- Our New Year begins when the grain is golden.I'm eager to wait until harvest time.I waited impatiently until March, but my hand burned a few days before the harvest, so this time I was standing by the window of the room listening to my father's poems.
Usually the paddy is dried for a few days in the hot sun and then the first batch of rice is separated for the sake of the Lord Buddha. That is the sri lankan conventional.
Rice is the staple food of the country.This new rice festival is also a sri lankan traditional festival that has been held since the time of the Supreme Buddha.next all four gens are about to hold the SOORYA MANGALLAYA.
The earth remains alive because of the SUN.it gives the energy and lives for all trees,animals as well as humans.with out sun nothing will be alive.hence we show our graduate to the god sun by celebrating thr soorya mangallaya(new year festival).
So now is the time for everyone to start cleaning the house for the new year. The trees are full of 'Erabadu' flowers.It is very beautiful and a sign of nature tell peoples to that the new year season is soon.We are all indebted to the stove that has been cooked for a long time.
It's three or four days before the New Year that we start making flour from fresh rice. April is the time when Kawum Kokis Mung Athiraha is in full swing in every home.
This time,I made some 'thala karali'(sesame sweet)and made a favorite coconut cake for my family. I took a piece of chopped spicy to make Kokis, because my brother's favorite rice flour and mixed it with spicy raisins.
When making kavum, put the spoon and fork across the oil to be symbolic in all four directions.The first kavum is hung on the side with leprosy.
The next day I tied the red lamision's hair beautifully (its treditional way to explained konda kawum) with the flour that my mother had made the day before. It was my mother learned to me how to make such a nice kawum.Then I quickly went and sewed the rest of my mother's New Year's dress.My brother brought it from Colombo, I asked to buy for mum.Because he an expert to chooses beautiful clothes.Sakiya was playing nearby and looked me like saying "Please, sister, please give me a nice pair of trousers too" ..
While we were making confectionery here, it was Dad and Uncle Sumith who prepared the royal food..mmm yummy... Dodol ..
When I take the tea to them, the Dodol bubbling up. Somehow I collected one and a half bottles of coconut oil when finished make Dodol.
I woke up the next morning and lit the stove with my mother for the auspicious time and made "*lunumiris*" with milk rice and then made the table beautiful. The well that gave us clean water to drink for a year is created with the feeling that we will not forget in this new year as well. In fact, nature and human are together .💛
After the meal, I gave some betel leaves to my parents and adore them.Then i took some per-prepared sweets and some clothes and left the house with Sakiya.To share happiness to someone lived with loneliness.

සාමාන්‍යයෙන් තද අවුවේ දවස් කීපයක් වේලලා තමයි වී ටික අටුවට දාන්නේ.ඊට පස්සෙ අපි කොටාගන්න හාල් වලින් මුල්ම කොටහ අයින් කරන්නේ බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ වෙනුවෙන්.ඒක ඉතිං අපේ හෙල සිරිත.ඊට පස්සේ තමයි අලුත් සහල් මංගල්‍යය පවත්වන්නේ.ඇත්තටම අපේ අතීතය ගත්තොත් අපේ රටේ තිබුනෙ පිරිසිදු කෘෂිකාර්මික ආර්ථිකයක්.රටේ ප්‍රධාන ආහාරය සහල් සහ ධාන්‍යය වර්ග තමයි.මේ අලුත් සහල් මංගල්‍යයත් බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගෙ කාලේ ඉදලම පැවැත්වෙන හෙලයන්ගේ උත්සවයක්.
ඊලගට ලග ලග එන්නේ අපේ සිවුහෙලයම එකතුවෙලා සූර්ය දෙවියන් වෙනුවෙන් පවත්වන සූර්ය මංගල්‍යය..🌞🌻 ඇත්තටම මේ ලෝකෙ ජීවය රැදිලා තියෙන්නේ කව්රු නිසාද කියලා හිතලා බැලුවොත් මේ හැමදේම අපිට ලැබිලා තියෙන්නේ සූර්‍යා නිසා.ගස් වැල් ඇල දොල සතා සීපාවෝ මිනිස්සු මේ හැමදේටම ශක්තිය දෙන්නෙ සූර්ය දෙවියන්..🙏🏼 ඉතිං ඒකට කෘතගුණ දැක්වීමේ උත්සවය තමයි හෙලයන් මේ සූර්ය මංගල්‍යය ලෙස පවත්වන්නේ.♥️
මේ කාලෙට එරබදු ගස් වලත් රතු පාටට එරබදු මල් පොට්ටු පිරිලා.හීන් සීතල හුලගත් එක්ක ටික ටික කොහාගෙ හඩත් ඇහෙද්දි අවුරුද්ද ලගයි කියන්න කැලන්ඩර් බලන්න ඕනෙ නෑ..කුස පුරවන බත් පතට වගේම අවුරුද්දක් තිස්සේම උයපු ලිපට අපි ණයගැති නිසාම ගොම මැටි ගාලා අම්මලා ලිපත් අලුත් කරනවා.
අලුත් අවුරුද්දට දින තුන හතරකට කලින් තමයි අලුත් හාල් වලින් අපි කැවිලි හදන්න පිටි කොටන්න පටන් ගන්නේ.
තෙල් පැණි ඇත්නම් කැවුම්ද පඤ්ඤං කිව්වලු..
මේ පාර අවුරුද්දට මම මුලින්ම තල කැරලි ටිකක් හදලා තියලා,අපේ ගෙදර අය ආසම පොල් කේක් එකකුත් හැදුවා.අම්ම කොටපු හාල් පිටි වලින් කොටහක් අරගන සැර ජාතිත් දාලා කොකිස් මිශ්‍රණය ඒදුවෙ අවුරුදු කෑම මේසෙ මොනවා තිබ්බත් සැර කොකිස් නැත්තන් මල්ලිට අවුරුදු නැති නිසා..😁
කැවුම් හදනකොට හැන්දයි කූරයි හරහට තියලා තෙල් දාන්නේ දිශා හතර සංකේතවත් වෙන්නලු.මුල්ම කැවුම පැත්තකින් එල්ලලා තියන්නෙ කෝදුරුවන්ටලු.ඒකෙන් වෙන්නෙ අවුරුදු කාලෙට බෝ වෙන ලෙඩ රෝග අවම වෙන එකලු.
කලින් දවසෙ අම්මා ඒදපු පිටි වලින් පහුවදා රතු ලමිස්සියොන්ගෙ කොණ්ඩ ගෙඩි ටික නම් මං ලස්සනට බැන්දා.මට එහෙම කොණ්ඩ බදින්න කියලා දුන්නේ මගෙ අම්මා තමයි😍 කලින් හදලා තියපු කටු ආස්මී ටිකත් බැදලා පැණි දාලා අරන් තියලා තමයි මම ගිහින් ඉක්මනින් අම්මගෙ අවුරුදු ඇදුමෙ ඉතුරු ටික මැහුවෙ.
තාත්තයි සුමිත් මාමයිත් කයියක් දාගන මොකක් හරි ලොකු වැඩක්.ඇග පත හෝදගන මං එයාලට තේ අරන් යද්දි මෙන්න බොලේ දොදොල් හදනවා.හොද පදමට පැහි පැහි බුබුලු දානවා.කොහොමහරි දොදොල් කිලෝ දා හතරෙන් පොල් තෙල් බෝතල් එකහමාරකුත් හම්බුනා..
කැවිලි පෙවිලි ටිකත් හදාගන ගෙවල් දොරවල් අස්පස් කරගන නොනගත කාලේට වැඩ සේරම අතරින්නේ හිත ටිකක් නිවාගන්න වගේ කියලයි මටනම් හිතෙන්නෙ.පන්සල් ගිහින් ඇවිත් ඇදට වැටුන ගමන්ම මට හොදටම නින්ද ගියා.බඩගිනියි කිය කිය මල්ලි අම්මට මුණු මුණු ගානවා අඩ නින්දෙ වගෙ මට ඇහුනා මතකයි.මේකා රෑ දෙගොඩ හරියෙ නැගිටලා හොරෙන් කෑවදෝ කියලත් මටනම් සැකයි..😂
පහුවදා උදේම ඇහැරිලා අම්මත් එක්ක නැකතට ලිප ගිනි මොලවලා කිරිබත් එක්ක ලුණු මිරිස් හදලා කෑම මේසෙ ලස්සන හැදුවා.ඊට පස්සෙ තාත්තා නැකතට වැඩ අල්ලද්දි,අම්මා ලිදත් එක්ක ගණුදෙනු කරා.සූර්‍යාගෙන් ශක්තිය අරගන අවුරුද්දක් තිස්සේ බොන්න පිරිසිදු වතුර දීපු ලිද මේ අලුත් අවුරුද්දේදි අපි අමතක කරන්නෙ නෑ කියන හැගිමෙන් තමයි මේ ගණුදෙනු කිරීම නිර්මාණය වෙලා තියෙන්නේ.ඇත්තටම සොබාදහමයි මිනිස්සුයි කියන්නෙ දෙකක් නෙවෙයි එකක්.💛

I love the small touches of warmth I observed , as when your father offers the first bite of a rice cake to your mother first, and then to you and your brother.
Such gestures are the most beautiful. The deep respect and affectionate regard you have for each other is so heart warming.
