    Yo, Emma from Ohio. I found your channel when I saw the sweet pea trellis thumbnail. Ive watched all your videos. Because my hobby is growing from seeds. I whack out seeds pretty much every evening. I live right smack in the city, but my entire backyard is my garden. And I have an unheated glassed in porch i can use as a greenhouse. Love your videos.

    Hi Emma, i’ve Commented a few times about how much I love the vlogs. Things you’ve taught me this month.... Trust The Seeds! I usually spend so much time planning and thinking about how to plant my seeds perfectly that I miss the best of the planting season! Doh! You pointed out that seeds know what they’re doing and can figure it out! They don’t need me faffing to the nth degree! I can see them roll their eyes when I walk over! So I threw caution to the wind and just whacked in a load of seeds and hey presto.... the best hoard of toms onion, marigold, sunflower and sweet pea seedlings i’ve Ever had! Sorry Monty, love your advice to bits but sometimes, you’ve just got to whack stuff in!!!! 😂

    Hey Emma, fellow pond plant killer here 🙋‍♀️😂 I have lost so many, but highly recommend buying a bag of watercress from the salad section of the super market and just chucking it in! My pond is now full of plants and life, you just bung it in and after a week or so it grows roots 😁 it even produces tiny little white flowers 😍 also creeping jenny is great for growing around the edges to hide the liner. Hope your pond plants thrive 🥰 x

      @@emmasallotmentdiaries I was very sceptical about it when I read it online but it works so well!! You may need to wait for the water to be a little warmer for it to grow but absolutely worth a go! Word of warning if you shop online, read the bag properly before chucking it in... they gave me watercress and rocket instead, I didn't notice so had to sit with a little net and fish all the rocket back out 🤦‍♀️😂 x

    Keep the lead weight attached to the bunch of Densa Weed, so it sinks to the bottom and they will grow roots and multiply. When I had Koi I never put anything in to stop ice forming as all life will go to the bottom and become still, underneath the ice, then carry on as normal as it warms up. Loving your channel. You're doing good gal. Keep em coming. 💕

    I used to be a florist and Latin names were used so that anyone in any country could identify a plant. The example my teacher used to use was that a pansy in England is different than a pansy in America (apparently anyway) :)

    Hi Emma. I'm loving your bright and breezy approach to allotment gardening. You've had some top tips for pond plants.. agree leave the 'dead' ones in..almost everything in the pond dies off in the winter but comes back in the spring with vengeance. Surprised no one has mentioned your water level. To stop your liner from weathering and cracking you need to fill the pond right up to the stone line so the liner is covered. Hope that's useful😊

    Each plant has its depth to grow. I can't promise about the other plants but I did a watelily in my pond. And I did research: large varieties must sit 75cm under the surface, medium 50cm, small 20cm. If you place waterlily too deep it won't flower. If you place it too shallow they will die. My was dwarf waterlily and I placed it about 20-25cm deep. And it came back next year and I'm expecting them back this year again. Seeing your plants that shallow - I can feel why the death is coming up for them... Sorry, but you better deepen them down.

    • @NickSBailey
      @NickSBailey Год назад +2

      Some of the others were marginals (like the Juncus) and should be shallower, but definitely a water lily needs to be deeper, I was a plonker and planted our native giant water lily in a small pond, it was great for a couple of years then lily pads started rising out of the water lol :)

    Yes you're right your plants will create oxygen during the daytime if you haven't already they are good videos on RUclips to look at pond plants it will help you familiarise yourself with them😊 I like to use the notepad on my phone to jot down species of plants in Latin names any type of shell in water will make your water harder because of the calcium in the shell breaking down overtime so maybe that's something you would like to keep in mind if you're going to add fish in future some fish don't like hard water they might like softer water

    Sweetie, please put more rocks or stones from pond to the liner exposed on the edges. This will stop birds and baby birds, hedgehogs from drowning . The reason plants are in Latin is to identify the species, this tells you how that plant species grows, where on this planet it comes from so you can give plants the growing conditions they need.

    Don’t realy know if your pond is big enough or deep enough for water lilies ,they need probably more depth than you have to flourish ,a bag of stones from BQ 20m or 10m would have worked better on the pot tops and given more weight to keep pots in place and been much cheaper. The wire you took off the airiating weed was possibly the weight if lead to take it to the bottom to root instead of floating on the top as you put it in . LOL stop smacking your water garden plants, give them a chance to grow as they die down in the winter so don’t chuck to many pots out .
