Well, have I really just heard they picked Scholes over Pirlo?! This just shows me again how British (and French) people lost the reality when it comes to their great football players (who weren’t that much obviously).
Seb needs to really work on the way he handles the guests and questions...especially the body language and reactions to the comments. He tries to be funny and make a point but most of the time it gets awkward and might annoy the others. Dan does a very good job at that.
Rice is the obvious better fit. Needed for the midfield to help stabilize the midfield To decide on Pirlo, Scholes and Xavi I need to know the formation being used. Xavi is better going forward. Scholes better playing across the midfield as a progressive passer. Pirlo if you need a deep-lying playmaker. That being said, Scholes is the most flexible of the lot.
Xavi is better going forward than Scholes? Based on what? In the Barcelona troika, Iniesta was usually the most advanced of the three, linking up with Pedro, Villa, and of course, Messi. Xavi was deeper. His goals and assists rate is just not demonstrative of his attacking prowess, so to speak.
when you're NOT looking at Goals and Assists, scholes was the clock that made 2006-2013 united tick. if you decide to look at Goals and Assists too, Scholes > Xavi and Pirlo

Its hard to drop Scholes in this scenario because Pirlo and Xavi are a bit similar in their style of controlling the game. And Scholes is more versatile and doesn't shy away from doing the dirty job. So it's wiser to go with the duo of Xavi and Scholes or Pirlo and Scholes.

Penalties. Tap ins. Ghosting. Diving. Long ago, the four lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Irish attacked. Only Penaldo, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when his team needed him most, he vanished.
I think Scholes is so underrated. Am not sure if Xavi was better than Scholes. Scholes was good at everything. Imagine Scholes playing alongside Iniesta and Messi...!
even xavi admitted that scholes was better (even if I dont think xavi or scholes were the best of that generation) "In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen - the most complete - is Scholes," said Xavi. "He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn't give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."

Depends on who else is in midfield as to who I start between Xavi and Scholes. Scholes more versatile player but Xavi better at what you'd want in middy. No matter, I drop Pirlo of the three.
Start Xavi because he's simply the best, bench Scholes because he's more versatile than Pirlo. Drop Pirlo, although he's still one of the best midfielders of the past 20 years.
You start Scholes, bench Pirlo, and start Xavi. Xavi needs his teammates to be more on his wavelength than the other two in order to succeed. Scholes and Pirlo were virtuoso orhcestrators who succeeded with several set-ups and systems. In a game, you get Pirlo on in the last quarter of an hour for set pieces but let Scholes set the tempo from the start and make the difference in the attacking third. And if he gets a yellow, you get Pirlo on sooner.
Looking forward to people claiming Xavi is better than Scholes because he beat him in Champions League finals when Xavi was in his prime and Scholes was at an age at which Xavi would later be playing in the Middle East. All 3 were incredible players. They played in different leagues, for vastly different countries, peaked at different times. There isn't really a right or wrong for these three.
@Wdz One oh yes, he was on the bench for the all-conquering England team. Proof that he was the problem, not the managers, came when England won all of those trophies without him. That certainly vindicated the managers involved, no doubt there. Which big United games was he benched for? I'm talking before he was past his prime, obviously.
Two things came to mind: 1. Players reach their "prime era" differently, so age isn't the ONLY factor when comparing achievements. The two beasts of WCs, Klose & R9 are good examples, R9 peaks in his relatively young age, while Klose was in his 30s. 2. Xavi (and Iniesta) loved Barca too much, they put a highest standard even for themselves when playing with the badge. Their 75% maybe good enough to play in highest level in Barca, but they decided to move, in hope for regeneration (sadly the Barca board was full of idiots). The fact that scholes still playing in MU at which in the same age Xavi moved to middle East isn't a prove he is better in terms of longevity.
Scholes only became this world beater of a player since he retired 😂 He was moved out of position to accommodate better players for England too, Pirlo and Xavi were a different level to him
I don’t think Declan Rice would have had the same development had he come to United. He’s kicked in from last season and is looking more well rounded. United current state would have stalled him.

And Micheal platini was better than all of them that's for sure PS: never forget no one controls the game better than xavi no one ever did that
Scholes is xavi, iniesta, pirlo, and lampard in one player. He scores, assists, scores headers, running late into boxes, long passing game, one touch passing, he played deep, he played box to box, behind the striker, did it all. Some people see xavi and pirlo career with rose tinted glass, xavi was about to be sold and didn’t even start before pep. Pirlo was the same, Brescia, inter Milan, until ancelotti had that Christmas tree and gatusso. As a 10, pirlo wasn’t good enough, he wandered too deep and had no goal threat. Scholes been on his game since 97.
If Scholes is xaviesta-pirlo-lampard in one player, why tf England NT never did anything in his era? Overrated. Rice is the obvious better fit. Needed for the midfield to help stabilize the midfield
To decide on Pirlo, Scholes and Xavi I need to know the formation being used. Xavi is better going forward. Scholes better playing across the midfield as a progressive passer. Pirlo if you need a deep-lying playmaker. That being said, Scholes is the most flexible of the lot.
Formation 3 1 6
Xavi is better going forward than Scholes? Based on what? In the Barcelona troika, Iniesta was usually the most advanced of the three, linking up with Pedro, Villa, and of course, Messi. Xavi was deeper. His goals and assists rate is just not demonstrative of his attacking prowess, so to speak.

Its hard to drop Scholes in this scenario because Pirlo and Xavi are a bit similar in their style of controlling the game. And Scholes is more versatile and doesn't shy away from doing the dirty job.

I think Scholes is so underrated. Am not sure if Xavi was better than Scholes. Scholes was good at everything. Imagine Scholes playing alongside Iniesta and Messi...!
even xavi admitted that scholes was better (even if I dont think xavi or scholes were the best of that generation)
"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen - the most complete - is Scholes," said Xavi.
"He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn't give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."
Drop Xavi and Pirlo. Start Scholes and don't bother with a bench 👊
Xavi n Pirlo plays the exact same role, but I would say Xavi is slightly better. Scholesy however could go defensive. So the guys were somehow all right.
Xavi cause he’s better, Scholes to mix it up if needed.
Exact same role? Pirlo played considerably deeper than xavi.
If you could reverse the age 1 player on each team by 10 years, who would you pick? Barca, Real M, Man City, and New Castle

Penaited
Xavi is better than him in all aspects, forget prime tell me what he is better at doing than Xavi expect long pass in which Xavi has too
Two things came to mind:

PS: never forget no one controls the game better than xavi no one ever did that
Scholes is xavi, iniesta, pirlo, and lampard in one player.
Scholes wasnt better than any of the players you listed
If Scholes is xaviesta-pirlo-lampard in one player, why tf England NT never did anything in his era? Overrated. He can't dictate the tempo like Xavi did with "La Pausa", he isn't a magnificent free kick taker like Pirlo, He isn't as prolific midfielder like Lampard, the guy can't even do a proper tackles 🤣
Scholes ball retention is 1% of iniesta's

If Scholes were all those combined he would have been the guy to lead England to winning something. Xavi, Pirlo, and Iniesta all did it. They were the key player in tournaments. Unlike Scholes and the rest of that overrated garbage team they called the "Golden Generation." Golden Generation? LOL. I saw the other 3 actually pick up gold in tournaments while Scholes went back home.
