Yeah obviously people steal stuff in NYC, any expensive escooter in NYC is going to get jacked and no bricking them won't stop them, the thieves know what chip to swap out if it gets bricked they also steal the scooters for parts the rentals are the absolute cheapest
People are using scooters because they don't like helmets and they are incredibly safe because you are standing up, a crash won't hurt anyone because they are too small and if you do drive into a tree you can just jump off the scooter and land on your feet But the biggest thing is insurance and registration Getting a drivers license means you need to hire a driving instructor unless you have someone willing to lend you a car and babysit you while you learn how to drive, So you are looking at like 5 -> 10 classes at $100 each so 500 -> 1000 Then driving exam and all the licensing and application fees will run you another 200 afterwards you need to pay 200 a month for insurance So thats going to cost you $1200 a year for a car in insurance, over 10 years thats 12,000 And then theres the gas fees, you are probably renting and won't have a garage to charge your EV a electric scooters electricity consumption is negligible you are wheeling around a 30 lb scooter and not a 4000 lb car A electric scooter you can just drop 200 ->1000 and thats it no insurance, no registration, no parking and it gets you from point A to point B. It gets you to the grocery store and back , it gets you to your work and back. And its far safer than a bicycle This is a GODSEND to poor people, because they can now save up money to buy a house etc...
Why can't they have large wheels??? I hate the small wheels, the only other worst ride are skateboard wheels... Ah yes they do need parking structure...
This model is tough to work because people are complete shit. Aside from safety issues, riding without a helmet, riding with 2 or 3 people on 1 scooter, a lot of first time riders not knowing how to control it, running into pedestrians and cars, people also trash these scooters because they can get away with it. The other problem is that businesses renting out scooters are barely profiting because they have to keep repairing, replacing and maintain the scooters.
Why would I give u my channel? First off I haven't posted because I been in Florida for the past 2 months and I haven't been riding but I'm back now and riding season just started so I'll be posting again!
