well in SEA now the northen BTS cost about 1000$, almost 4 times the indonesian one :( So we asian don't really have much choice about that. Unless someone found a better way import those northen from UK, US :(
Merauke is my hometown. Back home we called them 4-legged snakes, and stay out of it if we met one. Idk that it can become pet and worldly famous. LOL.
The thing that I like so much about you, is that you are very good at getting back to people with questions. Many times I’ve asked questions on videos or seen people ask, and they never get a response back. What you are doing is very good! :)
Thank you! I try to make people feel like they are part of a community. It's not easy and I know it will get very challenging if my channel grows as it's already time consuming. :-)
Funny, there’s one at my local Petco. I asked what kind it was, he said idk, it starts with an m. He was a cute little thing but 🥺🥺 I don’t wanna buy from them
My budding herpetologist son recently adopted a beautiful Northern from a friend who was going away to college; they are truly terrific lizards, and your channel has been our guidebook for making sure she (Lindsay!) is properly cared for. Love your stuff, and doing our best to patronize your sponsors because frankly, if a product is good by you, that's good enough for us. All the best!
Nice, here in Indonesia Merauke, Irian Jaya and classic Gigas anything from west Papua already banned from trade, leaving only Halmahera, Kei and Tanimbar.
Actually they are became endangered in their native habitat because the locals think they are venomous and take every opportunity to kill every BTS they encounter to the point that local government have to step in and ban all BTS trade including captive breed from conservation organization (they are the only organization allowed to export animals, legally). Before that we can get Classic Gigas, Irian Jaya and Merauke from those conservation org. For local pet store we don't collect them from the wild. They breed themselves or buy from conservation org. Or they will be reported to the police by other pet store or conservation org mostly because economic reason.
Hey man, i would really love to pick one of these up, and i heard that you were a good breeder from another youtuber. How much would a baby northern go for?
Thanks! This season my babies will start at 350. Most will likely be a bit higher depending on pattern, colors, etc. check out my website for more details. www.reptilemountain.com/buying
I was wondering if you had any info on dropping tails? My skink got his tail pinched in the door of his tank and promptly dropped it! But just the part that was caught in the door (pretty much just the tip). It is completely healed by now (we kept him on towels while the wound was open) and did NOT put neosporin or anything on it. The healed tip now sheds normally but you can tell it was dropped. Just wondering if you have ever experienced anything like this? I've also heard that they DO NOT drop tails but it is quite obvious that that is what happened to mine? (The wound did not look like it was TORN off, the wound was completely even and did not bleed that much at all.) Please link a video if you have one!! Thank you so much for all the info in your videos !
So i saw that Indonesian and Halmahera skinks are the same and i was wondering if that was true, also are merauke skinks husbandry the same as the first two i mentioned?
I just got a Marauke from an expo in Florida, it was probably wild caught because it was very cheap only $190. I feel awful for supporting that trade 😭 I wish i would have seen your video before hand. How do I quarantine my skink ?
If you have more than one reptile in your home then keep your skink in an entirely separate room with entirely separate tools, dishes, etc. Handle/care for your Merauke LAST for the day. Change clothes and wash hands after working with your quarantined skink. Quarantine should be at least 90 days or more if there are issues. You might want to get a fecal done at a vet to check for internal parasites. Never handle your skink and then handle your other animals while its in quarantine.
That’s interesting since the root word is the same as the root of gigabyte and gigawatts which are pronounced with a hard g like I used. Do you have any links to where it’s pronounced like Jy as you suggest?
Awesome! They reach full size by age 3-4. They will keep growing for life but it won’t be noticeable after year 3-4. Sex i difficult to explain. I have a video on by playlist called BTS 101
You can breed same species from differing locations yes HOWEVER, Northerns and Meraukes are NOT the same species and should NEVER be bred together! 😁👍🏼
I love skinks so much! They look like such little goblins from the front lol I'm partial to northerns, though. I love their chunky little bodies! Question: Do skink moms stay with their babies after they're born? If so, for how long?
They do hang around from what I know. My females are quite defensive of their babies actually. SaltNLight tried to bite me when I tried taking her babies out.
Yeah. Amazing what supply and demand does to a market. Most Meraukes are quite 450 but more in the 300-400 range. The Australian animals are the ones a but more expensive. But in Australia they are cheaper too. Lol.
Havent seen Merauke in the market for a while. Only Halmahera (cheapest since they were captive breed everywhere) Kei and Tanimbar (both are more expensive).
@@ReptileMountainTV when i was moving her into her inclosure she jumped out of my hands about 3 feet or less onto my carpeted floor landing on her back. Shes Eating fine and I don’t see any bumps but I’m just worried :(
I asked in another message. You said when they are babies you put them on paper it is only older when you use loose substrate. At what age can they make the leap to loose substrate from babies
i have a pair of breeding merauke. she gave birth to a clutch of twelve early august of this year.
Congrats! I'm glad to hear more breeders are out there now! Keep it up.
So nice to hear
Are you selling?
I have a meruake blue tongue I love him!

Where do you see that price? Even though they're less common and more expensive online or in expos, they are not that expensive!
Im from Indonesia sooo MERAUKE BTS FOR LIFE!!!!!btw love your way of saying merauke😂😂😂

@@GadsdenVOL he literally answers that question in the video. Watch 7:45 onward again.
Blue Tongues are such eye catchers. I love em! Thank you for the informative comparison between the Northern and Merauke :)

Thats fantastic to hear. What’s your sons name?
"Opinion is not fact."
There needs to be more people who acknowledge this.
Many people has successfully breed indonesian blue tongue skinks in indonesia
Fully agree! The US is a whole different ball game.
I'm getting a Merauke Skink soon, thank you for this informative video!
I know I've been busy moving, but how did I miss this episode?!
Australian BTS all day long!
I love reptiles my parents dont I see a captive breed 5month old northern for $190 and I think steal my parents think NOPE thats overpriced
Yeah its hard sometimes. Value is a difficult thing to convince.
DARI SABANG SAMPE MEEEEROKE
I like it when you say Merauke is meh-rau-kay ahahaha it's okay bro I appreciate it! Greetings from indonesia 🤟
Cheers!
Marauke Indonesia👍
Okay creepy because I randomly found this after buying a skink and I’m from Worcester ma
Wicked!
In Germany it is impossible to find a Northern breeder, you will only find Indonesian breeders.
Thats a bummer. Northerns are so fun.
Nice, here in Indonesia Merauke, Irian Jaya and classic Gigas anything from west Papua already banned from trade, leaving only Halmahera, Kei and Tanimbar.

So what are dofferences between a halmahara and classic indy? I thot they were the same.....
Same species, yes but different patterning and some very slight husbandry differences based on them being considered different “locality types.”
TC - do you have care sheets on the halmaharas and the classic indos? If not, who do recommend I learn from?
Great video bro
God bless you

You can give me a BLUE tongue skink I live in Brazil Pindoretama I really like lizards and other reptiles
Very informative video, thank you so much!
I’ve had my Meruake for about 3 months, I’m still trying to have more positive interactions with it just to make handling less stressful.
Good work. It takes time but persistence works!
Me too I gave her 2 weeks to settle in just hand feeding and shes finally comfortable with a few minutes of handling now. Baby steps
How about taking your m. Bluetongue immediately to vet
So i saw that Indonesian and Halmahera skinks are the same and i was wondering if that was true, also are merauke skinks husbandry the same as the first two i mentioned?
I just love how comprehensive this is...

I think they both have beautiful patterns
I canr tell if minw is halmahara or merakue its on mu channel
Please i would like so much one
Dude....are you from Ma? I just my first Northern and my band played the downstairs Palladium in Worcester in December hahaha

wait if you have a axanthic halamara does that mean its captive breed.
No. They are not uncommon in the wild and many have been born from wild mothers.
Is western Blue tongue skink care the same as eastern and northern???
No, Westerns need it dry
Thank you so much for your comprehensive videos! It really clears things up when it comes to care! :)
I'm so glad to hear that :-)
Thanks for this video. Very informative.
