  • We camped at Rock Point Provincial Park over the Canada Day long weekend from June 29th to July 3rd, 2023. The was our first time visiting Rock Point. We have now camped at all the provincial parks along Lake Erie. It's a very nice park, however while we were there it seemed to be plagued with some maintenance and cleanliness issues. Jax had a ball playing in Lake Erie at the dog beach. We visited the town of Dunnville and saw Muddy the Mudcat then checked out the Dunnville Farmers Market. We then went to the amazing Commisso Estate Winery for some great wine and charcuterie. Our friends Kelly & Jamie and Sue & John joined us for this trip.

    Cell Phone Service: Bell, Telus, Koodo & Virgin Mobile - cell service was non-existent. There was no connection in the campground. Could barely get a signal at the beach to send a text. If you've been to this park please let us know your experience with cell service, especially if your with a service provider different from the ones mentioned.

      The first one was at the end of our Lake St. Peter Provincial Park review. She surreptitiously recorded Camping Entertaining with Kelly on my camera when I mistakenly left my camera at their site for 10 minutes. I found the footage a couple of months later when I was putting the video together. She's hilarious!

    It looks like a lovely park, so sorry to hear about the maintenance issues. Very thankful you weren’t injured by the tree. I am wondering why some Ontario parks are so thoughtfully maintained some not so much. For example, we have been to Ferris Park many times this year and though the facilities are worn, they are always clean, and cared for.

    We came here in 2019 for day use and just walked around for some reason I didn't like the park that much but we had to camp here to add it to the list so we came back in June 2022 for the weekend. All day both days the park workers kept driving back and fourth with the tractors they were doing something but our experiences was the bathrooms were clean, the park overall was clean too but coming back for a 2nd experiences here this time camping was much better and this park actual grew on me. My overall opinion is it's a good park. It sucks you had a tree fall down on your trailer and I'm glad u guys were safe!!

      Unfortunately we only visited this park once so the review you get is from that one time. Some other parks we have a long history with and we know if something like the filthy comfort stations are a one off. We still enjoyed the park. Heck, we pretty much enjoy every park we go to.

    Just for fun I did some rudimentary math to see how much a completely full park could potentially take in for a single day. I am sure there are expenses that I am unaware of when it comes to running a park like this, but at approximately 8000$ per day income for the park, you would think they could afford to clean and empty the loo and trim a few bushes to enhance the views in some spots. Rockpoint is our closest park…so we have been often….drainage is a huge issue….but if you go often enough you get to know the better sites….there is sand in spots 2-3 feet in…but that too can change yearly, never had the same cleanliness issues…that is unfortunate…staffing issue or funding issue and truthfully sometimes it’s only as clean as the last person left it….we like the closeness to the beach of the sites, biking out of the park at dusk…many deer to be seen….Lake Erie has a wicked undertow….so be aware…thanx for all your reviews…really enjoy….and as a camper that has had a trailer written off due to trees….you were very lucky!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  Год назад

      Good to hear that the cleanliness issue isn't normal for the park. Drainage is an issue for many of the Lake Erie Parks. It was bad for us at Selkirk and Port Burwell. At Rock Point when we left at 2:30 am the water on the site was up to 6 inches deep in some parts. I had to carry Jax to the truck or he'd be soaked and muddy. We know we were lucky with the tree. How it missed the awning, trailer and truck was a miracle. It only hit the trailer on the original bounce when it came down but then it wasn't resting on the trailer.

    It is a beautiful park with some great trails, and stuff to do.....but as soon as it rains.....it's a flood plain. Our site 139 in Kinsey and were ankle deep in water....most of the Kinsey section was under water....the rest of the park amenities are great but they need to address the drainage issues....the comfort stations at that point are not functional. Sad for such a beautiful park! We had questionable trees as well....I am glad you didn't sustain any trailer damage!! Love watching your reviews and adventures.....always a treat! Adventure on!!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  Год назад

      We've been finding that the parks on the Lake Erie shore are all bad for drainage. When we were at Port Burwell it was an absolute mud pit. At Selkirk we had less rain but the ground was mostly clay so lots of flooding. We're told it gets better later in the season.

  • @shannonr2394

    We’ve been going to Rock Point every year for the past several years… we also enjoy the private sites. The comfort stations are usually very clean and odor free, but the vault toilets my kids call “the scary toilets,” are always, well, scary. We went last weekend and even the comfort station (in the Kinsey area) smelled like the septic bed was full, and the showers were not for the squeamish. I thought to myself I bet Cheryl would give this a Skunk, lol!

    Hi guys good morning, I amgoing camping on the Sep long weekend and saw the sign for ticks in the washrooms and got freaked out been to multiple ontario parks and never seen such a sign. Specially since I have little one. Just wanted to know if you have experience a tick problem in the campsite. Or is it just on the trails? Thank you

      The Lake Erie parks are popular for ticks. You need to be cautious to try to stay out of long grass and plants if possible. Check your little one and yourself each night before bed. They have to be latched on for at least 36 hours to transmit Lyme disease if they are deer ticks. Have a good time but just be aware.

    Hi Guys. We were there for a day use not too long ago and found the dog beach area was overgrown. Lots of ant hills and very hard to pull a wagon on the ground. This was the area between the day use and dog beach. Did you happen to notice if that had been cleaned up. Debris from broken trees removed?

      That area was cleaned up. A guy was cutting the grass our first day there. The day use area was really the only area they seemed to be taking care of.

      I have had similar experience with the washrooms when my kids were young. There also used to be a lot of litter.

    Great vid. Question where did you get your truck's side mirrir extensions? I tow with a 2011 ford expedition .

      Those are CIPA mirrors. They make them for most makes and models of tow vehicles. They're much nicer than those one-size-fits-all mirrors. Go to cipausa.com and put in your year, make and model and they'll tell you the model number for your vehicle. Best to go to Amazon then and search for that model number.

    Why does the campground seem so empty even on Canada Day

      We did most of our filming of the campsites on the Thursday before all the people arrived for the long weekend. It got very busy Friday night and Saturday.
