You left quite a bit out my friend. Cook was a projected 1st round pick until a few things popped up. First his should injury against Maryland came under question. Then as a senior starting QB he was not voted as a Captain so teams began researching into and there were ALLEGEDLY some major character issues. He hit the main stage against Alabama and played poorly. These things resulted in his draft stock plummeting and landing with the Raiders. As you said he was 3rd on the depth chart which means zero reps. He played fair as a starter with limited preparation and reps. The following year McClain was cut but EJ Manuel was brought in and he was beat out as backup.
That's most of it he's spent time in the CFL and attempted the XFL before covid took storm.

    1) the bowl game and next season were months apart not next week.
    2) There was a pretty open competition for QB in 2013 until the Notre Dame game in which Connor struggled and was pulled. The Spartans lost to ND that year, their only loss of the season, but everyone seemed to agree Connor gave the Spartans the best chance to win. He never looked back. Just some feedback that although I really enjoy the story / background component of your videos (learning more about their lives) your analysis left something to be desired.
For a video titled “what happened to X”, I am expecting a more detailed analysis of behind the “why” of the “what” happened.
Just saying “he didn’t work out in the NFL” doesn’t give the viewer any new information. It would be great for you to give us some insight into the reasons why he didn’t work out. Even just 1 or 2 specific details would go a long way.

He was a good collegecQB. MSU has not fared that well in the NFL, and Kirk Cousin's 1 playoff win was the first and only for a Spartan QB. His time at MSU was the best since the mid-60s for the Green and White. It often boils down to the supporting cast that determines NFL success. Like most, football is not a permanent career, but many other possibilities for success and happiness. He never lost to Michigan, 2 B1G titles, 2 major bowl wins, and did get to the playoff, so pretty good college memories.

Cook was a very good qb but not a very good team mate witch is why he never got a lot of votes for team captain. If you watch most of MSU big wins, Cook never celebrates with his teammates right away but instead runs to go celebrate with his dad. A lot of NFL teams were worried about what influence his dad would have on his pro career.

Anybody who would’ve started that playoff game for the raiders would’ve been set up to fail. They had starting O-linemen out and the Texans blitzed HARD, and while cook wasn’t amazing his receivers dropped so many passes that game

Detroit messed up big not keeping cook as a backup. He was an amazing QB and deserved a chance

  • @freshrecord

Failed to mention that he faced the No. 1 defense when playing the Texans in his only NFL start. Think he may be an example of the rise and fall of confidence as well - he started his college career with a game winner followed by a 4 TD first half in his first start. It’s speculation, but there’s something to be said for getting off to a hot start and building up beliefs about yourself that you can buy into. Same in reverse regarding his game against the Texans. It’s a sad rise and fall story, but at least nobody can take his college glory days away from him.

You left out the most important stat for a QB his completion percentage which sucked like 48%, the average pro QB was about 60%.

His completion percentage in college was 58%, what are you talking about?

    • @popcorn-uz3tn
      @popcorn-uz3tn 3 года назад

@@pachzotter You are right and the avg QB drafted was higher as well. I remember it being a big concern when he was being drafted, he was an avg QB on a good team with a lot of talent. His second year he got to start and he was a huge flop and was traded year 3 and fired from the lions before the season started. He started 3 years + 2 games in college, with the extra games and college championships he played in 2 his stats are padded. He was not even the best MSU qb to play under Dantonio.

I kinda want to see how he does as a coach. I feel like cooks biggest strength is his football IQ. He understood the MSU offense and was able to use it to its fullest potential. I dont think he has the talent to be a starter in the NFL and age isnt on his side anymore but I think he was too good and smart to be out of football entirely

If he was drafted by a different team other than the Raiders he might still be playing in the NFL. I really do believe that if Dallas drafted him like they wanted to but the Raiders traded up to cut in front of Dallas theres a chance that he is the franchise quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and not Dax Prescott. Dallas offenses system suited him better and also learning the way the NFL quarterback played under Tony Romo and not Derek Carr would have been a hell of a lot better upgrade.

Just want to say that from what I remember, MSU's loss to Nebraska was very borderline. MSU had an illegal touching called on them that took away a big play. Later that game in the fourth, Nebraska scored or had a big play that was in my opinion, most definitely an illegal touching and therefore MSU should have won that game. Don't remember it very well because that was before I got into football but I remember it like that. Feel free to fact check this.

Connor Cook with the best quarterback from Michigan State I loved watching them who's awesome quarterback if the NFL teams that he played for what they gave him more reps before he got stuck into a wild-card game he probably would have done better and he probably still be in the NFL but just like Jeremy Langford they didn't give him enough chances to prove himself and then put them on the back burner his hands down Jeremy Langford is better than Le'Veon Bell

It wasn't mentioned that he lost out on the starting job in the XFL to XFL MVP PJ Walker in what was apparently a tight QB battle in camp. Connor would have started on any other XFL team. It was just a bad break!
