Hey guys. I love you all. None of my friends listen to Bon Iver. I feel alone. Here, I find people of my own. I feel the comfort. Update:Thank you. Thanks to all of you. I didn't expect this much love. I thought no one would notice my comment as usual. I was wrong and Im thankful to God that I was proven wrong. I wish I could meet each and everyone of you and share hugs. I will always remember this song. The song that introduced me to hundreds of people from around the world. I wish each and everyone of you a happy life ahead. From now on, whenever I will feel alone, I will remember you guys. That Im not alone. I have people of my own everywhere. Thank you everyone. I love you guys, I swear.
Same here! Bon Ivers Music is so unusual, I've never heard anything like it. You don't just listen to it, you feel it. Maybe that puts some people off, you either get it or you don't, and I think that's a rather beautiful thing. :) You're not alone, lots of love to you.
It's been said many times before, but this sounds like the culmination of all of his work. I think Justin has finally found his own, wildly unique sound.
this might be it, I think this is the one, the one after all these years, this is the one. This is what he was made to make. I can't imagine life without this song.
"And we have to know that faith declines. I'm not all out of mine" ....what deeply beautiful lyric. It has such an intimate value, yet it feels universally relatable
Everytime I come back to a Bon Iver song, there's that feel that makes me know it's gonna be overwhelming, not in a bad way. It's like a big journey you know you're gonna undertake. You know there's gonna be a lot of research in the sound design, and as a musician, I'll first question whether it's gonna be genuine, whether it's truly gonna come from the heart and not try to appear intelligent. And though the cleverness is always there, with Bon Iver, it hits you right in the heart. You can hear sounds you've been familiar with over the previous albums, the love of the saxophones, the distinctive guitars, Justin's doubled voice and great vocal range, soothing low vocal notes and aerial falsetto. That sound is a sound that takes years to master. The perfect amount of control and of things left to chance. The clumsiness and vulnerability, playing effortlessly with the skills, the knowledge. I love that the abstract lyrics are spoken with such faith. That's what makes their music so great. That ability of making something clever and emotionally strong at the same time. I just love it.
I feel like Justin Vernon faced some REAL heavy darkness... but turned it into song that helps others. Beautiful and why he's my favorite artist. And why Bon Iver is a beauty to listen to in any occasion. God bless 🙏 thank you
Yesterday, I wrote the first verse for my new project (after staring at a blank screen for weeks) and one of the lines that came out was "What can be done to give a tongue to the coward, to speak aloud the troubles of Faith?" then this coming out the next day is such a beautiful and affirming synchronicity, which I can add to the list of magic that Bon Iver has contributed to my life.

Amber Henningsen so this track deals with both religious faith (belief in God, etc) as well as general faith that things will get better. I think the line “there is no design” makes it clear that he has lost his religious faith but the hopeful tone of the track seems like he hasn’t lost hope for the world at large yet.

Wonderful people come here together. I love you guys even thought I don't know you.. It's amazing how I value the people here more than most of my actual friends. Let's meet again in every good side of RUclips such as Bon Iver.
I've been listening to this album all day yesterday. And this song always gets to me. For me, it's his Holocene for "i,i". I know he has given up his Christian faith, but I love how he continues to write beautiful songs that wrestle with humanity, love, uncertainty and faith.
This song is tremendous. I myself am religious, but that's not what this song is about! The line that truly stick out is: "This for my Sister That for my Maple (which sounds an AWFUL lot like 'Maker') It's not knowing the road I'd known as a child of God..." He's finding faith in the simple humanity and connection that we all share as beings. And that brings Him joy, even without traditional 'Faith' in a higher power. He knew the road as a person that believes in God (a child of God), but now he doesn't know the road, but he's still walking it and helping those around Him. Seriously, a breathtaking song. Heavenly Father and 8(circle) are probably still my favorites, but this has jumped in immediately as a contender.
At 2:24 , The lyrics on the screen wrote “i did my believing - seeing every time”. He’s actually singing “do i believe in seeing every time?”. So if you read the lyrics and sing that out instead, you basically believed in seeing. Idk if im crazy but thats just my interpretation.
Jake Johnson Interesting thought. I’ve always sang it as “do I believe in seeing every time?” before seeing this video. But rather than believing in seeing the way you describe, I tend to think it becomes a renunciation of the written lyrics, which state that belief is in the past (“I did my believing...”), and turn it into a present conflict (a question: “do I believe in...?”), which takes an idea of faith he may have thought he’d lost, or buried with his past, and turned it into a new sort of spiritual questioning he’s contending with now, “i’m not all out of mine.”
Lynn Wallish never heard of that song or band before but its definitely interesting to see similarities between bon iver’s music and other bands because of how unique bon iver is (in my opinion)
There is something in this song that empowers me. Brightness and a bit sorrow all over the song. Really a brilliant song. Thank you, Bon Iver. It's so nice getting to listen to Faith.
Idk why but this song moves me like no other...maybe it’s cause I feel like my faith in everything has hit an all-time low and this song makes me feel less alone. Everything about this song is perfect and the lyrics holds truth that only wisdom can bring, that faith is something that ebbs and flows but you’ve got to hang on.
God drew my attention to this comment. God loves you Cortez. I can see this was 3 years ago, I don't know where you are at now but I pray that you know Jesus and His love for you, that you are growing in a relationship with him, and if you do not yet know Jesus I pray for your reunion, your homecoming. Simon Farr yes I understand that - but I think that is the point. All of Bon Iver’s album artwork has had lyrics that have been difficult to read - and even when one could read them, difficult to decipher meanings. I’ve long felt that the lyrics are chosen for the sound they convey with the music rather than being chosen to explicitly say something. Or the lyrics are so personal to Vernon that for the listener it’s impossible to grasp the original meaning and instead require you attach your own meaning. Either way, it seems to me that Bon Iver’s lyrics are often presented in a difficult to consume form - presumably that’s deliberate.

I've always said that Justin could stop mid song, drop trou, and take a big steaming shit on his guitar, and he would still manage to make it the most beautiful shit ever.
This is ridiculous. How can a person capture such beauty and bring it to fruition into sonic paradise? Justin Vernon has to credit angels with this songwriting.

2:06 on...just sensational! 😍
In days like these, when I'm in deep physical and emotional pain, I come back to this gem. This song gives me all the strength I need, thanks Justin❤️
This feels like a perfect mix between previous albums... very excited for new music
So. Much. LOVE!!
It's kinda freeing when you've spent your whole life desperately missing your true home and you reach the place when you stop feeling guilty for it
On behalf of my countrymen, thank you Justin and the Bon Iver Movement. Love from South Africa.
FINALLY ONE MILLION VIEWS! Deserves a lot more.
im fan
Everytime a new song comes out, the days gets better :D
"It's not knowing the road I'd known as a child of god" hit me like a ton of bricks (And I have no idea of what it even means). You access something deep inside me Bon Iver. Thank you!
Damnit Justin, again 2 incredibly awesome songs. I don't think he's ever released something that was even close to being meh. He is just so fucking good.
Yeah dude even with his gazillion bands!!
Love the Nerd Herd DP!
@H.W i was a fan way before i watched chuck, but that his music is in chuck makes the series so much better in my honest opinion
@@mathildeb2710 Yeah i mean, volcano choir, big red machine, etc. are really awesome.
I've always said that Justin could stop mid song, drop trou, and take a big steaming shit on his guitar, and he would still manage to make it the most beautiful shit ever.
I'm really really enjoying this song right now! Amazing energie at 1:40. Thanks Justin Vernon and team!
Thanks for restoring my soul.
The best thing they've done since 2011. By far.
This song reminds me that faith is VERY important! ❤❤❤
peace + love.
We need Bon Iver to come to Detroit, I'd instantly buy tickets.
It feels peaceful listening to this song
You've mastered capturing music's feeling into visuals and I'm so blessed to witness that :)
Amazing song and message. Thank you Justin and everyone involved for creating connections in a world so disconnected. Love you guys
New Bon Iver music is the best ever!
This is ridiculous. How can a person capture such beauty and bring it to fruition into sonic paradise? Justin Vernon has to credit angels with this songwriting.
At least this time they didn't make us wait like forever to hear new awesome creations..
Bon Iver's songs are so nostalgic and heartwarming.
The love of my life is getting married to someone else....So thank you, Justin. I needed this more than ever during this shithole of a year. Thanks for lifting me up!
I am tragically sorry to hear that keep your head up ⬆
@@glorytoGod117 thanks! I will try!
You're the greatest detail of our era. I really pleased to live at the same age as you.
Hope everyone has a good winter.
Existing roads were shared between the two of us. We grew up apart but with like minds. Bless you for bringing what you have to the valley. You are loved.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate this isn't monetized? He doesn't want us to have to listen to an ad before the song.
this song is fucking beautiful man. the part that goes "so what if I lose? im satisfied" gives me chills
Seems like 22, A Million ist followed by another masterpiece
This already means so much to me after listening to it just once. I love how Justin is able to do that with his lyrics. Faith can mean so many things, but for me, this one's about having the faith to live and keeping faith that one day you'll be okay.
This saved my life. Thank you Bon Iver! ❤️
Traveling 20 hours to watch you perform, thank you for making music that keeps me fighting
Verse 1]
Shattered in history
Shattered in paint
Oh, and the lengths that I'd
Stay up late
But brought to my space
The wonderful things I’ve learned to waste
[Verse 2]
I shoulda known
That I shouldn't hide
To compromise and to covet
All what's inside
There is no design
You’ll have to decide
If you'll come to know if I'm the faithful kind
[Verse 3]
Time and again
(Got all that I need)
Time to be brave
Content to the phrases
That at dawn, we ain't mazes
Just some kind of pages
[Verse 4]
This for my sister
That for my maple
It's not knowing the road I'd known as a child of God
Nor to become stable
(So what if I lose? I'm satisfied)
[Bridge]
Am I dependent in what I'm defending
And do we get to know what faith provides?
Fold your hands into mine
I did my believing
Seeing every time
[Outro]
I know it’s lonely in the dark
And this year’s a visitor
And we have to know that faith declines
I'm not all out of mine
I feel like this new album is gonna be a perfect marriage between the last two albums. Acoustic guitars and synths all day, everyday.
