I’m glad you put the 12HO on the Milwaukee. It’s not often you see any of their tools get beaten for sheer speed and power with that battery. It still came out on top of my brand so I’m not poking at Milwaukee, but the green machine is a absolute unit. Soon maybe people will start saying “ the big 4” when referring to tool brands..
The Hikoki really is a beast, just as I thought from using it. They really need to work on its durability though, I have two, just because I know I will break those gearboxes. They seem to last somewhere between 3-6months in heavy use. I've bought one from the states with Metabo HPT on it, and two Hikoki ones from a local store here in Finland. It seems like the main problem is with the upper half of the gearbox shell not being connected to the plastic frame in any way, just the lower part is. This makes the whole gearbox able to flex, and then pop goes the needle bearing that is transferring all the force while converting rotational motion from the motor to the linear motion of the blade.
Out of curiosity, why don’t you consider a different brand? I have a Metabo HPT drill and driver, so I am considering the recip… but these reports of terrible reliability are making me think twice.

Nice video, I personally own the single battery version of the Makita sawzall shown and i love it for my home remodel that i'm doing myself with some help from my dad.
This kind of hurts my dewalt feelings, but at least you could have tried the DCS389 with 9ah battery, which gives more power than 6ah. I have the flexvolt advantage myself and agree that Dewalt should improve their recip saws, as they have with their circular saws.
@@trentguckiean7039 the more amps does not give you more power. do you not understand simple electronics? think of the 18v as your fuel tank and the amperage as the amount of fuel you have in the tank. the motor still turns at exactly the same speed and creates the exact same torque just lasts longer the more amps you have.
@@seanmcgrath9167 nope he’s right, the 21700 cells have been proven to be better than 18650s across several brands. The first comment was the one I was looking for. Since the battery is a very important pice of the Milwaukee equation, THE 5 AMP BATTERY IS NOT THE BATTERY OF CHOUCE WITH ANY OF THE FUEL TOOLS!!!! The Torque Test Channel have proven that the Milwaukee 6 amp High Output battery is the most powerful. I tend to use the 3 amp HO battery on many of my smaller hand tools, e.g. Gen 3 and 4 Hammer Drill, Gen 3 and 4 Impact, 18 Gauge Nailer, mid torque nailer, depending on task, etc…
Once again buddy, learn what time is. If I had a time machine I could have travelled to the future and got the batteries that didn't exist in the time I was living in. Please engage your brain before you make a third pointless comment on this video.
After watching this video and awesome framers I decided to purchase this and the 36v rear handle saw yet I can’t seem to find batteries or chargers anywhere
the Hikoki is a beast but i would take blade change ease before power. Makita's system is well designed. Also I don't know why Hikoki insist on putting those useless battery gauges on their tools. 2 bars tells you nothing other than its either higher or lower than 50% charge. the battery will give you a better indication of it's charge level. anyway another informative vid cheers mate
The multivolt batteries have 4 bars on the batteries-I do wish the the 3.0 was a multivolt with 3 bars but I use the 2.5/5.0 battery on most of my tools anyway I always have enough batteries on a job site so I don't care too much about how many bars
Dewalt is very easy to understand, their top end is: Flexvolt with Flexvolt batteries 54v Or Flexvolt Advantage with Flexvolt batteries (Home Depot exclusive) 18v Or Power Detect with 8AH regular batteries (Lowes exclusive) 18v And they won’t really commit to which of them is the best. Clear as mud.
Uh, one more comment on this video: DeWalt's four position blade clamp (looks like it's not on this model) is amazing. I had a model with that feature and it came in super handy in more than one occasion. I'd like to see something like that on Makita's. It would take some engineering, but it could be done. It would make a huge difference, in my opinion.
Bang on mate, the 4 blade option is great. I've got it on my basic dewalt Sabre saw trying to find if it on some of the other ones but looks like not many have it. Makes sense to have it, especially on awkward shitty cuts. Saves you from flexing the shit out of the blade in the standard orientation.

Some closing thoughts of my own, the dewalt lever blade change system is great. However, it does wear out and you have to get the yellow part replaced. I own the hikoki and agree totally that the blade change is shit. Very harsh on your fingers with quite a bit of resistance to turn it and you still have barely any room to change when it's fully extended. Cool comparison all in all and I was very surprised to hear that you preferred the 36v mak over the 40v one. I've tried neither so will take your word for it!
I have the Dewalt got it second hand. Still have my old Makita electric as well. Used to have nearly all Hitachi then they lost the plot. Since changing names the Hikoki gear is coming good. I have recently started buying their gear again. That framer for a start. Not surprised the sabre saw is good apart from the crap blade change.

Also Metabo =Dewalt with many tools here in Europe. In USA seems different. here in EU HIKOKI is Hitachi's cheap brand
Where the 40volt sawzall mate?! This is blasphemy. Jk but I’ve had a ton of issues with xgt sawzall as well. Would be great to hear your take on Them to see if we’re experiencing the same problems
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL absolutely. I’ve experienced mechanical problems. I.e. battery connection issues. Along with not being able use the 2.5 battery. Just overheats too damn quickly. Not even worth it to put it on. Abunch of little things.
Pre-comment: before watching this video. I remember you prefer the 18x2 makita to the XGT, so that says something. Not sure what it says about this particular comparison to the other brands. But, I am cheering for the Makita. I will add to this comment after viewing video... First edit: My suspicion is, any of the ones with oscillation will do better. As Makita has no cordless sawzall with this feature, how could it compete? (And why DON'T they have that feature????) And, as far as I know, they all have the same SPM, 3000, I think. Anyway, on with the viewing... Welp, that's that. The kind of "pared down" categories you spoke about, comfort, speed of cut, what was the third? Anyway, those are what means the most. Blade change, ease of... That was it. This one boils down to what color you like, what platform you're on, and I guess price. I'm gonna rewatch your video comparing the makita 18x2 & the XGT. Will be upgrading sometime. I've been using the 18v subcompact for a number of years and love it! It constantly amazes me. It's just so small and comfy. Ok. Cheers for the video!
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL yea sure did, I enjoying your videos and appreciate them!. No, you just don't understand the passage of time... Or Milwaukee don't know which is their best tool. Since this was filmed all these brands have released new models and the gen 2 40v Makita is the new king.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL, good to hear from you. I figured I’d receive just exact the comment you made. I’m not up on the Sawzall type tool as much as the other various types. I do feel you were spot on with the multi-tool video. I do like my M12 Multi-Tool a lot!I also enjoy your tool test videos. You’ve got a great sense of humor…lol!
Great comparison. Despite the battery voltage and amperage being all over the place, that's not about you not doing like for like and really about technology diverging and marketing wank. I think a better way of rationalising this (which is what you did wither intentional or unintentional) should be ranked by weight rather than by battery voltage and amps. For this particular tool, the tolerance between biggest and smallest could be 0.7 kg to 1 kg. Who cares if the a recip saw is 3.5 or 3.8 kg if there is a huge disparity in terms of performance or ergonomics? Yes, more than 0.5 kg difference will start to cause fatigue.
Yo send me some blades, I do heaps of demo in my Commercial construction job down here in Christchurch! And I am also a Makita fanboy but very impressed by that Hikoki!
Hey bro would love the blades, I'm in wellington I've got the super sawzall and I was using it all day one day to cut nails under floorboards, and the fucker started smoking on me
I cut an entire tree up withe the dewalt 389. The tree at the base was nearly as big as a 5 gallon bucket. Only took a 9ah battery and a 6ah battery. It is a beast.
I'd love some fresh blades, sick of making do with shit old blades because I'm too cheap to buy new ones. They're so freaking expensive! I'm in Auckland, hit me up. 🤙🤙🤙
Could of tried to match watt hours 2 Makita 4 ah 1 Milwaukee 8 ah 1 hikoki 4ah but who knows with DeWalt cuz you don't know how many volts it's using but then people will complain because Milwaukee has 21700 cells and makita had 18650 so no real way to win
why would you remove the shoe, I mean I have an old school makita plug in and the shoe was adjustable in and out but why? I have the dewalt 60v volt which is more powerful than the flex volt advantage its a beast and I dont ever see the need to adjust the shoe.
Which one a contractor will use depends on the battery system they are invested in. BTW those 4 brands are all contractor grade, but Hilti is a contender, as is Festool, in the US, serious woodworkers tend to buy Festool, commercial contractors tend to buy Hilti.

Where the 40volt sawzall mate?! This is blasphemy. Jk but I’ve had a ton of issues with xgt sawzall as well. Would be great to hear your take on Them to see if we’re experiencing the same problems
Have you watched the review I did on it?
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL absolutely. I’ve experienced mechanical problems. I.e. battery connection issues. Along with not being able use the 2.5 battery. Just overheats too damn quickly. Not even worth it to put it on. Abunch of little things.
Actually ran through 2 4ah xgt batteries already. Makita told me that was the first xgt batteries they’ve seen die. Must be doing something right eh
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I’ve seen all the reviews mate!
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL a working xgt sawzall vs hikoki video would be killer!
Needing a Sawzall...always a Milwaukee!!!
That's what I used to think too
Now I just finish the job faster after going green!!
@@baseballdude8491 then your using the wrong model of Milwaukee.
I take it you didn't bother to watch the video?
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL yea sure did, I enjoying your videos and appreciate them!.
But been a carpenter for over 38 years (certainly doesn't mean I know everything by far) but have been through the gamut of sawzalls through the years and just sticking with the Milwaukee, been best by far for me over the years.

U must not have watched the video or been on a real jobsite

Blades please sir
Cool 👍
Flex volt means it takes advantage of the extra power from the battery
flexvolt enables battery to work on different volts tools.Hence word flex.
You definitely used an older Milwaukee Sawzall model, because it has the easy blade change lever.
Hey bro would love the blades, I'm in wellington
I've got the super sawzall and I was using it all day one day to cut nails under floorboards, and the fucker started smoking on me
Makita baby
Where is the HILTI SR6
Look I live in Australia but fuck me dead I want those blades haha
I cut an entire tree up withe the dewalt 389. The tree at the base was nearly as big as a 5 gallon bucket. Only took a 9ah battery and a 6ah battery. It is a beast.
Have you tried the Makita 40v one? Does it feel the same as the 36v one???
ruclips.net/video/tJ3ZiABgjN8/видео.html
I'd love some fresh blades, sick of making do with shit old blades because I'm too cheap to buy new ones. They're so freaking expensive! I'm in Auckland, hit me up. 🤙🤙🤙
Could of tried to match watt hours 2 Makita 4 ah 1 Milwaukee 8 ah 1 hikoki 4ah but who knows with DeWalt cuz you don't know how many volts it's using but then people will complain because Milwaukee has 21700 cells and makita had 18650 so no real way to win
I'm just trying to figure out why you would need a sawzall on a roof...r.i.p DeWalt.
That dewalt saw I believe sits third place in Dewalt's recipro heiarchy in terms of power. 1. dcs389 2. dcs388 3. dcs386
why would you remove the shoe, I mean I have an old school makita plug in and the shoe was adjustable in and out but why? I have the dewalt 60v volt which is more powerful than the flex volt advantage its a beast and I dont ever see the need to adjust the shoe.
Makita xgt recip is the best one i thought ..also like hikoki -hitachi tools beasts very powerfull quailty tools
Awww no Bosch?
Nope.
I live in south Auckland, please send me a blade so i can slit my writs.
Obviously its a joke, hope it was a laugh lol.
I have answers its flex
Which one a contractor will use depends on the battery system they are invested in.
BTW those 4 brands are all contractor grade, but Hilti is a contender, as is Festool, in the US, serious woodworkers tend to buy Festool, commercial contractors tend to buy Hilti.
Show me who is buying a Festool Reciprocating saw?
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL The same people buying Makita's cordless framing nailers.
Yep. Believe it or not, I've actually had people tell me they have a battery only makita framing nailer.
Hikoki fan boy. Bias
Shows how little you know. You clearly don't watch this channel. But judging by your bias and lack of recip knowledge, I'm guessing you like the red one.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Yes Red is my daily drivers , but after a few more research videos after watching yours 1st. I' just might buy the metabo sawzall.
You know Metabo and Hikoki are the same thing.
What are you talking about XGT by far the most powerful recip saw. You have excluded because you think. Feeling invalidating your test already.
The first XGT recip was shit. The new one is the best around. RUclips videos have dates. And I have reviewed bothe XGT Models.
Bosch
I've had the 60volt dewalt for 3 or 4 years now.. Its a beast and amazing! Can't believe you trashed yours, that's a sin lol
Acutally the best in this test is Milwaukee it has only 18Volatage battery! And Voltage give HUGE advance!
I get payed per hour I’d take makita , last forever
Do we need a vaccine pass to enter the competition? 🤔
Triple jabbed.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL ok im in and in nz
I'll have those blades mate, I have apprentices to punish 👍
Why you thrown and broken the dewalt sabre saw.My heart is so painful. These are also living man made organisms without blood.
Stupid but the yellow is gross and the Milwaukee looks cheap
