flow 2 years later. She’s incredible…on some of her tracks she layers her voice over 500 times. I’d love to see her in concert but the sound wouldn’t be the same
You guys must be bloody young. Mind you I thought it was a new release in 94 when I saw ads for it on tv (must have been plugging a greatest hits?) and it came out about 5 to 6 years prior to that.
Back in elementary school, my art teacher would play Enya while we painted. Sadly, I have forgotten her name with time, but I thank her for playing it.
I remember hearing this on the radio in the 80s as a child and immediately got hooked. I needed to know who/what this was and the joy I felt when I found out about it. I couldn't buy her album fast enough.
Enya - thank you for dedicating this song to the greatest and mythical Venezuelan river ORINOCO. This flow of water has been the inspiration of many legends and is also the setting of otherwordly landscapes.
For people that get angry at the fact that she lip syncs, the magic of Enya is her voice being layered in multiple tracks that gives this very distinctive sound that would almost be impossible to reproduce completely live. When she works in the studio, they are basically only 3 people, which is why it takes so much time before she releases an album. It's hard for them to trust other performers. If you listen to live performances that she did in the past, the magic is gone. Her art pieces are her albums. Editing after 5 years: Remember, the title of this video was neither written by Warner Music or Enya’s team. I’m guessing this program was on FujiTV or another japanese channel. It’s very known that in Japan, loads of artist perform on studio tracks. Enya did sing live on a couple occasions. She did “Echoes in the Rain” on a Morning UK Television show. And like I said, the performance was just Ok... because it didn’t sound like the absolute layered perfection we hear from her recordings.
+NiGHTSaturn But this is valid criticism. If you are going to bill yourself as "live," it should be as live as possible. It's called professionalism. The Carpenters used layered vocal overdubs for up to 16 voices, yet they performed them live also! Who complained? Use a TC Helicon VoiceLive choruser and/or backup singers if you have to, or don't bill yourself live. (I'm sure Enya fans will attack now.)
Nobody will attack you. But this video was named by the person that uploaded the video and not Enya's team. Obviously on television, a lot of the times, the performances are sometimes lip synced. And using backup singers would never be possible to recreate the sound of the albums. It would be disappointing for some. I'm not saying that lip synching is good, but with Enya particularly, if you listen to real live performances, they are usually very disappointing because they are so far away from the studio tracks, which are made by layering. Unless Enya can clone herself, I don't think it's possible to do this.
Check out Julianna Barwick If you've not heard her already, she does the enya style multilayered vocal with a boss loopstation it sounds beautiful and gives me goosebumps.
Love this song, takes me on a a beautiful journey and adventure, sailing away to some amazing shore. Hope everyone is well and getting through COVID-19, stay safe.
Enya, a treasure to the art of music... lip sync or not when she appears in a live performance. Her magic abounds and speaks to us all. I absolutely love her performance. She is gold.
This video is so stunning in so many ways...knowing there is a synthesizer humming in the background during the "Bridge" (Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up..Adieu)...as the all of the musical instruments SLOW down. The studio is red during the Chorus, fades to black, then fades up to dark blue...the camera dollies (moves forward) in the middle aisle, and you can see the string players, pluck the cello strings. 11 out of 10.
This song is still wonderfully fantastic in 2022 without fading. I think it is one of the masterpieces that will never appear in the world. from Japan.
I absolutely adore enya and her incredible music it makes me feel so close to her and very relaxing there is nothing wrong with her music at all enya its Theresa here your music is my favorite to listen too.
Magnificent. I am not sure how to express my admiration for this singer, this venue, and this rendition of the famous song. Immensely decorated musically gifted individual.
Great song from good times past and gone.....will never be another time. Like those days.....so fortunate have grow in up in a more innocent time as a kid when things were simple.
Linda muito Linda música AMO demais, ela tão elegante, um estilo que me chama muito atenção, sem contar com o tom da música, que me fascina obrigada por compartir.
I will never forget the first time i heard indeed saw the videoclip for this sublime artist,it was advanced autumn and the images and sound together, with the ethereal voice of Enya, merged with what i could seefrom the nearby window, that is,the pastel colors of the season projecting in me a set of evocative sensations... At the time i was sharing from Rock till the rising House music...but just Watermark went on the market,i rushed to buy it!!! It was the record for that winter,my record of the distant cold winter in 1988!!!
It's been a while since a comment: new comment: I believe this is one of the best songs ever written, and the production was made by some genius. I know they are over dubbing, but there is much more to it than that. It is as if God flashed an epiphany to a song writer, and the song writer just wrote the music directly from the hand of God, much like the festival commemorating the Epiphany on January 6. So, enjoy this song and be aware of how much more this song is than just another song. The Epiphany on January is the last day of Christmas for Christians....Enjoy!!
I was amazed to learn that there is, in fact, very little synthesizer on this track. their was a 30-piece ensemble of live strings, as well as live timpani, and most of the rest of the layers-even the “pads”-are Enya’s voice. so to sing it 100% live would be impossible unless you cloned Enya multiple times.

I'm so happy that Enya and her music exist. I've never heard anything so close to the sound of dreams as her music. ❤️
So well put!
Yeman 🤣
Oh it's much further than dreams...it's a dream that was true, that we all done...and to which we are seeking to reach again..
exactly, this is dream music
Back in elementary school, my art teacher would play Enya while we painted. Sadly, I have forgotten her name with time, but I thank her for playing it.
Absolutely timeless. If this were to be released for the first time today it would immediately go to no.1
The production work is incredible.
her songs always remind me of HEAVEN.
Or walking in a big empty field
we are so lucky to experience heaven on earth
I know what you mean, you could just imagine floating up through the blue sky and clouds to heaven whilst this amazing piece of music plays
It reminds me of beaches.
Really. Have you been to heaven already? Why would you come back here?
What a genius who invented that plucked-violin sound.
Pizzicato yoi mean? Yeah it was the freakin Italians
@@ejmtv3 I doubt italians invented pulling on a string and releasing it but it is possible.
That’s me done with the internet today. LOL
D H The very sound that is used is from the Roland D-50, a linear synthesiser originally produced in 1987. The patch is called Pizzagogo
midinerd the did invent pizzicato (no hate tho)

Beautiful song from our Orinoco in Venezuela that's why I admire Enya so much, her angelic voice

One of the most beautiful singers in the entire world.

A dose of fraud would be more appropriate.
