I'm sorry. It's a long story, but I lost my RUclips channel. When I got it back I lost all of my subscribers, almost five thousand of them. So none of them, like you, got any notice about this new video. I'm so glad you found it. Thank you for your support. Dan
You are a crazy musician John! I'm glad you found me. I accidentally erased my RUclips channel a few weeks ago when I erased a Google profile. It was a nightmare. I was able to retrieve my videos but lost all of my subscribers, 4,500 of them. So none of my friends have been notified of my new video. Thank you for you support. You are always too kind. Dan
Hey there. Actually, the scales are also cloth. After sculpting with paper mache I add a "skin" of cloth (old bed sheets as you mentioned) dipped in white glue. I call the process "cloth mache" for lack of a better term. Good luck! Have some fun! Dan
I just want to say thank you for this amazing tutorials. I started doing paper mache and I'm doing it well. The pieces I created are awesome, and its all thanks to you!!! :))
Hello Ally. Thank you for the nice comment! After sculpting with paper mache pieces, I put on a final "skin" of cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue (Elmer's or PVA). There is more information on my blog if you are interested. Just follow the link under the video. Take care Dan
I use polymer clay, like Super-Sculpy or Fimo for teeth and claws. Spikes are just wire, paper and tape. There is much more information on my site and I show many sculptures being made on my blog. Just follow the links under the video. Dan
Wow Christian, I'm very flattered! Yes, this is one of "Dani's dragons". My interpretation after reading the books and watching the TV series. Thank you again. Dan
You have inspired my 2 boys aged 7 and 9 to do a paper mache dragon for their school "family Art" competition!! Thank you for sharing all your fantastic Paper mache art! It's amazing! :)
Hey again, I think it's really an illusion with the camera. It isn't that smooth if you were to see it in person. The one thing that helps is to build tension into the tape. I touch on end of the tape and then pull the tape across. It gets pretty tight that way. Good luck Dan
OMG this is Drogon one of the Dragon of Daenerys Targaryen it was named after her late husband. I remember when she said "Zaldrīzes buzdari iksos daor" meaning A dragon is not a slave. Dan, you are amazing! It's 2:15 am now here in the Philippines and I keep hitting the re-play button.
I show a few dragons being made on my blog. Just follow the link under the video. You can see all the steps there. The white material is cloth (an old bed sheet) dipped in white glue. Thank you for your kind words. Good luck! Dan
i thought the white off - white color combo was awesome, but black & grey was more fantasy - like. either way, awesome job. i cannot praise ur commitment & hard work enough. best original work i've seen on RUclips in a while.
Thank you very much James! You made my day with this comment. I'm in the middle of editing a video right now and was wondering if it was worth all the time and effort. Your remarks make it all worth while. Thanks for watching! Dan

Hi again. I suppose it depends upon where you are. Wire clothes hangers used to be everywhere. Not so much any more. But you can still find hundreds at "thrift" stores. People sell them online too. I bought many there for not much money. Clothes hangers are really nice to work with. But any wire will work. Dan
You are funny! Sorry, I meant hands only in the paper mache paste. Don't put the strips of paper into the paste. With the cloth and glue, you DO put the cloth in the glue and squeeze out the extra with your hands. Good luck! Dan
your cat shows up in so many of your videos, i still love them ALL, you are an amazing person for doing all this, you are so talented, keep on making them
I watched a lot of your videos in the last few hours and cant wait to try out making my own paper mache art but as game of thrones fan i have to admit i love this one most of all the things I watched you building

Love your videos and work! Very inspirational. I was wondering what is the white paper/fabric looking material is that you use to create a smoother surface? If you don't mind sharing
Thank you for the kind words Megan! The final "skin" on my art is cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue (I use Elmer's). It is strong and great for details.
I have an art project to do and I love the black varnish can you please tell me what exactly it is you put on after painting. I love your work please do how to train my dragon toothles!

I absolutely love your videos! I make sculptures myself. I think using the sheets for strength is a very good idea what do you cut it with after it’s dry like on the wings? Do you let it fully dry before cutting in the shapes?
¡Buena suerte!
It's official. I'm addicted to your videos :| Simply amazing. Just one question...on your blog, you said ONLY your hands go in the paste. So when applying the torn bed sheets (for wings, or fins), do you lay them out on your workstation first and apply the paste before draping them over the frame? Or drape the sheet, then apply the paste?
Do you also use taxidermy teeth? What do you use for the spikes? Just wire and tape or are those some kind of taxidermy things, too? Thanks! PS I really love that you take the time to respond to questions on here. The videos are wonderful on their own but I think it's really great that you try to help as much as you can via comments. Please keep posting videos! It's awesome to see your creatures come to life! :D
That was amazing, what was that white fabric you placed over everything to finish up. ?? a sheet or something else. So many details, so intense inspirating. Hats off to you.
Thank you Chris! After sculpting with paper mache pieces I add a "skin" of cloth (old bed sheets I get from second-hand stores) dipped in white glue (I prefer Elmer's Glue All). It is light and strong and allows for detail that is hard to get with just paper. Take care Dan
Im making a Naga mask from WoW and I've been looking at other peoples paper mache. im having problems with frills. How did you do the Frills and webbing for the wings?

Dan
I would love to see an artist like you do Smaug from The Hobbit.
Maybe sometime. That is a great dragon for sure.
I know its kind of rude to ask you to do something like that
The Darkbeast
Not rude at all. I've actually been asked to do that dragon many times. Right now I'm working on another Drogon, from the Game of Thrones (Songs of Ice and Fire books). There are lots of great dragons out there.
Very true, the Horntail from Harry potter would be crazy too
The Darkbeast
Yes, another great one. So many dragons...so little time!
I must have gotten the 16mm then. I got them from that site. 25mm is too big I think.
Dan
Love that cat...looks like she is into it too! Your work is what legends are made of...EPIC!
Brenda Kane
That's a very nice thing to say Brenda! Thank you very much! You are very kind.
Dan
My goodness this is amazing. Your dragon videos are my inspiration for my house decorating! Thank you for sharing!
I got those eyes at glasseyes (dot com). They are in the UK. But I altered the a bit. I wanted some white around the red, so I ground some of the paint off and put white in. I think they were around 20mm.
Dan
Thank you! You should make one. Just a little effort and newspaper and tape.
Give it a try!

I bought many there for not much money. Clothes hangers are really nice to work with. But any wire will work.

I'm a big fan :) and I was hoping you could tell me what you use for the wings please? I think I would like to get into making things like this.
thank you for your quick reply, i think ill need to improve my taping skill then. Btw just placed an order on two of your books, looking forward to making my own dragons in the near future. Keep up the good work.
can you make "How To Train Your Dragon"'s dragons?
But which Dragon there are over many many many many varieties of dragons from the feature films, short films tv series and video games.
Hey Dude!!! AMAZING!!!!!!
Thank you very much!
I absolutely love your videos! I make sculptures myself. I think using the sheets for strength is a very good idea what do you cut it with after it’s dry like on the wings? Do you let it fully dry before cutting in the shapes?
Thanks Leah. I do wait until the cloth dries before trimming. I just use small scissors for that.
