I just got one of these 901s to replace my cheap piece of junk crosman legecy 1000 and I love it! This gun feels more robust then The 880 and is shooting a little stronger also. I crono-ed it right out of the box and using the same pellets that I have crono-ed in my 880 many times at 681fps The 901 shot them at 713fps and 719fps at ten pumps. These are 8.2 gr pellets also, a little heavier then your average Crosman and Daisy pellets you find a Walmart. Needless to say I can't wait to get this thing out for a day of plinking.
Update, this gun started shooting those pellets at only 635 fps for no reason. It's brand new and has maybe 20 rounds through it. I'm very disappointed in this gun now. I'm going to order some new seals for it and replace them to see if that fixes the problem.
@@Alex-oy6wb I've never gotten around to ordering the seals yet. I'm actually thinking about taking one of my Winchester 1977XS-es and puting it's internal parts inside the 901. The 1977s shoot consistently above 800fps. Even though I'm pissed at the 901 I still love the shape and feel of it's body and I would really really like to have one that shoots as hard as a 1977!

I purchased a 901 some 6 months ago and use it for rat control at a distance of approximately 10m. I don't shoot steel BB's as I am lead to understand that this may damage the rifling. However, I found out to my surprise recently that the 901 can successfully and accurately shoot H&N Rabbit Magnum slugs! These slugs are surprising accurate over 10 to 15m and completely flatten out after impact. This naturally means the slugs dump all their energy into the target and don't easily go astray or ricochet like the steel BB'S. Generally my 901 likes a heavier grain slug or pellet around 15 grains. I am assuming that the slugs work on the 901 because logic and deduction tell me that air rifles made for BB's are not choked. Slugs are usually only recommended for PCP rifles for this reason. It pays off to try different ammo until you find some that work well with your scope, rifle and distance.
Purchased an 880 at WMart before doing research on any other models. It just looked like an older, vintage style. It fills the bill for keeping forest critters away from outdoor cat’s food dish - can pump for just the right power to tap as a reminder, or even regrettably removing them when necessary. Purchased the Ruger Air Hawk Elite at the same time. It’s a monster!!! For practical use, my 880 is the go-to. It appears the 901 is Daisy’s next step up from the 880. Another helpful review - thanks!
I like my 880 at two pumps to suggest coyotes vacate. I don't want to hurt them. Just persuade them to stay out of our yard and pets. I feed raccoons, though. They're no trouble and super cute.
Crosman claims 1000 fps on the box but in reality don't expect more then 720fps with lead 7.5 gr pellets which are commonly found at Walmart in Crosman and Daisy brands. My brand new 901 shot a lead 8.2 gr pellet over my crono 713 fps and 719 fps right out of the box! When considering the difference in built quality compared to the 1000 there is no reason to even consider the 1000 over the 901. You'll be sorry if you do. 😉
I think at your age you would quickly get bored with the Daisy Red Ryder. The Daisy Powerline 901 is recommended for ages 16 or older. I think, with adult supervision, the Powerline 901 might be a good air rifle for someone your age.
At least Daisy gives you a choice of two styles of the same gun. Even though I own a Legacy it's such a piece of junk that it no longer shoots harder then my 880 after only 3 outings with it. Even when it was working it shot only about 35 fps faster then The 880. The 1000 never came close to The Winchester 1977xs that shoots consistently over 800 fps! And that's with 7.5 gr pellets. The 880 is about 690 fps. I'm thinking about replacing my 1000 with is 901.
Pellets are always a PITA to load singly. Some Crosman Pumpmasters come with a five shot pellet clip that slides left to right to load the next pellet.
@@rustbeltairgun8718 Thanks for your answer. Bought it in the meantime. At home shooting at a distance of 9 metres. Every shot is a very good shot. Correct as it is
This gun is not good for small game, the sights get beat up easily, the bolts on the back of the stock rust quickly and it's a pain to pump it a dozen times while hunting.
In my opinion, the Poweline 901 is underpowered for hunting small game, you need an air rifle that can propel pellets at velocities of at least 1000fps.

I recommend at least two long pumps when firing indoors using pellets. It's a real pain to remove a jammed pellet from the barrel. Two long pumps should provide enough velocity.
The question is, how many BBs shot through the barrel does it take to destroy the rifling? The manufacturers may factor this in and figure that the rifling would only be ruined after the normal lifetime of the air rifle.
Within about 200 bb shots through the barrell of a my crosman 2100 , I discovered subsequently to my dismay that this adversely affected the accuracy of pellets through the same barrel

This happened after only three outings with the gun! My other problem with this gun is it's over all build quality. After having it apart and seeing how it's built does one realize the poor design on top of the cheap plastic! The original design of this gun used metal and for them to replace those parts with plastic is rediculous! There is no way the plastic parts are going to hold this gun's poor design together. the factorydiscription says 16 Joule but i heard its only 8 Joule, like a crosman pumpaster classic, is that true?
Based on my calculations, using a standard 4.5mm steel BB, is 8.58 Joules.
thats a good one but inside it's just a 880 with a little easyer pump
Makes sense, a lot of air guns share the same power plant.

As I can see, the rail is not metal, am I right?
The receiver, where you would mount the scope, is plastic.
Is this the best 50 rd pump air rifle?
I'll say it is good for its price point. I personally like the 880 due with is retro simulated wood grain.
not sure if I should get the 880, crossman legacy 1000, or the 901.
The Daisy 880, Crosman Legacy 1000 and Daisy 901 are of similar build quality. I personally like the looks of the Daisy 880.
I have the 880 and I love it. I think it's a great pellet rifle. I have not had any problems with mine
The 880 is good, but the 901 is a bit sturdier. The Legacy 1000 is OK, but harder to load pellets.
Why would anyone want to shoot bbs with this rifle? They're not only inaccurate but will destroy the rifled barrel in short order
