Lyrics:
Farmers got some cheap land
Bought it around the plains, they all had some big plans
(but) they over plowed all their fields
Took out all the topsoil, and deep-rooted grasses
Yeah, they thought the plow would bring rain
But rain never came, and this lasted for years
1930s, the wind picked up
And it darkened the sky, and it wouldn’t let up
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, outrun the dust
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, before the dust comes
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, outrun the dust
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, before the dust comes
The Dust Bowl made for dark days
It would it make seem late, in the middle of days
And it made the air hard to breathe
Could not escape Black Blizzards even going inside
And they would travel miles
You could see the Dust Bowl as far as New York City
Forced thousands to ‘bandon farms
The Okies left everything to head to California
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, outrun the dust
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, before the dust comes
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, outrun the dust
All the citizens move away from the Plains
You better run, better run, before the dust comes
MrBettsClass Phillip DeFranco parody about the Underground Railroad and Gold Rush:
• WOW! Underground Railr...
Ok, I know I don't do parody songs very often, but lately it seems like a lot of my subscribers have really not seemed to like them. How do you feel about these parody songs? Be honest.
Is there some kind of perverse irony to the fact that they don't rhyme? I would like them so much more if your lyrics rhymed. Other than that, your SCOTUS briefs and election recaps are wonderful.
haha yes, I don't rhyme with this song because most of the original lyrics of this song are not rhymed
Fair enough, although I do think that its a lost opportunity. rhyme is pleasing to the ear. I did notice that the call me maybe parody also didn't rhyme (Whereas Carlyrae's original did: crazy/maybe)
I would say the hierarchy of pleasing lyrics is:
1. rhymes and is clever/creative
2. rhymes
3. is clever/creative
I rather you just teach a slideshow about the topics at hand
I didn't enjoy "Great Migration", however this one worked better than most. There was some solid information in the lyrics and you had a better song to work with. The historical visuals were well chosen. If you have fun doing these, you should continue-- they aren't going to thrill us history buffs, but they could hook a casual viewer into learning about a specific, important topic that would otherwise make their eyes glaze over.
My Texas history teacher showed this to us lowkey a vibe
My nerd self is screaming rn
*1920s kid*: “I got all the topsoil”
*Other 1920s kid*: ALL THE CITIZENS, MOVE AWAY FROM THE PLAINS, OUTRUN THE DUST
Late to the video, its been years since I’ve seen one…but this is stellar! @iammrbeat please do more of these!
This was epic

+Shannon Beat Thank you Shannon Beat
I think my teacher would be uncomfortable showing this song in class
It's my dirt! Eh-heh! No good, but it's - it's mine, all mine.
Your singing voice is awesome
By the way which States were affected by the Dust Bowl???
Well thank you :) I usually do some original songs, so I'm always out of comfort zone when I sing stuff from other singers.
Mostly states on the Great Plains- Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, and Nebraska were the main ones
Cool
The hit at 1:19 is hilarious. I wish I had a teacher that was pro-dirt throwing :D
+Cogito - Curiosity Visualised They were way too good at hitting me with dirt :)
You cleaned up the lyrics.

I sat through all those Ken Burns episodes and I could have just watched this instead.
Ikr! But you gotta admit Ken Burns is the (sh)it! 😂 I luv his documentaries.... 💯
I have a possible idea for a video series... see what you think of it. A series entitled, "But... What If..." The videos would consist of your opinion on what you think would happen if the winner of a presidential election had actually lost to the nominee of the other party. An example would be if McCain had won the election in '08 instead of Obama, you would explain how you think the economy would have recovered, as well as how other main issues in that election would have been handled had McCain won. Could be fun for some of the close races. Just an idea that popped into my head. I hope I'm not embarrassing myself here, lol
+zigmeala While I'm usually not a fan of alternate history, this idea does intrigue me. Thanks for the idea. I will ponder it!
My friend Jeff wants to know why
Because this will be stuck in my students' head for days. So the short answer is "torture."
Here's my version ...
Bobby’s stuck in quicksand
He'll look around the Earth, he won't tell you his plan
He's got an OLD Fallacy
Hanging out with his peers, he's an OEF* kid
He found that dissing YES** is fun
In his dad's day the ancient Earth sings
And I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you
All the other kids with their trumped up tricks
You'd better run, better run, go fast Young One
All the other kids with their trumped up tricks
We'd better run, we can kick but we can’t pull it
Daddy hawks a long age
He gives the rocks a date - it’s an Old Earth date
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause winners date the planet and it's packed in ice***
Earth’s waited for a long time
With the sleight of my hand Earth Age is so much bigger
I reason so they all forget
And say, "Your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits"
*Old Earth Fallacies
**Young Earth Science

I LIKE TO YEET AND DAB WHEN I LISTEN TO EPIC PARODDY'S FUCK
Wow! I didn’t realize there was a history nerd equivalent of the many political song parodists (the most well known being *Randy Rainbow)* and the science nerd channels such as *ASAPscience* (uses instruments) and *acapellascience* (as the name implies, _a cappella_ - among other things, he’s done a parody of this same source song [“Pumped-Up Kicks”] about black holes called “Puffed-Up Cores” [♪♫ All the oth-er stars with their | puffed-up cores, they bet-ter | run, bet-ter run, } out-run my pull. ♫♪[).
@Mr. Beat
I know this is 3 years old but... In one of the comments you do say what the song lyrics are. Question why this song over this song LMAO! Even my teacher was like Yeah I don' t know why this is the song he chose but yeah.
What did you choose that’s background is a school shooting
Come again?
Dorothea Lange :)
Your singing voice is reminiscent of Neil young
Mr Beat Can you do the Rosa Park supreme court case please?
There was no Rosa Park SC case. That was a federal case that led to the SC stepping in to declare the segregation laws in Alabama and Montgomery unconstitutional. So I don't know if that would fit into Supreme Court Briefs, but I could do a separate video about the Montgomery Bus Boycott
Mr. Beat Okay Mr Beat.Thanks!
Great depression era school massacre colorized
why is the supreme court guy doing music
I have about 60 videos on my channel that are history song music videos. You must be new.
I learned about the Dust Bowl from this but I don't really enjoy the song form with repeated lines, I prefer the information just laid out.
