Great to see what went wrong. You guys could do with fitting a baffled sump, to keep oil round the pickup pipe or change the pickup pipe location. Before you fit any engine back in the car.
Man, this is literally the exact thing that happened to me. 50k-ish miles, rod bearing failure, crank shaft was eff'd, and sleeve had scoring. Glad you're already making moves to get back on the track!
Could be an oil starvation isssue? Might have to go with a custom dry sump pump or aftermarket oil pan
@@UnrelatedNonsense it totally could've. Like Dustin, I didn't have an oil temp or oil pressure sensor and most of my miles are on the track so it could've been problems compounded over time. I've since rebuilt the motor and added a baffled oil pan. I also changed the weight of the oil to withstand higher temps to avoid it thinning out during competition (per the recommendation of 4 Piston).
@@Jepps_CTR What weight and brand of oil you using?

Glad to see it’s not catastrophic and an easy fix, excited to see it built and better than ever and where it continues to go!#MadeItTheEnd!!
Let's go always enjoying the content keep up the great work Dut!!!💯💯🙌
Awesome video as always Dustin. Can't wait to see the FK8 back and more powerful and ever.
Glad you guys found out the issue. Troubleshooting Master Tim always on point. Good luck on the built brother🤙💯
Always a vibe when you upload ❤️
#madeittotheend. Great work on getting the engine removed and ready for the rebuild. I am having my RB26 rebuilt right now because of a blown turbo that caused engine failure. Best of luck on the rebuild🛠
Good news out from a bad situation. Relieved to see the piston, rod and block is in good condition.
For a dedicated track car u should always have those key things you mentioned baffled pan, oil temp and oil pressure.
Love your videos ! I can’t wait to get into cars also !
Perfect time to get the R32 back! Love that build!
Things happen for one reason. Be back better and strong 💪🏻
Thanks for your hard work love what you do. Fk8 rules
Love the color scheme and design of your new launch.
Thank you for keeping FK8 alive!
Sad to see something happen to the fk8 but love to sees the homies working on the engine and trans lol it’s like the best mechanic class we could have , that drain plug is awesome
I had to buy the good luck charm for my collection. Looks so good ❤
Good stuff! I vote 4 Piston for the new rebuild!
just got earlier to watch da video MUCH love and support from PUERTO RICO!!! We legend!!!
I'm not 100% sure if the ctr has a delay valve in the slave cylinder but if it does you need to delete it. I did it in my tl and it made a world of difference when I was speed shifting. The delay valve also prematurely wore out my clutch because it's designed to make the clutch slip a little bit to make it easier to drive.
Get the turbo rebuilt too! If you had metal in your motor it's in your turbo as well
PRL is already on it 👍🏼
Weld up, refinish the crank and order a set of aftermarket rods. Look into a baffled pan with a new pickup
Tim is the best!
Randomly started watching his content
but got addicted to these sick videos
Great Man
Love from India
❤🔥
Thanks for watching man 🙌🏼
Install a dry sump oil system Dustin, that should prevent your soon to be rebuilt new engine from re blowing up on P Turn 15 Curcuit de americas next time.
Tim The GOAT
@ 10:06 ayyy Duts dance to the BGM beats 😆
you should do a legends drop featuring your old 9th gen si!!!! just picked up the new cream togue hoodie! keep up the great work
Devin is doing a k24 AWD-swapped fk8 on his channel.. this is what everyone should be doing that wants an Fk8 with a bit of power and to have fun..
Tim is such a goat
Built K24 with a turbo and you are ready to go again 😎😄
Amazing Content ever
Well the K20C1 is quite famous for failing head-gaskets here in germany.
As we have more expierience, because the same Motor is used in the FK2R some time longer. There are multiple Motors with that issues, FK8 too.
It's due to shaking cylinders caused by the open-deck-construction.
Stronger gasket & head stuts don't help, only block-guard or sleeves are a solution.
& on long term the vibritions cause the cylinders to crack...
Maybe our Autobahns speed up those failures, as our cars are driven longer on speeds 130+ mph.
It happend to Motors without mapping from 35k miles on.
I know a modified k20c1 which had his worn out gasket replaced by a Athena gasket with arp headstuts & 3,5k miles later the gasket failed again plus cracks in cylinder 1 & 4 on top of it. Stock turbo with 450 hp & 650 nm @ crank.
Just wanted to let u know as the Motor is out anyways...
the motor fk8 isn't good?!
@@JoaoSilva-in5bx in germany the open-deck-problem is well know among forum-, WhatsApp- & Facebook-discussions. Maybe we get the Problem earlier, as we are allowed to run unlimited speeds on Autobahn.
It appeared on FK2R 1st & then on FK8 too & will on FL5 too, the block remains the same. There is a new head-gasket, as honda changed the part-number, but gasket-failure isn't the problem, it's only the symptom. The cylinders are shaking, destroying gasket 1st, if the Problem isn't fixed the cylinders crack.
The Problem is, that the cars run fine, showing no visual signs (unlike Focus RS mk3, with their White exhaust gas).
Detection is kind of tricky:
1st coolant can get tested for co2
2nd minimal coolant loss
3rd short coolant overheating error (as the exhaust Gases create bubbles of heat at Temperaturesensor)
The Motor runs fine even with cracked cylinders showing signs of damage really really late.
1st owners tried fixing it with upgraded gaskets like ones from "athena" combined with arp studs, but they were weared off too. On 2nd head-gasket-failure most Blocks already showed cracks in cylinders.
Accusump 1qt 👍 I have that in my Evo5rs, best for engine safety
timbro is a legend, soo knowledgeable. would love to smoke a J with him.
Dustin it's nice find the problem of the engine
Time for a 4Piston motor ❤
Finding out Tim was a subie tech gained a whole bunch of respect from me
Great to see you making the best of a crap situation! Onwards and upwards as they say
Time for a baffled pan I guess. Forged internals for the build? Hope to see the 32 back on track again soon too.
when you are rebuilding it you should do a stroker kit on it and bore it iout to 2.2l instead of the 2.0l
Dut! I wanna see a build for Timbro! 😅
i love the CTR.
Tim bro 🐐
If I would suggest anything it would be invest in either a wet or dry sump to help with the oil starvation. Otherwise I don't know what else you guys could have done to prevent what happened.
A baffled oil pan works just fine
Dry sump is OVER kill for a bolt on typeR
In the last video I said for sure it was oil pan / baffle & pick up related. Somebody said “ThE tYpE r OiLiNg SyStEm is GrEaT” I’m sure bro is an expert 😂 It’s a FWD car that has a lot more slosh due to longitudinally mounted engine during high speed turns and Gs. One of the first upgrades to a FwD track focused car is the oil pick up and better baffling in the oil pan. Also judging by the play in cylinder 4 after you shook cylinder 1 (blown rod bearing) it sounds like cylinder 4 was lose and next to fail regardless. It’s better now anyway knowing it was probably beat to ish by the previous owner and now you can truly make it track focused building the engine. Should be a tank once it’s all done. Look forward to seeing it rip
I got confused, I thought are in Japan now since youre in Larry Chen's video in Japan posted an hour ago. Haha. Can't wait for ur typeR cars Vs the GR corolla Vs 400z on the track!
Need to take it to jsr engines
I think Devin Niemela has an engine for you since he won't need it anymore.
Now I know where Devin Niemela's engine is going :))
Hey where's that GR Corolla!? That thing is amazing
I'm not sure whether the shaky video is part of your style. But I think it is too shaky and almost induces motion sick. I would suggest to use a stablizer, such as a DJI Ronin RS3.
I knew someone had to of had it tuned b4! Not many will remain stock ND you gotta verify all that b4 buying any used car these days unfortunately... I really like ur mechanic tho he's def one of the nicest mechanics
Maybe you should race a GTI R, that would be an interesting mix up in your garage.
Look into Unit 2 Fabrication Baffle Oil Pan 👍
Make sure to put a baffled sump in
Soo since Tim works on a lot of subarus, can he help me fix mine? hahaha jk love the vid Dustin!
I plan on going to Cota this year and will probably take all the sweepers with extreme caution. Already lost a motor once, can’t happen again
I think I found a perfect match. Devine niemela just polls out a k20 from his build and he doesn't need it and my boy Dustin williams looking for a stock k20. I don't know what do you see but I see a perfect match.
Dustin, what viscosity of oil were you using? The 0w20 that Honda "recommend" is used for fuel economy and emissions reasons, and it thins out too much at temperature during track use. Many people who track civics switch to 5w30, to prevent this
10w30 VR1
@@dustiinw fair enough, not that then. Probably previous damage or oil starvation, like you suggested.
Unit2fab has a full baffled oil pan for the fk8
lets gooooo!!!!! #MadeItToTheEnd
well at least its not terrible news, still salvageable ... and all the plans you have for the type-R she's gonna be one hell of a monster... glad to see what went wrong with it.... #domore2023
It’s gonna be rad man!
Unfortunately I didn’t have the same luck I put a French door on my K20C1 motor….
Since the sub frame is out you should change the front sway bar.
Oil starvation - bearings go bye bye. I trust it will be back better than before in no time. #madeittotheend
🔥
Definitely run an improved oil pickup, with an oil baffle plate. Good luck with the rebuild. It'll come back better and stronger. 💪
Should be on dry sump given its a track car.
@@rhysbertrand8903 a guy has to start somewhere. Dry sump system is expensive as hell, almost as much as an entire engine. Oil baffling and an upgraded pickup, is a perfectly good start as a privateer track car. But hey, If a dry sump can be afforded with baller money? Sure, absolutely... Oil is the life blood of any engine.
@@Nozarashi86 ??? He literally owns a million dollar house and a massive work shop, 3 gtrs, two civic r, etc etc. I'm sure a dry sump on his time attack car that he now has to get a new motor for is a good insurance policy. He would make more money on the dry sump video than it would cost.
Who is building your transmission? And does anyone manufacture upgraded transmission internals yet?
Hey Dustin I have a random question about the grill how did you install it and how did you reinforce it? In the beginning I have a gap later on the it sagged and later on it cracked in a few places just want to know if you have an type of tips or any information on it
Do you think the motor could have blown from your recent tune when tuning on 100 octane or was it more likely from the previous Hondata tune where the previous owner could have done more than just a Hondata tune?
If anyone else has any ideas, please chime in. Thanks!
Also great content Dustin! Especially loving the Japan vlogs with friends :)
Yes. Powermetrics tunes are known for blowing up the 10th gen community engines. A LOT of people will agree. I come from that community. I have seen a lot from that. No if and or buts about it. He needs to go get a Derek Robinson tune, where he will actually make real, reliable power. His car was really underpowered with high boost for whatever reason with his mods. Not going balls to the wall and it blew right after his Powermetrics tune. He needs to do more research rather than seeing one option and going with it. Just like him swapping his HKS for real mods like PRL for his Type R.
@@jrizzyjoe powermetric tunes aren’t known for blowing up cars lol. it is an aggressive off the shelf tune and many know that. drob cars have also blown up cars and it is much more of a hassle to do etuning.
SpeedFactory? 4 piston racing? Perhaps some one to re build it?😎
as I told you about the bearings, that's all you could have done, the seal is the engine on the car, 2 hours of work, if the bearing has eaten the crankshaft, it can be adjusted on the spot
😅
Is that a oil drain bleeder valve? Where do you buy one of those?
Hey Dustin we shot you a DM on IG about working with you on some products we've developed for the FK8. Give us a holler after you you've had some time to think it over. Keep up the great work!

E-Man!
Dustin… hit up Devin Niemela. He just pulled his k20c1 outta his type r and probably won’t need it since he’s doing an AWD conversion.
so the new type r has the oil pressure guage in it but the fk8 dosnt have the same guages as new one? i thought the fk8 had guages stock
Your boy Devin has a new type r motor for sale.
Made it to the end
You need a baffled oil pan, oil temp and pressure sensors
#Allways make it to the end.

Geaux Tigers!
Its look like what…? Its look like what Tim??😂
Was kinda hoping to see a call made to Jomoto-San for a Spoon engine
Without pulling the rod cap you can’t actually tell if it was metal shavings which spun the bearing or oil starvation…. If it were metal you could see the scaring on the ring starvation would show a ton of heat also if there are chunks you more than likely had debris
Sounds like an oil pan with trap doors and major baffling is in your future.
Devins got a motor 🤷🏽♂️
#madeittotheend LET'S GO!!!
My fk2R Has a oiltemp and oilpressure gauge from Factory in the extra settings do you say they removed this with the fk8?
Yes, they did.
Spun bearing…that my guess
So unfortunate that happened man. That had to be extremely frustrating, especially after doing quality track mods to make it reliable :(
Stock sump and pick up is the most obvious thing you replace for a track build. Idk how this was missed
Js racing valve cover??
Don't know if this is any help, but the hinda civic sport has the exact same engine as the fk8. Not sure if the engine itself has upgrades but maybe it's an option?
No they don't wtf. Sports have 1.5L l15 engines. The closest to the type r k20c1 is the accord's k20c4
did you give up on r32 as a race car?
get the CTR crate engine from honda
I know when you first got the car, I heard it ticking and didn’t sound right. Is that just normal for these type Rs?
Yes it is
When are we going to see some more R32 content Dustin?
Next week 👍🏼
@@dustiinw Awesome thank you 👍 have a great weekend 😉
