- Phrynosoma orbiculare and Kadenicarpus pseudomacrochele in Querétaro Mexico are the feature of this video. the elevation here is almost 7,000 ' but you wouldn't guess it since it's hot and dry.
Vazquez-Sanchez (2019). Polyphyly of the iconic cactus genus Turbinicarpus (Cactaceae) and its generic circumscription.
Your contributions support this content. It sounds cliché but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.

I saw the thumbnail and thought it was Clint's Reptiles. TOO COOL. I love lizards.
😂 me, too!
The channel collab I never knew I needed and now can't stop wanting. 😂
Yet again one of your videos makes me say "Holy fuck this planet got SUPER fuckin lucky..."
I appreciate that when you captioned Gabriel's name you also listed him as a friend before naturalist. ❤
I love the little spiky bois. Always used to catch them in the backyard, never managed to annoy them enough to make them do the eye thing, despite petting their heads and trying to hand-feed them ants.
The flower on that condalia reminded me strongly of the flowers on my jujube trees (they also have super tiny flowers!) so I looked it up and sure enough, both in the buckthorn family! I'm learning to make those connections!
You're on your way to becoming a plant systematist...
Tony and crew spits out another insane blockbuster presentation.........You wake us up out of our sofa induced coma man.
Yes, there's deep, old intelligence in reptiles.
That, sir, is a horny toad. Indeed the chillest of reptiles. Thank you for sharing 💙
Born in west Texas, my brothers and I caught hundreds of horny toads; the babes were darling.😮
I grew up with the horny roads in my backyard and surrounding area! Didn’t know what that word meant till I got older 😂 but then learned it is also the “great horned toad” 😝
ME TOO grew up in Tucson in late 50s and 60s
We photographed some nice rare orchids today, that we discovered last week. What a nice video to end this day with 💚
I live in Southern Arizona, Tucson, growing up in the late '50s and 60s we had Horned Toads that were at least 3 times bigger than the one you were holding , and very common to find, even in the city, but slowly they disappeared in town, We also had fairly large Desert Tortoise in town, and even the Gila Monsters,
Me and the neighborhood kids used to get tennis rackets and see how far it would go
Thanks for the selaginella Mr Santoro !
ALWAYS look forward to your posts! Your honesty is appreciated. Don't change for no one! Keep educating me!!
The horned toad is disappearing!!! I miss them every day!!!
Caught many horned lizards as a kid. Most are fairly tame. A few will use those horns and draw blood.
Never had one squirt the red dye. Only read that they can but we never hurt them so maybe that is why.
I learn something from every video. This time it was ephedra grass is also known as Mormon tea... And that explained alot before I looked up the history.
Yep,there used to be a huge growth of that ephedra grass along the Rio Grande at Langtry,Texas. The native elders used it for several ailments...asthma coughs staying awake, etc
It’s such a privilege to be able to see all these species thanks to your channel
What a beautiful video. Awsome Phrynosoma. Greetings
No “bye, gfy”? 😂
Didn't want His Holiness the lizard to overhear and think any less of him than he already does
right ? ffs we cant keep ourselves real without the sign off.
No wait, yes there is- he wrote it in the description 😂😂
I didn't know how much I needed to hear a guy with this accent getting this engrossed about what is essentially just shit coming out of the ground.10/10
The National Library of Medicine has a very technical paper called "A Review of the Ephedra genus" from July,2020. Quite
the banger of a read if I do say so myself. Don't drink the tea! Your liver will thank you.
I recently planted some prickly pear in my garden in Ottawa. They're already flowering, and I've seen some elsewhere that take the winter and revive in the spring. I was quite shocked. I look forward to some fruit in August. I have an ewe (sp) tree as well.
We remember seeing such cacti growing by the highway in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. They were small and unobtrusive, so most folks missed them. The winters there could get really savage. But they seem to be thriving.
"Yew" is the spelling 😊 Super cool that prickly pear cacti survive your Ottowa winter! I was under the mistaken impression they are much less tolerant of cold than that, plants are amazing!
@Heterogeneity thanks for the correction. I've seen a bunch of them together year after year in the same spot in the same garden. I think they go red, shrivel up and go dormant, but don't know for sure yet. I'm not even sure I need to cover them.
as we get more baked, by the sun not the dope hah, the plants are moving north. I'm growing Acacia trees from seed . If this heat keeps moving north maybe I can plant them outside. we used to have snow stay on the ground from November to april and alot of it; this winter we had four times where the snow stayed a few days ..
@@peterbathum2775I've been suspecting plant zones were slowly migrating for a few years.
I grew up with these guys in Oklahoma City. Theyre so good
u need to check out dry stone walls in Yorkshire =)
"God's true form is a horned lizard"
I would love to go on a hike with this guy. I can't imagine we would cover a lot of ground quickly, but it would be fascinating to hear him talk about what's growing in the mid Atlantic states, and also yell at my presence of the lawn I hate
I've been across a Horny Lizard before(not a euthemism). They're so chill like you say. I love them and always wanted people to know more about them, including the bleeding eyes. I didn't know much about them until I came across one in the house some years ago... Love Buckthorns but never seen one quite like that... I love the research you guys do and how freely you can talk about it... I have few braincells so it's hard to obtain so much knowledge without actually being physically there to witness and see the biodiversity.. everything has beauty even the microflora... I've noticed this around me over the past decade. Thank you for helping to protect these ecosystems.
I love seeing natural native companion plants, something to learn from with our own food production. That Jatropha looks interesting awooga. Fucking love you guys (:
Getting almost Bob Ross vibes from Tony lately lol
That ephedra was lit
Happy little ephedra 😂
Really, REALLY love your content! I’ve noticed your video has massively improved, especially the close up. Is that the environment cooperating or have you upgraded your equipment? I’d be interested to know what you use daily. Are the dogs ok?
oh the horny toad was one of my closest friends as a kid. I love those critters! They're so cool
Seeing those turbinicarpus/kadenicarpus was very interesting. I'm still wrapping my head around the names.
Can I get a "God is a horned lizard" in a black shirt, plox?
Thanks Joey! again...
I live two hours away from Querétaro and just yesterday I found a Horny Lizard too, they are majestic!
What a gift to hang out with that lil cutie!
Amount the many things I learned from this show is the pronunciation of plant and animal species. Now o don't feel silly for saying them wrong
Rest in peace puff the bearded dragon
I love horned toads…or horny toads as we called them when I was a child in Texas. A big one once tried to eat my big toe…I was sitting on a wood fence, he/she climbed up and thought my big toe was a nice fat bug and grabbed it. I was only 3 or 4 and screamed bloody murder. My father charged out thinking I was under attack. He was laughing but after gently removing my disappointed attacker, explained what the lizard thought and that it couldn’t possibly hurt me. After that I was in love! There were so many 70 years ago.
Used to catch those as a kid
I love selaginella! I just don't have a rock outcrop to grow it on...
When you look up Henry Lizardlover you can see Iguanas lounging on little sofas
I played with the toads as a 6 year old child. They do not struggle at all when you hold them. The horns are very rubbery. Good memories.
humans always so sloppily devolved
Have you any videos in western MS (MS delta region?) and or East Kentucky ( Central Appalachia Region?) Thanks, love your content.
We used to find those all the time when we were kids. Somebody said a blight hit them and just about wiped them out.
Yaaaaassssss: MORE PHYRNOSOMA!!!
Pink extrusive -- rhyolite?
will the platonic lizard massage be on Patreon
The rains are coming! Hang in there, plants!
Horned toad is a favorite dinosaur of mine. Has the face of a dragon.
You should develop a cartoon around what you do.. I'd watch it.
Love it

Joey! Do you have stickers left? How do I get some from ya? Got a new car and need to deface it lol
Most people are too distracted by my flora plena to notice my succulent trunk.
That Horned Lizard (Toad)? I moved to Texas, Corpus and Austin, in '86 and have never seen one in the wild. How do we bring them back?
How do you handle the high altitudes? Less oxygen... dehydration?
Pseudomacrochele!
Does "Hummers" mean Humming Birds?
Yes. He also uses the term buzzers and lepodoptra (sp) (moths)
@@mikeoxsbigg1 *Lepidoptera ( = moths and butterflies)

I think lizards are cute
I Dub thy lizard Smarty!
That is the lord our god! Yes🤘🫶🤘
What's the difference between a bull frog and a horny toad? A bull frog says, "Ribbit, ribbit" and a horny toad says, "Rub it, rub it"
I have been waiting for a video in Queretaro. My wife had a job at Arkansas State in Queretaro. We lived there for almost seven months. The pink volcanic rock was everywhere on the campus of the university. Here is a video of a Crotalus aquilus Queretaran dusky rattlesnake that I encountered one night in the dormitory where we were staying on the campus there. ruclips.net/user/shortsuX1hMYdB9EM?si=DP_NB-DHJv8GfqHP
