My "rich" buddy who lived up on the hill Dad had 67 Eldo exactly like this one. When he brought it home brand new all us small boys went nuts. It was the first car I'd every seen with blood red leather interior. I remember him making the headlights go up and down. We were jumping up and down with the thrill of this super cool car. Ten years later when he came home with a Seville we didn't bat an eye.
The ‘67 Eldorado is just so stunning I never get tired of looking at it. It doesn’t have a bad angle. You hit the lottery finding this car with such low mileage and the black/red color combination.
I love the Seville. My mom had an ‘84 2-tone burgundy/rose silver one, that Bose system was phenomenal. I was upset when she traded it for an ‘85 Town Car Cartier edition, in which I learned to drive. My folks bought me a new ‘86 Cougar w/5.0 v8 for my 16th bday but I wanted that gorgeous Seville! Funny aside… my dad surprised mother with an ‘87 560SL, but she loved her TC. To my father’s dismay she gave me the keys to the SL and it fast became my daily driver for half of junior and all senior year of HS. I was an obscenely lucky kid, and I’ve been a Mercedes aficionado/driver most of my life now. Still whip my head around at the sight of the bustle-back Caddy, tho… such fond memories! The Seville is handsome and very well styled, and I even have come to like the bustle back. The eldorado by comparison has an overabundance of sculpted style, with deep three dimensional surfacing that gives the car a much more impressive presence, especially when you're looking at one in person. It's amazing how low these 60s eldorados are, while also being wide and long. It's a breathtaking design that manages to include great details like the vents in the front cowl, along with classic and tasteful baroque formal styling while still remaining quite simple and tasteful. If I was going to turn one of the two interiors into living room furniture, I'd definitely take the great interior of the later Seville. They were great interiors. I'd take the eldorado any day of the week, although I'd prefer a 67 DeVille instead...
1967 Coupe de Ville or Fleetwood SIXTY SPECIAL would be preferred by myself as well.. I never warmed up to the controversial 'bustle back' styling in the rear of the car, especially considering how disconnected it appeared to the angular front half of the car. Consider the 1979 Eldorado for reference.
@@MarinCipollina I think it is the side stripe that curves down that clashes with the straight angular sheet metal lines of the bustle back that ruins it for me.
That Eldorado is one of my two favorite Cadillac designs. Both cars are in amazing condition and were quite indicative of the contemporary luxury car market at their introduction. And that red leather interior -- just WOW!
That's one of the finest designs I've ever seen - inside and out. It might have gone to the top of my most desired collectable cars. I wish I had made the same life choices as Adam! His fleet is one of the finest in the world at this stage.
I really like the first Seville, the bustleback on the second generation never did it for me. The 67 Eldorado is one of the most beautiful American cars made, to my eye.
The good old days when you ordered a car with the options you wanted, not the "packages" of today. In Germany until not that long ago you could order a Benz any way you wanted. I mean: Front Power Windows or Rear Manual... or Power Rear and Front Manual... or 1 power and 3 manual... that's gone now, but gotta give the Krauts credit for that.
@@johnfrakes4746 I would have, if I were on the marketing or design group! I think there maybe was a reason that power rear windows posed a problem in the first-year design.....but I cannot immediately think of why. I mean, I think the Toronado offered power rear windows without a problem.....
I know that it wasn’t in the same class as the Eldorado, but the 1967 Calais, as well as its predecessor the 62 Series, had crank windows with power optional. Same thing with power seats. In 1968, power windows became standard on all Cadillac models. Another bit of trivia - you could get power front windows on a 1954 Chevrolet, but the rear windows were manual. The seville really deserves a H.O. 350 cid engine. It does have a nice interior. That 1967 Eldorado would be better with a light grey interior. Just my two cents.
Alway a fan of the 1967-70 Eldorado. My favorite year of that era is the 1968. I also like the 1979-85 Eldorado which seemed like a modernized version of the classic 1967-70 model. BTW, my mom bought a ‘70 Mark III in 1970. She test drove an Eldorado and went with the Continental.
The Seville looks like a car that was rear-ended already. The inside is definitely better than the outside. You just have to shield your eyes when you get out of it.
Though not really in this class...we had 1991 5th avenue we picked up in 2006 at 18,000 miles and loved those button tufted velour gold seats...smooth and quiet and 27 MPG from Reno to Glenwood Springs with the roomy trunk stuffed and rear air shocks keeping us level!... We kinda miss it!
I had an 84 in dark Navy Blue inside and a creamy blue outside two tone dark Navy below the center lateral line. Getting in the car EVERY time I reveled in my success achieving the moo-la to buy her cash the diamond button down never failed to impress, the dash meant business right down to the amber climate control temperature display. Sold a ware house full of aluminium siding to get her. Love at first sight. Great viddy's you have style my friend keep 'em coming. Both cars are beautiful. I never liked the way the 1967 Eldorado rode though. It needed longer springs. A more floaty ride, in my opinion. The 1967 was more of a performance luxury car at that point in time. I love everything about the 1984 SeVille except the underpowered 4.1 engine. Out West, that probably wasn't an issue since the land is so flat East of the Rockies but, we have some very steep hills on our highways in the Northeast and in order to maintain 75 MPH on some of them requires that you hold the pedal to the floor. You then have to listen to the engine drone after the transmission changes to the next lowest gear. Sometimes, it will even go into second gear if the hill is steep enough.
I had a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, I've had a number of 70's 80's 90s, and an 07 DTS, the Eldorado hands down over the 4100 junk. I had to replace it in a 83 Coupe Deville... I owned, I have an 88 Brougham now...
Totally different markets and time...but the Dodge and Plymouth Neons had electric front power windows and manual crank windows for the rear. Overall, a beautiful but my preference would be to go with a 68 or 69 since the cowl was updated to hide the wipers giving a cleaner look. I do like the crease pants analogy....I could see Roger Sterling from Mad Men driving this car.
My humble opinion is, in a few years time the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado and the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado will be held in the same high regard as the 1932 Deusenberg J is today. Based on body design only. Such is my wounder of the two fore mentioned vehicles. Though the two cars I would love to own, are the 1969 Imperial LeBaron and my favorite of all cars, the 1960 Imperial LeBaron Southhampton or 4 door hardtop. I could write 10 paragraphs on why I have chosen the 60 ILB. But don't want to bore everyone. Adam I also think along with Steve Magnante both you guys are thee most knowledgeable, ardent Preservationist of car history on YT. As usual thanks again for another great and informative video.
Another accurate and thoughtful video. My family had a 68 El Dorado and the car design is beautiful inside and out. Also accurate is that the inside materials were generally not impressive. Adam’s interior is unusual; Ours before even 10 years had some plastics that became sticky and not crisp looking. But that, the squirrelly handling at high speeds, and the spaghetti of vacuum hoses are small prices to pay for this simply striking car! Thanks for the great content Adam.
Eldorado wheel arches were actually always squared -in all the following generations as well, and the Sevilles were always rounded arches -on up to 02' for the Eldo and 05 for the Seville -something I happened to notice looking at my old Caddy photos from that time period. I would maintain you should still consider procuring a 79/80 350/368ci powered Eldorado sometime- would make a great comparison car with this combo you just did. When you do sell that Cimarron -probably by next week after your leg tires of kicking yourself -you can then wisely recycle that $$$$ 🙂🙂 Waiting for that video to drop BTW -Tony did an awesome job covering that.....
My uncle had one of those Seville it was either an 80 or 81 and it had the V8/ 6/4 in it. He had this computer chip installed in it and he said it took away the problem with it shifting up-and-down from 2 to 4-cylinder to 6 cylinder and back and forth? He usually keeps his cars quite a long time that one he didn't keep too long? So I guess he was not real happy with it.
I like both, and would likely prefer the Seville as a daily, just for its ride comfort and luxurious interior. The Eldorado is arguably the most beautiful classic Cadillac, although I confess I am very fond of my 2018 Cadillac CTS-V. Initially, I confess I did not particularly care for the rear end of the 1980-85 Seville, but it has grown on me.
I''m sure the vast majority of '67 Eldorado's rarely had rear seat passengers so that's the reason for the manual windows in the back - probably wasn't an issue for most of the owners and a fairly "safe" and smart cost cutting measure by Cadillac.
Another great and informative video. I like both cars as I have been a Cadillac fan for years; I even had a '92 Brougham. With the Seville I was not a fan of the bustle back at first. But after what Cadillac did to the model in '86 and the Lincoln Continental I started to like the bustle back Seville. That's a beautiful '84 one you have. I must say I Miss colored interiors in cars.
A Cadillac makes us feel a bit special when we go for a ride. Unlike a Benz, a BMW or other luxury cars it's easy to spot these and most other Cadillacs three cars away in traffic. Cadillacs do not ever appear obsolete.
That was nice. As far as which one to have, it's the 67 - it's just awesome looking. The disappointing ride - well, I know everybody has to keep things original for some reason, but when original sucks, I'd find a way to upgrade the rear suspension on one. Hot rodders did it all the time with the old coupes and stuff.

Hi Adam from Sydney , Australia .Selecting a "winner" from these two is a very tough call , as they are both very nice cars. I drive 2 Cadillacs a pair of big rear wheel drive '70's Fleetwood's , a '72 & a '74. Some 33 years ago with a post-tax mid-year bonus I had cash to buy another car. An older mate Frank that was a car dealer, repairer and parts supplier plus wrecker on the border of Bankstown & Punchbowl in western Sydney called me and said Greg I have a Perfect Four for you here at the moment. All were one owner cars all RHD all Cadillacs, a blue '68 Eldo grey/blue leather, a'79 rear wheel drive Seville Elegante in a custom order color & with a padded not painted vinyl top in pale blue with a deep metallic blue paint, and TWO 1980 Seville's one a silver and black Elegante with a 350ci V8 petrol and the other a dark Bronze metallic with a red leather interior & 368 ci/6 litre de-bored big block (like the 68's 7.8 litre)/ I drove them all back to back over several hours. I had loved the '67 to '70 Eldos as a kid when new , but I had not driven one , and was a little shocked at the choppy ride, next I drove the 2 x bustle back '80 Seville's, the 350 v8 was a little quicker off the mark, but the big block 368 cube had it in highway overtake & effortless punch. Then last I drove the RWD '79 Seville, the Olds derived 350ci V8 in that was a rocket, serious get up and go as an export spec engine. Out of the 4 cars it was a tough call between the RWD '79 & the FWD '80 with the 368 in it, it just had big block smoothness and didn't really feel like a FWD car, well balanced. Some days went by, and I was deliberating on which one to buy. Then another mate called me and said you know that Lincoln, you have told me about, but I (he) have never seen, well it's for sale (it had an unmistakable registration plate OIL-001 nsw rego) . It was a TOTAL option bar sunroof, '79 Collectors Series Town Car. I bought it immediately and own it to this day in 2023. After driving it, it was a no contest choice against the 4 Cadillacs as the Aussie Ford Homebush, Sydney built IKEA "flat-pack" kit CKD cars where they arrive as parts to assemble here as right hand-drive cars do not have the American plastic dash modules & panel fronts , NO , they have Aussie made aluminium ones with actual real Mahogany wood with matchwood inlay as the US LHD asymmetric dash modules will not swap to RHD guise. All of the 4 Caddy's Frank had were private imports converted to RHD using cut and joined US version dashboards made of plastic. Whereas the Ford Homebush Aust ' built Lincoln had a way classier quality to it that the others were sorely lacking, good as they were.
Virtually nothing comes close to the amazing personal luxury cars of the late 60's and early 70's. And the 1967 Eldo is at the top of that bunch. Gorgeous.
No contest. I'd take any 60s GM car over an 80s equivalent. I think there were some Peugots that had crank front windows and power rear windows, which makes sense - remote operation for the ones you can't reach while you're driving.
I commend Cadillac for the bold bustle-back for 1980. I also appreciate Adam's thorough comparison here, but this isn't really a competition or battle....as we all surely realize. Any of us would buy the '67 and store in a garage for shows and great weather, and the Seville would be a semi-daily driver you could still be proud of.
I've always loved both of these cars. Nice to see some kudo's directed the Seville's way for its smooth and quiet ride. GM engineers really worked hard on that during that time. That HT4100 engine really lets it down though.
The Eldorado was a beauty, but I preferred the Mark III. I’ve always thought these model Seville’s were head turners. I recall seeing footage of Princess Diana arriving at an event and exiting the rear of a 1980’s Seville. She handled it with style and elegance, just like the car she was a passenger in.
While I won't speak on the technology between these two automobiles, the 1967, hands down is my favorite between the two. The perfect personal luxury automobile of that time period.

Was watching you pass that Prius in the 1967 and chuckling a bit. I feel you could almost put that car in the trunk. In a collision, you might have to scrape the Prius off the grille. So much has changed in the last 50+ years. I miss the elegant highway cruisers but not the 8.5MPG I used to get with my 1974 Deville.

I've been thinking about your price comparison of the Eldorado to equivalent 60,000 today. While I don't doubt your dollar& time calculations, I'd have to say that be closer to $90,000 in today's auto market. I say that because nowadays, there are a lot of $60,000 cars out there and even pickup trucks. But back in the day, and I remember being a ten-year-old boy, this Eldorado was more expensive than any other American car.. most seem to be delivered at around $9,000 then. Your standard Cadillacs and Lincoln's were in the $7000 range ( I'm talking about how the cars were delivered with all the options normally ordered ) this Eldorado was a jaw-dropper and absolute head-turner and green-envy inducer. I can't think of another car since they could equal the spectacle it was. Your 80's Seville was more of a run-of-the-mill luxury car.. nice but eclipsed in prestige by Mercedes S class at double its price. Thanks again though for posting and the great trip down memory lane.
You can't beat the looks of the '67 Eldo! It's best without the vinyl top and in black. I hear those rear side windows don't roll down, but roll back into the sailplane.
Thank you for sharing the features and the ways Cadillac changed and improved and in some ways regressed. Both cars are nice indeed. That Seville is nicely loaded. That Seville influenced the look of the 1992-1997 Cadillac Seville. The lineage of the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado influenced many Cadillacs after it well into today. Thank you Adam.
I also can see some elements of the 1980 Seville in the 1992 Seville, but the stiletto styling of the 1992 version was much better executed in my opinion, and much less polarizing.
Love the bright red interior on the 67, timeless design that will always look great. But, I'm sure many owners were upset by the ride/noise. Not a fan of the bustleback, love the original 76 design. Yeah, the faux wood color is cheesy, but it actually looks pretty good paired with that light chocolate colored interior. Each vehicle has its strong points. Caddy did do a good job with the Seville interior, great seats and a rich looking handsome interior.
Always loved the 1984 Eldorado Touring Coupe, great brakes, great suspension and I thought it looked really cool. Alas, the HT4100 engine--imagine if they kept the 350 that was in the 79/80? Never a fan of that bustle back but to ,me at the time, I was more into the Trans Am as any kid would be. I wondered why the 84/85 Touring Coupes didn't have the 359 since it was the performance model. I think the 80's were the lost decade for Caddy personally, Caddy was rolling the 4100 with 125 ponies while Buick was way over a 100 ponies higher with the 3.8 SFI turbo/intercooled V6. You should find people at Caddy at the time and ask them about their mood. By 84, things were looking up ad you had Monte Carlo SS, the Buick Gran National, Corvette was attempting a comeback and even the Camaro was shedding the malaise era. Never understood Caddy though, the Lincoln LSC was pretty cool and had the 302 in it so the race was over. I was a kid but I did like the touring coupe, thought it was cool (Eagle GTs on a Caccy?) Now to get your mitts on a CTS-V Wagon with a stick--loved the idea and they kicked butt. Never know, now that Tesla sets the bar for electrics, Caddy might roll out a large bardge because they can and throw out a new electric Eldo--electrics do allow for style now so...Thanks for the ride along, I can smell the 60's in that Eldo...
I agree the 80s had some poorly conceived Cadillacs. They got too involved in their own futuristic gimmicks. What people wanted was a Caprice with nicer trim and a 305 or 350 V8.
I bought an XT4 in October 2022 and the sales guy told me that about 75-80% of Cadillac people write a check for their new car. I was concerned that they wouldn't take a personal check although it took me years to save the money. 🤣 I bought a Cadillac because it's one of the very few CUVs that's American made with union labor.
As someone who grew up in the 80's. I have fond memories of the boxy styling of the Seville. But as someone who loves powerful V8s. The Eldorado would be my first choice
Maybe if the Seville was black. The placement of the wreath and crest on the steering wheel gives it a Picasso-esque minotaur impression. Like a cyclops bull. Or a robot henchman from Futurama. ...by then the tail lights were all you could see...
The Eldo is STUNNING with it's jet black exterior and bright red interior. The roll-up rear windows are quirky for sure. If I owned this car I would be tempted to retrofit the rear windows with power actuators and electric window switchgear from the era (chrome paddle style). Probably wouldn't be able to modify the drivers door panel to add two extra switches but I still think power windows in the rear would be better than the roll-up levers. The Seville is gorgeous also. I love the sumptuous brown leather interior. I always liked this era of Seville despite it's controversial rear-end styling or perhaps because of it.
As an air-conditioned car, sourced from Texas, it is likely that even with passengers sitting in the rear seat, that the manual rear windows were rarely, if ever, opened. Even the existing manual crank openers were probably a redundancy. Air-con was the ultimate game changer regarding window usage especially in the Southern USA, and later throughout the US. The two doors have electric lifts, and the driver's window was the one likely most used, as a speculation. Cheers.
I'll take the 67 any day. I've driven and worked on several of the 84 Seville version, which I guess is an 79/80? All I have to say is they are not good cars, but sure made me a ton of $$ as a mechanic. As I recall, that red leather is called Firethorn red, and Chrysler actually used the same leather, by the same supplier, in the same color.
With comfortron, I think it was the Power Servo alone, which controlled heat temperature through the blend door on the firewall. I suspect the heater valve all it does is to open or close coolant flow to the heater core. Awesome cars!

About 40 years ago you could find plenty of 67 Eldorado's in used car lots for under 2k in great shape.

The seville really deserves a H.O. 350 cid engine. It does have a nice interior. That 1967 Eldorado would be better with a light grey interior. Just my two cents.

Alway a fan of the 1967-70 Eldorado. My favorite year of that era is the 1968. I also like the 1979-85 Eldorado which seemed like a modernized version of the classic 1967-70 model. BTW, my mom bought a ‘70 Mark III in 1970. She test drove an Eldorado and went with the Continental.
My fatherinlaw owned two Eldorados , a 70 and a 73 . In 77 he bought a Mark V and stayed with Lincolns for the remainder of his life .
The Seville looks like a car that was rear-ended already. The inside is definitely better than the outside. You just have to shield your eyes when you get out of it.

Though not really in this class...we had 1991 5th avenue we picked up in 2006 at 18,000 miles and loved those button tufted velour gold seats...smooth and quiet and 27 MPG from Reno to Glenwood Springs with the roomy trunk stuffed and rear air shocks keeping us level!... We kinda miss it!
Both are beautiful cars. I would love to have the Seville but upgraded to the later 4.9 engine.

I had an 84 in dark Navy Blue inside and a creamy blue outside two tone dark Navy below the center lateral line. Getting in the car EVERY time I reveled in my success achieving the moo-la to buy her cash the diamond button down never failed to impress, the dash meant business right down to the amber climate control temperature display. Sold a ware house full of aluminium siding to get her. Love at first sight. Great viddy's you have style my friend keep 'em coming. I had a 67 Toronado black on black on black, again, pure love affair. Regards; Jim.
Both cars are beautiful. I never liked the way the 1967 Eldorado rode though. It needed longer springs. A more floaty ride, in my opinion. The 1967 was more of a performance luxury car at that point in time. I love everything about the 1984 SeVille except the underpowered 4.1 engine. Out West, that probably wasn't an issue since the land is so flat East of the Rockies but, we have some very steep hills on our highways in the Northeast and in order to maintain 75 MPH on some of them requires that you hold the pedal to the floor. You then have to listen to the engine drone after the transmission changes to the next lowest gear. Sometimes, it will even go into second gear if the hill is steep enough.
Always loved the soft rumble of Cadillacs of the 60s.
I like the Seville. It reminds me of the eighties. I also like it's luxurious styling and amenities.

Only downside is miles per gallon but the 67 is my go to. It's easy to service and not manufactured to fail like today's cars
I had a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, I've had a number of 70's 80's 90s, and an 07 DTS, the Eldorado hands down over the 4100 junk. I had to replace it in a 83 Coupe Deville... I owned, I have an 88 Brougham now...
Totally different markets and time...but the Dodge and Plymouth Neons had electric front power windows and manual crank windows for the rear. Overall, a beautiful but my preference would be to go with a 68 or 69 since the cowl was updated to hide the wipers giving a cleaner look. I do like the crease pants analogy....I could see Roger Sterling from Mad Men driving this car.

My humble opinion is, in a few years time the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado and the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado will be held in the same high regard as the 1932 Deusenberg J is today. Based on body design only. Such is my wounder of the two fore mentioned vehicles. Though the two cars I would love to own, are the 1969 Imperial LeBaron and my favorite of all cars, the 1960 Imperial LeBaron Southhampton or 4 door hardtop. I could write 10 paragraphs on why I have chosen the 60 ILB. But don't want to bore everyone. Adam I also think along with Steve Magnante both you guys are thee most knowledgeable, ardent Preservationist of car history on YT. As usual thanks again for another great and informative video.

That HT4100 - - - imagine spending $60K plus for that motor. Cadillac lost a lot of customers in the early 80s, then the 4-6-8, the the NorthStar
Another accurate and thoughtful video. My family had a 68 El Dorado and the car design is beautiful inside and out. Also accurate is that the inside materials were generally not impressive. Adam’s interior is unusual; Ours before even 10 years had some plastics that became sticky and not crisp looking. But that, the squirrelly handling at high speeds, and the spaghetti of vacuum hoses are small prices to pay for this simply striking car! Thanks for the great content Adam.
Eldorado wheel arches were actually always squared -in all the following generations as well, and the Sevilles were always rounded arches -on up to 02' for the Eldo and 05 for the Seville -something I happened to notice looking at my old Caddy photos from that time period. I would maintain you should still consider procuring a 79/80 350/368ci powered Eldorado sometime- would make a great comparison car with this combo you just did. When you do sell that Cimarron -probably by next week after your leg tires of kicking yourself -you can then wisely recycle that $$$$ 🙂🙂 Waiting for that video to drop BTW -Tony did an awesome job covering that.....
My uncle had one of those Seville it was either an 80 or 81 and it had the V8/ 6/4 in it. He had this computer chip installed in it and he said it took away the problem with it shifting up-and-down from 2 to 4-cylinder to 6 cylinder and back and forth? He usually keeps his cars quite a long time that one he didn't keep too long? So I guess he was not real happy with it.

I like both, and would likely prefer the Seville as a daily, just for its ride comfort and luxurious interior. The Eldorado is arguably the most beautiful classic Cadillac, although I confess I am very fond of my 2018 Cadillac CTS-V. Initially, I confess I did not particularly care for the rear end of the 1980-85 Seville, but it has grown on me.

I''m sure the vast majority of '67 Eldorado's rarely had rear seat passengers so that's the reason for the manual windows in the back - probably wasn't an issue for most of the owners and a fairly "safe" and smart cost cutting measure by Cadillac.
Another great and informative video. I like both cars as I have been a Cadillac fan for years; I even had a '92 Brougham. With the Seville I was not a fan of the bustle back at first. But after what Cadillac did to the model in '86 and the Lincoln Continental I started to like the bustle back Seville. That's a beautiful '84 one you have. I must say I Miss colored interiors in cars.
A Cadillac makes us feel a bit special when we go for a ride. Unlike a Benz, a BMW or other luxury cars it's easy to spot these and most other Cadillacs three cars away in traffic. Cadillacs do not ever appear obsolete.

As far as which one to have, it's the 67 - it's just awesome looking.
The disappointing ride - well, I know everybody has to keep things original for some reason, but when original sucks, I'd find a way to upgrade the rear suspension on one. Hot rodders did it all the time with the old coupes and stuff.

Hi Adam from Sydney , Australia .Selecting a "winner" from these two is a very tough call , as they are both very nice cars. I drive 2 Cadillacs a pair of big rear wheel drive '70's Fleetwood's , a '72 & a '74. Some 33 years ago with a post-tax mid-year bonus I had cash to buy another car. An older mate Frank that was a car dealer, repairer and parts supplier plus wrecker on the border of Bankstown & Punchbowl in western Sydney called me and said Greg I have a Perfect Four for you here at the moment. All were one owner cars all RHD all Cadillacs, a blue '68 Eldo grey/blue leather, a'79 rear wheel drive Seville Elegante in a custom order color & with a padded not painted vinyl top in pale blue with a deep metallic blue paint, and TWO 1980 Seville's one a silver and black Elegante with a 350ci V8 petrol and the other a dark Bronze metallic with a red leather interior & 368 ci/6 litre de-bored big block (like the 68's 7.8 litre)/ I drove them all back to back over several hours. I had loved the '67 to '70 Eldos as a kid when new , but I had not driven one , and was a little shocked at the choppy ride, next I drove the 2 x bustle back '80 Seville's, the 350 v8 was a little quicker off the mark, but the big block 368 cube had it in highway overtake & effortless punch. Then last I drove the RWD '79 Seville, the Olds derived 350ci V8 in that was a rocket, serious get up and go as an export spec engine. Out of the 4 cars it was a tough call between the RWD '79 & the FWD '80 with the 368 in it, it just had big block smoothness and didn't really feel like a FWD car, well balanced.
Some days went by, and I was deliberating on which one to buy. Then another mate called me and said you know that Lincoln, you have told me about, but I (he) have never seen, well it's for sale (it had an unmistakable registration plate OIL-001 nsw rego) . It was a TOTAL option bar sunroof, '79 Collectors Series Town Car. I bought it immediately and own it to this day in 2023. After driving it, it was a no contest choice against the 4 Cadillacs as the Aussie Ford Homebush, Sydney built IKEA "flat-pack" kit CKD cars where they arrive as parts to assemble here as right hand-drive cars do not have the American plastic dash modules & panel fronts , NO , they have Aussie made aluminium ones with actual real Mahogany wood with matchwood inlay as the US LHD asymmetric dash modules will not swap to RHD guise. All of the 4 Caddy's Frank had were private imports converted to RHD using cut and joined US version dashboards made of plastic. Whereas the Ford Homebush Aust ' built Lincoln had a way classier quality to it that the others were sorely lacking, good as they were.
Virtually nothing comes close to the amazing personal luxury cars of the late 60's and early 70's. And the 1967 Eldo is at the top of that bunch. Gorgeous.

I think there were some Peugots that had crank front windows and power rear windows, which makes sense - remote operation for the ones you can't reach while you're driving.

I also appreciate Adam's thorough comparison here, but this isn't really a competition or battle....as we all surely realize.
Any of us would buy the '67 and store in a garage for shows and great weather, and the Seville would be a semi-daily driver you could still be proud of.
I've always loved both of these cars. Nice to see some kudo's directed the Seville's way for its smooth and quiet ride. GM engineers really worked hard on that during that time. That HT4100 engine really lets it down though.
The Eldorado was a beauty, but I preferred the Mark III. I’ve always thought these model Seville’s were head turners. I recall seeing footage of Princess Diana arriving at an event and exiting the rear of a 1980’s Seville. She handled it with style and elegance, just like the car she was a passenger in.
Perhaps a comparison with a 1979 Eldorado with the same colour combination would have been fantastic 👍🏼🏁
While I won't speak on the technology between these two automobiles, the 1967, hands down is my favorite between the two. The perfect personal luxury automobile of that time period.

Was watching you pass that Prius in the 1967 and chuckling a bit. I feel you could almost put that car in the trunk. In a collision, you might have to scrape the Prius off the grille. So much has changed in the last 50+ years. I miss the elegant highway cruisers but not the 8.5MPG I used to get with my 1974 Deville.

I was very surprised, as a boy back in 1967 how the Eldorado rode so rough and not very smooth. Our '66 T-Bird was silky smooth by comparison. -Greg in Californis
I've been thinking about your price comparison of the Eldorado to equivalent 60,000 today. While I don't doubt your dollar& time calculations, I'd have to say that be closer to $90,000 in today's auto market. I say that because nowadays, there are a lot of $60,000 cars out there and even pickup trucks. But back in the day, and I remember being a ten-year-old boy, this Eldorado was more expensive than any other American car.. most seem to be delivered at around $9,000 then. Your standard Cadillacs and Lincoln's were in the $7000 range ( I'm talking about how the cars were delivered with all the options normally ordered ) this Eldorado was a jaw-dropper and absolute head-turner and green-envy inducer. I can't think of another car since they could equal the spectacle it was. Your 80's Seville was more of a run-of-the-mill luxury car.. nice but eclipsed in prestige by Mercedes S class at double its price. Thanks again though for posting and the great trip down memory lane.

Thank you for sharing the features and the ways Cadillac changed and improved and in some ways regressed. Both cars are nice indeed. That Seville is nicely loaded. That Seville influenced the look of the 1992-1997 Cadillac Seville. The lineage of the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado influenced many Cadillacs after it well into today. Thank you Adam.
I also can see some elements of the 1980 Seville in the 1992 Seville, but the stiletto styling of the 1992 version was much better executed in my opinion, and much less polarizing.

Love the bright red interior on the 67, timeless design that will always look great. But, I'm sure many owners were upset by the ride/noise. Not a fan of the bustleback, love the original 76 design. Yeah, the faux wood color is cheesy, but it actually looks pretty good paired with that light chocolate colored interior. Each vehicle has its strong points. Caddy did do a good job with the Seville interior, great seats and a rich looking handsome interior.
The bustleback's beauty is an acquired taste, and not to mine! It looks like it's been rear-ended. And it didn't get a viewing in this video :(
Always loved the 1984 Eldorado Touring Coupe, great brakes, great suspension and I thought it looked really cool. Alas, the HT4100 engine--imagine if they kept the 350 that was in the 79/80? Never a fan of that bustle back but to ,me at the time, I was more into the Trans Am as any kid would be. I wondered why the 84/85 Touring Coupes didn't have the 359 since it was the performance model. I think the 80's were the lost decade for Caddy personally, Caddy was rolling the 4100 with 125 ponies while Buick was way over a 100 ponies higher with the 3.8 SFI turbo/intercooled V6. You should find people at Caddy at the time and ask them about their mood. By 84, things were looking up ad you had Monte Carlo SS, the Buick Gran National, Corvette was attempting a comeback and even the Camaro was shedding the malaise era. Never understood Caddy though, the Lincoln LSC was pretty cool and had the 302 in it so the race was over. I was a kid but I did like the touring coupe, thought it was cool (Eagle GTs on a Caccy?) Now to get your mitts on a CTS-V Wagon with a stick--loved the idea and they kicked butt. Never know, now that Tesla sets the bar for electrics, Caddy might roll out a large bardge because they can and throw out a new electric Eldo--electrics do allow for style now so...Thanks for the ride along, I can smell the 60's in that Eldo...
I agree the 80s had some poorly conceived Cadillacs. They got too involved in their own futuristic gimmicks. What people wanted was a Caprice with nicer trim and a 305 or 350 V8.
I bought an XT4 in October 2022 and the sales guy told me that about 75-80% of Cadillac people write a check for their new car. I was concerned that they wouldn't take a personal check although it took me years to save the money. 🤣 I bought a Cadillac because it's one of the very few CUVs that's American made with union labor.
I am half way through the video and already I know which car I prefer. It's the 1967 Eldo. Hands down.
As someone who grew up in the 80's. I have fond memories of the boxy styling of the Seville. But as someone who loves powerful V8s. The Eldorado would be my first choice

The Eldo is STUNNING with it's jet black exterior and bright red interior. The roll-up rear windows are quirky for sure. If I owned this car I would be tempted to retrofit the rear windows with power actuators and electric window switchgear from the era (chrome paddle style). Probably wouldn't be able to modify the drivers door panel to add two extra switches but I still think power windows in the rear would be better than the roll-up levers.
The Seville is gorgeous also. I love the sumptuous brown leather interior. I always liked this era of Seville despite it's controversial rear-end styling or perhaps because of it.
As an air-conditioned car, sourced from Texas, it is likely that even with passengers sitting in the rear seat, that the manual rear windows were rarely, if ever, opened. Even the existing manual crank openers were probably a redundancy. Air-con was the ultimate game changer regarding window usage especially in the Southern USA, and later throughout the US. The two doors have electric lifts, and the driver's window was the one likely most used, as a speculation. Cheers.

I'll take the 67 any day. I've driven and worked on several of the 84 Seville version, which I guess is an 79/80? All I have to say is they are not good cars, but sure made me a ton of $$ as a mechanic. As I recall, that red leather is called Firethorn red, and Chrysler actually used the same leather, by the same supplier, in the same color.

With comfortron, I think it was the Power Servo alone, which controlled heat temperature through the blend door on the firewall. I suspect the heater valve all it does is to open or close coolant flow to the heater core. Awesome cars!
Nope. No blend door on these early cars. All proportional to amount of coolant flowing through Heater core.

When you park them together at about " 3:40 " it definitely looks ( from a style perspective ) that the '67 came way AFTER the '84.
