  • In commercial buildings the outside columns are usually placed hard against the site boundaries to maximize use of land, because commercial land is very expensive.
    The column sits right on the edge of the footing causing eccentric loading and extremely high soil bearing pressure.
    Depending on the loading and soil bearing capacity, this condition will result in excessively large pad footings.
    In todays video, we’re going to see how we can tackle this problem and drastically reduce the volume of concrete in the footings.

    Why the pillar in one of the footing is at the middle while the footing in the opposite pillar is at the corner

    I have to design a structure where plot size is 20' wide only and all the column are at the property line so I am going for strap footing, but to analyse and design the strap footing where both the column is eccentric I tried to search any design example but couldn't find one. So if you suggest me any book or example that would be great. Thanks in advance 🙌🙌

    Question...if a building is sandwiched between two buildings and both column A and B bump up against property lines and hence both are eccentric footings. We still need a strap footing, but how does the cals change?

      Calcs are the same. Just draw the free body diagram with cantilever on both sides. Make sure there's no uplift

    Can we prevent the rotation of the pad footing if the we were to place these ground beams at the top surface of the pad? Not from the base

    • @bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
      @bengthebrazilianengineerinAus  Год назад

      you mean like a stepping the beam into the pad?

    • @Zorot99
      @Zorot99 Год назад

      @@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus not into the pad, into the column right above the pad.

    • @bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
      @bengthebrazilianengineerinAus  Год назад

      @@Zorot99 if the loads are still going to the pad and there's nothing preventing it from rotating it won't work. You better off landing the column on the beam, shifting the pad from the boundary and making it a concentric pad footing without bending moment.

    How do design of beam ?

  • @andrewk8966
    @andrewk8966 Год назад

    It wouldn't work like you described (for footings example) - like beam with two fixed basis...idea is good, but it's wrong. Cantilever is more closely. But the most closely will be "beam on ground".
