I am an italian, I was born in Italy and I grew up in Italy and I also have italian friends but the problem is I do have moroccan roots .I started to work in a big company in north Italy and as soon as I say I am from morocco they start staring you in a certain way and after I presented my moroccan parents they all started to treat me differently. They don’t like the fact that I earn alot of money doing perfectly my job and not being fully italian . I feel like italians hate on anyone who is non-italian at this point. They also hate the italians from the south of Italy so it was normal for me to have them starting at me differently after saying I’m moroccan . Now after I have been to other countries I know that is not normal and italians are just racist people . I also want to add guys, I cannot wait to move out of this country for its stupid racism! I hate Italy

In Lake Como, the ticket clerks for boats and ferry in different ticket locations yelled at me for just asking a question which ticket to go to which destinations. There is a huge filipino community here and they are the asians and probably the immigrants who integrated best and receive very little criticism, second generation filipinos, even if they are still seen as filipinos and associated to some stereotypes are pretty well integrated compared to other groups, the problem now is that the anti china sentiment has gone up lot so the racists and ignorants might discriminate filipinos thinking they're chinese, also in the last 10-15 years italians became aware of the shaboo drug problem in the filipino community because italians started doing it too, meth was never a thing here before and people didn't know what it was so now filipinos might get some criticism cause they're seen as the ones bringing that drug into the country, but out of all the immigrants filipinos generally face very little criticism, they are seen as hard working, polite, law abiding and trust worthy, in fact most of the people working as house cleaners here are filipinos, so they generally get very little criticism (aside from shaboo and maybe a few people that had some stuff stolen by their filipino house cleaner).
There are almost no other east asians here aside from chinese and filipinos so filipinos might get discriminated by ignorant strangers thinking they're chinese, but the recent anti chinese sentiment is not that bad, chinese restaurants and shops are still very popular here, it's mostly a distrust towards chinese government and the idea that china is stealing our economy and trying to take over the world.

Yes i confirm this 100% It is the truth that "most" Italians won't admit it in words but through their stupid long gazes and awkward stares towards any foreigners.. I am from Tunisian origins and I have been traveling to several countries but currently in Italy because of my husband job . It has been a 3 years in Rome and I can't understand why many natives are rude to foreigners. I noticed this also from the tourists and visitors who comes by our restaurant located in Roma the center ,and they would complain from the same . Examples, one group from America they hated how lots of Italians don't speak with them English and insist to speak Italian with them, and they remarked why Italians stare awkwardly to your shoes or the way you dress and they give envy looks to you if you are better dressed or "elegant " which is very" ignorant " and "uncivilized " things to happen to a tourist. And because most of our customers are tourists or foreigners who live here in Rome and guess what not because our food is not good or something no no guys totally the opposite. But because the Italian racism is not only in the looks or the way they treat foreigners but also they are racist in food . Imagine that they don't eat pizza made by the hands of a foreign!! and the list is so long. To conclude I think that Italian must study more about Other Cultures and must Accept more the OTHER in general because we all have countries you know!! And we have other cultures living with us i harmony. in my country we treat tourists with all respect and speak with them in English or French or Italian or any other language without any racist reason.. I mean they really should be more tolerant!! Even the neighbors they would pass next to me not replaying my greetings IMAGINE. I tried hard to learn the language and integrate in society but they are putting boundaries already in their minds.. I mean me and my husband are planning to move to the UK in the near future. I can't stay here longer I am starting to have depression already from this situation!!!

      Top 10 worst:

      2) Italy - (Racism but worth it just a one-time visit to the archeological sites and the Vatican)
      3) Myanmar - (Food poisoning and unfriendliness in Bagan and Inle Lake but worth it for culture)
      4) Guyana - (Rough and scams but has the best fried rice I've ever eaten)
      5) Switzerland - (Racism from the older generation - most younger people are friendly)
      6) Israel - (Jerusalem is unfriendly but Tel Aviv is more friendly)
      7) Albania - (Food poisoning but people are very friendly)
      8) Sweden - (Unfriendly and some racism)
      9) Panama - (Expensive and money grabbing from those in the tourism industry but friendly locals)
      10) Turkey - (Snobby but archeological sites are worth it - I'd give it another chance)
      Top 10 best:
      1) South Africa - (Mind-blowing how beautiful the country is and people are friendly but has safety issues)
      2) Colombia - (Beautiful landscapes, friendly locals, good place to live, some safety issues)
      3) Thailand - (Overhyped that lives up to the hype, delicious food, friendly locals, but watch out for scams)
      4) Malaysia - (Amazing food, great nature and wildlife)
      5) Poland - (Friendly locals though they appear grumpy at first, good food)
      6) Scotland - (My favorite part of the UK, friendly locals, great desserts, amazing nature)
      7) Argentina - (Delicious food, beautiful nature, locals can be serious but overall friendly)
      8) Paraguay - (Underrated, beautiful nature, friendly locals)
      9) Vietnam - (Friendly locals who are direct and blunt and good food in some areas)
      10) Venezuela - (Super friendly locals, amazing nature, but dangerous)
Top 10 friendliest (in no particular order):

I'm Italian. I'm very sorry for what happened to you. My people have started to meet foreigners in our land only by just a few years ago. Therefore there are a lot of people (but still a minority fortunately) who do not like foreigners in general especially of other "races" (if we can call them like that since there is only one race). Anyway I hope you will change your mind. A bad experience in a country doesn't mean that it is racist. There are good and bad people everywhere. So I hope you will come back to Italy soon👍Our country is rich of history and culture and it would be a pity renouncing to explore it just because if some idiots.🇮🇹

Just spent 4 nights in Italy. Let's put it this way. They're friendly people are the same as friendly people anywhere else. Maybe even more friendly at times. Italians are culturally very warm and expressive. I was looking for leather in Tuscany and within 10 minutes of meeting,, this young gentlemen from Florence gave me 7 hides of leather he had laying around his house. By far the friendliest gesture I've received in Europe. The difference is in their rotten apples. Being more generally expressive as a group means that this racism will also manifest more clearly. In my opinion, they have the best of the best, and the worst of the worst. They will not reserve their feelings, whether it's love or hate. Italy is still a cool place rich in architecture and history. Is it worth going? Depends how thick your skin can be. Expect sub-par service here and there. 9 out of 10 times you are the only one saying Thank You when patronizing a business. Once you're mentally prepared and know what to expect, you'll be able to appreciate the better things that Italy has to offer.

    • @herewego9939

with the lady saying "niha" repeatedly, going by your accent, you sound like you're filopino, not chinese.
in 2021, we still have people lumping the whole continent of asia in with china and yet these very people would probably get their back up if someone referred to them as being from a different european country than their own.
just like most other western media outlets, i notice that there's a strong anti-china (and probably anti-everything else) angle to their "reporting" and i think it's no different in italy. they all regurgitate what every other western media outlet puts out. it's ironic, because it's probably china and asian countries spending the most on luxury italian goods and helping the italian economy through tourism. the lay person must only want to see what they want to see, which is negative bias.
does anyone else see the striking contrast between italy being known as being a very religious country and the foremost catholic country in the world (it's where the religion originated, isn't it?) and yet, they're very racist? i thought all religions preached peace and certainly not propagation of the "Us versus Them" mindset and dynamic and mistreatment of people who look different to you. and you said you got racism from kids in the Vatican of all places...

I was there working for six months relating to my job with the U.S. government during the late 1990's in Northern Italy (Friuli). I took public transportation everywhere and no one ever bothered me or gave me a hard time. Of course, I made every effort to learn to speak Italian months before I actually traveled there. In my experience there, I found that people were generally kind to me, so I reciprocated. You'll find racism everywhere you go in this world and sometimes it can be difficult to avoid. Based from my experience of staying in Nippon for 3 years, most of the Japanese people there are far more nicer and welcoming to tourists or foreigners if you follow their rules and manners. Racism exist everywhere in every country in the world, but those who are being racist are just some sad individuals, not the whole community/country.
For Japanese people, rather than race or skin color, they are far more troubled if a person is being a nuisance in public or being disrespectful to other people. You'll be just fine if you can follow their living etiquettes and proper manners like greet before/after eating, dressed well, be polite when talking to others (no shouting or pointing fingers), and just be respectful in general. I'll see you're going to have a happy and prosperous life living there just like I did, just don't forget to learn the language first as they really like a fluent and well-spoken person 🙏.
