You know how hard its to make a song out of "Sylvia", and yet, Elvis made it sound beautiful.
The song Sylvia here in Brazil was so successful that when the album was released in Brazil, this song was changed to its position on the album, coming first on side A. I really like this song, it's wonderful.

I love this song. I'm no singer, but I'm going to bet that this is very difficult to sing with all the sharp or flat notes (don't know much about music jargon). Elvis is showcasing his vocal prowess here. No, no, no low D. This belongs in high C at least.

It is not very in- depth & too a fact about Elvis & His Grammy Awards: Elvis won 3 Grammy's, all for Gospel.
His 3rd & final Grammy was for his live in Memphis in 1974 performance for "How Great Thou Art"- Best Inspirational Performance.
His 2nd Grammy for his 1972 "He Touched Me"- Best Inspirational Performance.
Elvis's 1st Grammy was for his 1967 "How Great Thou Art" album.

That 1970 visit to Studio B was one of many Elvis made over the years, including in 1958, the year after the studio opened.
Just a few months after the marathon sessions, Elvis returned to Nashville. A March 16, 1971, story in The Tennessean with the headline "Elvis slips in unnoticed, almost," describes "35 or 40 women" waiting in the parking lot behind RCA's studio when a blue deluxe Mercedes arrived.
After Elvis went inside, a bank special investigator, a Metro homicide lieutenant and a Metro patrolman moonlighting as security guards stood outside - along with one determined Elvis super fan, a cocktail waitress named Shirley Hardison.
"I met him once. That man in there," she said. "He could burp on a record and it would be music to me."
During this same trip to Nashville, Elvis was admitted to Baptist Hospital for an inflamed right eye. He spent a few days there - during which the hospital was overwhelmed with phone calls and flowers and he had to be moved to another area of the building - before returning to Memphis.
The King ultimately recorded more than 200 songs at Studio B, including "Are You Lonesome Tonight," "It's Now or Never" and the gospel standard "How Great Thou Art," which required only four takes, according to the Studio B website. The album "How Great Thou Art" was released in February 1967 and won a Grammy for Best Sacred Performance.
After two decades, RCA Studio B closed its doors on Aug. 17, 1977, the day after Elvis died. The studio was donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 1992.

I like this song. The first time I heard it I was like, "ehh, no," but after listening to it a few times, his vocals got me. He builds up the tension, then explodes with desperation in the chorus - the man just wants to hear from Sylvia. It's on my playlist. 🤷

The closest was Janey, but she was down in the alley...the second closest was Little Sister (I have 2 older sisters). Who am I missing? I'm reacting to these songs in order BY YEAR. It's no longer chronological. It's also given to me randomly by my friend who sorts the list out for me. This is to keep it fresh for you guys and to not be predictable. So basically i'll listen to every song he recorded in that year then once that's done i'll move on to the next year.
Next BIG thing is that i will NOT be reacting/listening to repeats of songs i have already listened to. My main goal now is to listen to every *New* song from 1969 to 1977 the first time he sung them. Some times this will mean that i will watch a song from a live performance but that doesnt mean i will be watching that whole live show or parts inbetween "All the talking he does or funny moments".
So the next question i can hear you asking is "But Seph the live shows are AMAZING and you need to see them in their entirety!"
Yes i know! And i promise you i WILL. But NOT until i have listened to the very last song re recorded in 1977.
Once i have heard them all i will be going back to the beginning and i'll start to watch the interviews and live performances "In FULL"
The reason i have made this HARD decision to not listen to repeats of songs "such as hounddog for example" is because if i done this it would take me about 10 years to get to 1977. It would be a lushhhh 10 years i have to admit! But please understand that i just want to listen to all his songs FIRST.
Now this is probably going to put a few people off the channel as they will be expecting me to watch all the live shows as they come up "In full" and there will also be people who don't read this Post and also wont understand.

@@SephPlays Ah. I did read that but misunderstood. I think I know where the confusion lies as well. When you say YEAR, the assumption is that you will be listening to what was newly released that year (69). It isn't exactly new to you but that's because you had a preview of the home recording album (99) which, as far as release date, puts you thirty years ahead of where the rest of us are expecting you to be and leaves us all in a tangle of time travel. I think it would be better to say that once you've heard it you won't be listening to it again until the last song of 1977. It's perfectly understandable not to want to listen to 17 different versions or takes that have only slight differences here and there until you've heard everything else first, but I didn't know you were counting official releases with that.
I wouldn't count an official track from an album the same as a random version of hound dog from spring of 74, but it is your channel and you make the rules.
If I now understand correctly, I'll be eagerly waiting for Love Letters, and Oh Danny Boy (as you already reacted to the home recording) at the end of 77 instead of in their respective release years.
I'm interested in seeing your friend's video choices in the next few years to come as it was give and take with Elvis. A live performance gave you his personality and passion but often sped up tempos and omitted many verses which took away the impact of some songs lyrically. At least in my opinion. But that's okay. If it isn't my favorite the first time around, I'll just have to be patient because as you've said, you'll eventually get to them all.
No hard feelings from me, I love your videos, and often turn on the playlist when I'm driving or as background noise around the house because "Why not, Seph can use the views" and there's no chance of getting me off the Elvis train. Not when I just snagged a booth in the dining car.
Love this and LOVE Elvis' vocals, but I think theres an error lyrically! In the first verse elvis sings that hes on the phone, wondering when Sylvia will call. If he's on the phone, how will he hear her calling him!? I love it anyway, apparently this was a number 1 single in Brazil!
Okay full honesty: There is Elvis 1970 film footage with "Sylvia" (Alternate Take 3) & "Sound Of Your Cry" edited in over the aforementioned footage that I VERY DEARLY love & have watched over & over again.
So in that sense I have listened to this song many, many times and I think that the Alt Take 3 is superior.
This one seems more "tame" vocally speaking but that could just be me.
In any case it took Elvis 8 Takes during the recording of this one until he was satisfied that he did a good job on it.

"Sylvia" is a song by Elvis Presley from his 1972 album Elvis Now, being the penultimate song recorded on the last day of the prolific Nashville recording sessions in June 1970 (which yielded a total of more than 30 songs, spread over several albums).
For some reason RCA Victor (possibly considering it as a single candidate) did not include the song either on That’s The Way It Is album in 1970 or on Love Letters from Elvis album in 1971, though it was recorded during the same sessions and was thematically appropriate for both these albums. It eventually appeared on Elvis Now in 1972.
Another version of the song, recorded on July 15, 1970, at MGM Studios during the rehearsals for the MGM documentary That's the Way It Is, and available on several bootlegs, suggests Presley's willingness to revive the song for the upcoming Las Vegas concerts. He can be heard vocalizing to the TCB Band, expecting it to accompany his vocals. However, the lackluster response from the musicians (or their unfamiliarity with the material) caused him to abandon the idea.
In 1972, the song reached the top of the charts in Brazil.
It was written by Geoff Stephens and Les Reed. Presley recorded it on June 8, 1970, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee.
