Memories are stored in a part of the your brain. The nervous system is just a series of wires that carry signals from the brain to different body parts telling them what to do. They also send signals back to the brain so you know you're touching something. That's why if your nerve endings die in a body part that body part goes numb.

Markich C I saw something similar in the old Spider Man 2 film with Doctor Octopus. The arms robot tentacles rigged to him were interacting with his mind. I never thought the idea for the character was based off of fact.
