Thanks to Steve Lukather for coming on the show! We will have a part 2! If we missed any super chats let me know and I will get your question answered. Please press subscribe and visit sweetwater.
this was my first live tone talk and it didn't dissapoint! I laughed out loud a few times thanks to Luke's shenanigans. He has a filthy mind, I Love it !!!!! Cheers from your fans in Ottawa Canada !!!!! We have lots of Tone Talk fans in the capital of Canada !!!!!!
I like his honesty and humble personality. I've watched him talk about George Harrison and when his dad bought him his first guitar and amp. He's a beautiful human being.
I met Luke once and hung out for a while and he was super cool. I have such a massive amount of respect for Luke as a guitar player, bassist, singer and song writer.
I saw Toto August 26, 1982 at the Universal Amphitheater, and they killed it! What a great night. They were so clean you could argue "pre-recorded!" Not a bad note the entire show - VERY tight. I saw a lot of concerts in the day, and only two were "oops-free" (Supertramp at Irvine Meadows, Rodger Hobson's last night with the band, was the other). I just ordered Toto Japan 1982. Looking forward to the flashback. Thanks Steve. I love playing a disc, grabbing my axe, and throwing down with you... ... Always a great ride. Peace.
Steve Lukather is definitely one of my influences. I will never forget those solo parts on EW&F Faces Steve layed tracks on. That brought the soul of those songs to life. Such as You Went Away. Take care Steve. You are amazing with Toto and respected as a Guitar Artist. All the Best.🤗🎸🎶🎤
If Steve had not been a great musician he would probably had been a great stand up comedian. He's so funny and he's always so close to say the whole sh*t he knows about the music business. Love him.
Make sure you catch the Audible audiobook. Steve himself narrates it and gives stuff that ain't in the text. It goes so much deeper than just reading the words on a page. Love Steve. ❤
Love Steve for him just being himself. Always gives great interviews and his straight talk is refreshing. Steve is best when he plays within himself. Love his guitar playing - from the heart - I always listen to him and react with "Whow."
Steve Lukather is fucking hilarious! On a more serious note, don't take any chances, Steve! We will always still need you! I remember looking at his Ibanez ads in Guitar Player and thinking about how awesome he was. Just a killer, killer, killer player. Not the flashiest, not the jazziest, not the fastest, but one of the best ever.
@@cathybedwell1877 Naw, he'd be the first to admit it. There are definitely faster players, for example. It doesn't matter. The only people impressed by guitar speed is other guitar players, and not even all of them are. I'm not. Steve's playing has never been about speed or flash - it's been about taste. Really, really, really good taste. That's why he's one of the best ever.
I really think Steve SHOULD DEFINITELY write a 2nd book where he goes in-depth on every Toto album with studio and tour stories, goes in depth on all of his solo albums from his first one with guests Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens, Jan Hammer all the way through to his latest one. In depth stories on his gigs at Baked Potato and all the other special gigs he played throughout his career. In depth stories on as many sessions as he can remember and everything else creative. Make it uplifting, heartfelt, deep, technical and full of heart. A special chapter devoted exclusively to his personal and professional relationship with Eddie Van Halen would make the book even more special and epic.
I enjoy everything Luke has his fingerprints on; the music, his humor, his amazing autobiography. One of the most humble LEGENDS in music. Some kids wanted to be John Wayne or GI Joe or whatever when you played pretend. I wanted to be Steve Lukather.....still do.
A few years ago I bought a Music Man LIII on kind of a whim. I have been a long supporter of their guitars and the specs also just worked for me. Fast forward to now and it’s still my number one. Mr. Lukather is one of the most recorded guitarists in history for a reason... if you can’t get the sound you want out of this guitar then go back to the woodshed. Thank you for this episode!
I love Luke and Landau. Of all the things he said my favourite was " I'm glad I'm old ". Now that his getting older his playing is gettin' even better.
Thanks guys! I am grateful I met Steve at the first Jason Becker ALS benefit show in '96. It was a Great time ( I was working for CNN at the time and produced 2 stories on Jason.
Luke’s talking like the best is behind him, the BEST is yet to come, just a weird season right now, and it will pass. Truth is that if your career ended 40 years ago you already accomplished more as a musician, writer, than anybody. Keep chargin’ strong, stay healthy, and congrats on being a stand up dad.
Love Luke. Tone master. Tone god. Guitar god. Studio god. Vocal god. Writing god. Arrangement god. Toto god. Red light god. Session god. Great sense of humor. Met him once so humble kind and down to earth. Called Larry Carlton his sensei. Saw him with Toto and los tres amigos I think at bb kings in Manhattan. Live god.
Only time I met Luke I was 19...he scared the shit outta me cuz he was friggin Steve Lukather...then he killed me with his wicked humor...for MANY guitar players, he IS the G.O.A.T.
Love where this shows caliber is headed. And thank goodness Steve’s internet connection wasn’t like Bill Kelliher’s borrowed, neighbors, WiFi connection 😀
What an hilarious bloke he is !! Love his sense of humour which is basically me in a nutshell!! Because I’m a non serious fucker too !! Speaks his mind, and whether people like it or not .... honesty is the best policy !!

Just a great interview with Luke! Dig the channel! Dave Friedman you stay safe with your exposure!
A few heavy shots were fired! That spontaneity will have made some people pin their ears back and duck in the streets. Sounds like SL's genuine persona has been taken advantage of a lot throughout his career. Interesting that it comes out this way, not even out of malice, just history unraveling, getting stirred up and bringing some of the funk back to the surface where it belongs. He's a bit tweaked from the rock star era yet his warm, sensitive nature shines through with vigor. Super nice guy and hell of a musician!
Great episode....we are all "ruled by consequences" COVID19. Faith, persistence, and patience my friends. We will overcome......keep those fingertips hard Dudes.
I don’t care if Steve sells guitar picks at Sweetwater head quarters, I will buy it. He has had a life long career with and around people my dad would tell me about as a kid. I wish someone would be with him and film him from time to time. I always look up him and Joe Walsh weekly.
Luke. My life inspiration from Day Dot. A massage Hello and love from the Uk. I cannot wait for Luke’s next solo tour and album. Love Peace and good health from Johnny and Oscar the Saint Bernard
So so many years ago I did pre-production guitar work for a song by a DJ named Brandmeier from back east. I heard he was billed as the Howard Stern of Chicago, which is neither here nor there but, the fun part for me was Luke was coming in with other heavy hitters to do the finish track. I worked with the producer and engineer and came up with the parts, a heavy 5ths part, a sympathetic part 2 that, some clean chord stabs, main solo, outro solo. And they really wanted me to wail on it. It took me 4 hours and I made a couple hundred bucks. But the best part is I heard when Luke heard it, he said what are you getting me for this guy is killing it. I think the song was called 'what's up with that. I'm still on cloud nine from that, especially as my hands can barely make a 6/9 chord without wincing in pain. It only took him 2hrs.
Luke is the greatest. Don’t ever think these kids today didn’t learn everything from all the best including you. Doubt most could be a true session player. It’s 3 yrs later and Luke is better than ever!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When I saw Luke's discography of everything he's played on when I bought The Gospel According To Luke (HIGHLY recommend) I was dumbfounded. Literally almost every good album you can think of from the 70s-90s
Brutally honest. I gotta a lot of respect for the apology to Billy Corigan. It takes a big man to do that live, directly to Billy himself, with a huge radio audience listening.
@@82907 Sorry, I have no idea where it is in this video timestamp-wise. But Steve talks about how he apologized to Billy while on the radio in Chicago. Billy is from Chicago, so that apologizing there was even more stand up.
@@jppagetoo Cool, I've got the mellom collie guitar tab book, and in the intro pages billy write a section about steve. Both are great musicians, and an inspiration to all guitar players.
you guys need to have Luke and Steve Farris on together. i find both of these guys so interesting to listen to, they just talk without any hangups, just seems to me an honest discussion from both of them

The Gospel According To Luke. Love this man! God Bless you Luke

Steve is one of the 5 greatest guitar players in the world (for me).
No need to qualify that statement. He IS one of the 5 best in the world.
Your statement is correct.

Steve Freakin' Lukather!!!! I would have loved to have seen this live! Dude is my favorite player ever.

HH or HSS? I’m thinking about getting one and have to decide, thanks!
