what these people are forgetting, is that if Concord was any good, it would have lasted longer than a couple of weeks, it would have had more than a couple of dozen people playing concurrently, and it would have sold more units. one doesn't need to play a game to say it was bad, we only need to look at the statistics to give us a clear indication of how bad it was, 25,000 units sold, not making a single cent on the game due to refunds, it took 8 years for it to be produced and 8 days to perish. Concord was a game released in the wrong era, when most gamers don't want to touch hero shooters.
Looking at concord makes me think that Overwatch only got so popular but also failed as soon as ovw2 was out, is the blizzard name / fanboys abd the sheer amount of porn thst was made of that game. As someone that played Quake a lot back in the day and later Team Fortress 2 tournaments back in the day. It was always clear what class is approaching and even after the hat simulator update kept it clear and concise. Overwatch was always too visually noisy to me abd ut didn't offer anything new coming from tf2.
Tbf, Overwatch had a bunch of actually good character designs as well. But yeah, I do think there was way more circumstances to Overwatch that made it sell well. OW2 did not do well at all by comparison. The Blizzard name was probably a big part of Overwatch's success. However, it was also introducing a new genre which helped matters. A big combination of factors led to Overwatch's success, none of which were guaranteed to success with copycats.
